Please call the rectory at to set up an appointment with a Priest. First time parents and godparents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Session. Only when Certificates of Eligibility from godparents are presented, then a date for the baptism can be set. The Baptism Preparation Sessions are held the first Sunday of the month at 12:30 PM in the Upper Church, with registration required. To register, please call the parish secretary during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM). Registration must be made prior to the last Friday of the month. f no registrations are received, a session may not be held. 2 PASTOR'S CORNER Holy Cross parish needs $13,000 each week from our Sunday coltection to pay for all the parish bills - salaries, insurance, assessment, electricity, air conditioning, water, repairs, etc. When the amount is not met, we either need to take from our modest parish reserves or go deeper into debt. From now on in the bulletin, we will list both the amount of money needed and the amount of money received in our Sunday collection. J am happy to announce that our new Holy Cross School principal is Mrs. Maureen Ward - our current J!l' grade teacher. Mrs. Ward is a member of St. Francis of Assisi parish here in Springfield and has been teaching at Holy Cross for many years. We say thank you and goodbye to our current principal, Mrs. Dawn Perry, who will be the new principal at the combined St. Luke, Glenside, and mmaculate Conception, Jenkintown, school in Montgomery County. Please keep Mrs. Ward and Mrs. Perry in your prayers. Next Sunday is the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ - the gift of Jesus Himset], among us and for us. mmediately following the 11:30 AM Mass, we will have a Eucharistic Procession outside Church ending with Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament on the balcony in front of Church. 4 FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK All of us here want to love God. or we wouldn't be here! But many people, some of us, on their terms, not His. Moses in today's 1 st reading tells us that we must keep the statutes and commandments which God gave us on the mountain. and we hear the Lord Jesus, Himself saying today: "teach them to observe all that have commanded you." Unfortunately, many people around us do not believe this. They join a church, but later they leave complaining about all the rules. Catholics certainly balk at rules, often saying they're tired of the Pope, the Bishops, the Priests or just the Church in general telling them what they must and must not do. They want to love God on their own terms. God's act of love in creating and redeeming us calls for a response. That response is summed up in what many regard as one of the ugliest words in our language. We demand it of our children but reject it if asked of us. God asks for "obedience." Obedience is not a burden. t doesn't mean: "Do this because told you to! Obedience means "to listen intensely." The Lord wants us to listen to Him. God want us to listen to His song of love. He wants us to see His acts of love made visible in Jesus Christ He wants us to experience the power of love through the gift of the Holy Spirit The Blessed Trinity is the expression of God's love. The Trinity calls us to love in return. The Trinity is a promise that the Lord is with us - so that we can love God. MOTHERS' HOME Dear Father Gabin, On behalf of the Mothers' Home, would like to thank your parishioners for their generous donation of $4, The parishioners who give monetary gifts are truly a blessing to Mothers' Home and the operations of Mothers' Home. The donations help us to be able to purchase much needed items for the program and support the residents as they move toward independence. The baby bottle drives provide the additional resources needed for general operating expenses. The Mothers' Home is ab1eto provide housing and care for up to 22 pregnant women and their babies at one given - e. We are in the process of updating the existing structure, as no work has been done on the property for many years. New flooring has been installed on all of the floors and severa! areas have been painted, including the front door. All of the old windows have been replaced with new energy efficient ones. STUMPTl PA Q. know that Confession is a sacrament and that at one time or another we all sin. Please tell me, though, if we should confess venial sins or go to confession if we do not believe we have sinned. What should we confess, or should we search for even the smallest sin and confess it, even though we do not believe it needs confession? A. Many people have asked this same question. Here are a couple things to keep in mind. 1. How often do you examine your conscience? 'm not sure how often you go to confession, but if you go once or twice a year and that's when you examine your conscience, no wonder you can't think of any sins. So much has happened in that time that will bet you can't remember all the good things you have done either. can't remember what had for breakfast this morning! My recommendation and my own practice are to examine my conscience every night before retire. pray to the Holy Spirit to help me; examine my conscience and then sayan Act of Contrition. THEN WRTE MY SNS DOWN. You write yourself notes about other things, don't you? When go to confession once a month, take my list with me. have plenty to tell. 2.. Why would you not want to confess your little sins? Our Lord died for little sins as well as big ones. When you confess even your little sins in confession, you receive a special SACRAMENTAL GRACE which you do not receive when you confess them privately in your prayers. The sacramental grace aids you in the continual conversion that is essential to life in Christ. Pray: "My 3. soul is thirsting for you, 0 Lord." Do you do any spiritual reading? Read a little bit of Scripture or some spiritual book and you will become more sensitive to what sins you commit and what you need to be purified of. Mention these areas of your life in confession and receive the SACRAMENTAL GRACE, Christ's own life in you, which makes you more like Him. Read John 1: He 0244
