BAPTISM POLICY Baptisms are celebrated every Sunday, except for the first Sunday of the month, at 12:00 PM. Please call the rectory at to set up an appointment with a Priest. First time parents and godparents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Session. Only when Certificates of Eligibility from godparents are presented, then a date for the baptism can be set. The Baptism Preparation Sessions are held the first Sunday of the month at 12:00 PM in the Upper Church, with registration required. To register, please call the parish secretary during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM). Registration must be made prior to the last Friday of the month. If no registrations are received, a session may not be held. 2 PASTOR'S CORNER This is it! We now enter the holiest week of the year, remembering Our Lord's passion that atoned for our sins and reconciled us to God. Jesus redeemed us all and gave perfect glory to God through His Paschal (Easter) Mystery: dying, He destroyed our death and rising, He restored our life. Therefore, the Easter Triduum begins with Holy Thursday's Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil Mass, and ends on Easter Sunday night. I encourage you and your families to participate in the various celebrations of Holy Week: the final time for confession before Easter is this Tuesday, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM; the Solemn Celebration 01 the Lord's Passion on Good Friday afternoon at 3:00 PM, and especially, the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday evening at 7:30 PM. Masses on Easter Sunday will be: 8:30 and 11:00 AM. I remind you of the Paschal Fast to be observed this Good Friday and if possible, on Holy Saturday as well: no meat and less food. By observing this fast, we will receive the joys of Our Lord's Resurrection with uplifted and responsive hearts. Night Prayer will be celebrated on Holy Thursday at 10:00 PM. Morning Prayer will be celebrated on Good Friday morning at 9:00 AM, and Saturday morning at 9:00 AM. Stations of the Cross will be prayed on Good Friday evening at 7:00 PM. You are also welcome to join me on Good Friday, at 12 noon, for an Ecumenical Prayer Service at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 400 Lynbrooke Road, Springfield. I will be preaching the homily. Because of my recent cancer surgery, I cannot donate blood yet. But please consider donating blood, the gift of life, at our annual Red Cross Blood Drive this Monday, March 21, from 2:00 to 7:00 PM, in the Parish Hall. No appointment is necessary; just drop in. Donating blood is a great Lenten activity and a wonderful way to imitate Our Lord, Who offered His blood for our salvation. We offer some of our blood to help save someone's life. Please donate!! If possible, we would like the Ministers to the Homebound who can, to deliver a plant and card to those they visit. We also need other volunteers to help us. The plants and cards can be picked up at the convent between 9:15 AM and 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, March 22, and they should be delivered that day. The annual Archdiocesan WeQding Anniversary Mass will take place on Saturday, May 7, at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul at the 5:15 PM Vigil Mass with Archbishop Charles Chaput presiding. This Mass is to pray for, and with, all married couples who are newlyweds, or who have been married 25 years or more, or 50 years or more. Friends and family are welcome and encouraged to attend. 5 THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT CLOTHING DRIVE DE PAUL Holy Cross Parish will be hosting a clothing drive to benefit The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Saturday, April 2, from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will be using the services of GreenDrop to support their clothing drive. Look for the GreenDrop truck in the church parking lot where an attendant will be available to assist you with your donations. Please place your donations of usable men's, women's and children's clothing into plastic bags or boxes. Household items such as: kitchenware, games/toys, small appliances under SO pounds, electronics, sporting goods, books, CDs and videos are also accepted. Unfortunately, furniture, large appliances, TVs or computer monitors cannot be accepted.
