Please call the rectory at to set up an appointment with a Priest. First time parents and godparents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Session. Only when Certificates of Eligibility from godparents are presented, then a date for the baptism can be set. The Baptism Preparation Sessions are held the first Sunday of the month at 12:30 PM in the Upper Church, with registration required. To register, please call the parish secretary during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM). Registration must be made prior to the last Friday of the month. If no registrations are received, a session may not be held. 2 PASTOR'S CORNER phone number. We have reserved a parish bus (a school bus) for the Mass with Pope Francis at the Art Museum on Sunday, September 27, at 4:00 PM. So far, the Archdiocese has not given us any directions. We will probably have to leave Holy Cross around 12:00 Noon, and not get back until 8:00 or 9:00 PM that night. Also, we may have to walk a bit of a distance from where we get off the bus to the Mass site. If you are interested in attending the Papal Mass on our bus, please call the business office ( ) and leave your name and / There is no cost for the bus trip and Mass. We are in real need of more Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to help distribute Holy Communion atthe weekend Masses. You would be scheduled once every three weeks orso. If you are interested in this important parish ministry, please contact me. To honor the memory of a loved one, friend or parishioner, a donation of $150 can be made for sanctuary flowers on the altar and in front of the Blessed Mother's statue. A remembrance will be printed in the bulletin for the donation. 5 Q. Where in the gospels did Jesus speak against Homosexuality? A. The following are the passages in Scripture referring to homosexuality. Genesis 19: The whole passage is too long to quote word for word but it is the story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Briefly, all the men of the town, young and old, seek to abuse sexually the two guests [men] of lot. The inhabitants' crime is twofold: violation of hospitality and forbidden sexual behavior (lev. 18:22 "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; such a thing is an abomination.") Romans 1: "Therefore, God handed them over to degrading passions. Their females exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the males likewise gave up natural relations with females and burned with lust for one another. Males did shameful things with males and thus received in their own persons the due perversity." I Corinthians 6:10: 10. "Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators not idolaters nor adulterers nor boy prostitutes nor sodomites nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God." I I Tim 1:10 "We know that the law is good, provided that one uses it as law, with the understanding that law is meant not for a righteous person but for the lawless and unruly, the godless and sinful, the unholy and profane, those who kill their fathers and mothers, murderers, the unchaste, sodomites, kidnapers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is opposed to sound teaching, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted." Catechism of the Catholic Church 2357: Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared, "Homosexual ACTS are intrinsically disordered." (Congregation of the Faith). "They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved." ' It is technically true that Jesus did not specifically address homosexuality in the gospel accounts. However, He did speak clearly about sexuality in general. Concerning marriage, Jesus stated, "At the beginning the Creator made them male and female." Here Jesus clearly referred to Adam and Eve and affirmed God's intended design for marriage and sexuality. Are we to believe that any and every action is good unless Jesus specifically forbade Jesus did not need to itemize sin, especially when the further revelation contained in the epistles removes all doubt as to homosexuality's sinfulness. it? 6 FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK St. Paul urges us today to live in a manner worthy of our call as Christians. This Saturday begins a month that features the feast days of so many great saints, who show us how to do that. The lives of Saints Maximilian Kolbe, John Vianney, Clare of Assisi, Stephen of Hungary, Jane de Chantal, Rose of Uma, Pius X, Bernard of Clairvaux, Augustine, Monica, Bartholomew, John the Baptist and St. Dominic show and teach us how to live the Gospel. These saints all remind us what happens when we bring ourftve loaves and two fish to Our Lord - just as the apostles did in today's Gospel. Jesus transformed an insignificant offering into a meal celebrated and enjoyed by 5,000 people. We may be tempted to think that our lives are insignificant, but God's love multiplies the good and fashions miracles before our eyes. Earlier this summer, I met with my cousin Chris, and his friend Holly. They are seniors at the University of Montana. Besides doing academically well, they work part-time for the University in welcoming freshmen and helping them adjust to college life. Chris is the president of his fraternity. He administers its activities. One program has all fraternity members doing weekly or monthly community service - volunteer outreach to the poor and needy of the area. I was impressed with these young adults and how they are energetically using the five loaves and two fish of their lives for others. Mother Teresa used to urge people: give God perm ission. In other words, allow Him to work through you. Perhaps, though, we are afraid to do that, or feel we are too busy or just want to keep our faith in church on Sundays. Each of us though, has five loaves and two fish in our lives. May we turn them into a true gift for Our Lord and for those around us.
