5 FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK A teacher specialized In teaching students with Attention Deficit Disorder. I(nowlng that the concentration span of an ADD student is brief, he used subtle signs or clues to regain his students' attention. One such "trick" was that when hewas about to say something Important enough to be on a test, the teacher rapped his ring on the lectern. It did not take long for one student to catch on. So the day came that when the teacher rapped his ring, the student spoke out: "Watch out, this will be on the testl" In today's Gospel, Our Lord points to something Important: the heart and spirit of the Law of God. His interpretations of God's law were radical In their Implications. As an example, In the Jewish thinking of that day, a man could divorce his wife for frivolous reasons -like burning the toastl Our Lord now taught that marriage lasts until death. A civil divorce does not end a marriage, and so, except for an annulment, divorce and remarriage Is actually adulteryl Our Lord, In claiming that even our thoughts can be declared adulterous and thus sinful, returns to the reasons for the Law. We are to honor and respect each other, and this means keeping boundaries. Right conduct and harmony between believers Is so Important to Jesus. The reconciliation with someone with whom we have a grievance Iseven more Important than devotion. Our Lord teaches: "Go, first be reconciled, and then bring your gift." We must pay attention. How we conform ourselves to the person of Christ Is on the testl Af) l?.emember ~ ",if Our SIck W Bob Cassidy Patricia Lyons Stephen Collins Linda Marandola Sharon Diemer Joanne Marks Cornelius Dunleavy Catherine McNulty Dorothy Eberhard Thomas Miller Mary Ann Farrell Lynn Neary Margaret Goate Eve Palermo Michele Goff Florence Palmer Carolyn Henderson Laurann E.
