May we hear and do what you command, that the darkness may be overcome by the power of your light; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit now and forever. 4 Call to Worship Sierra Leone Leader: The heavens are telling the glory of God, all creation speaks volumes of God s handiwork. People: Each sunrise proclaims God s faithfulness and the night reveals the Creator s awe. Leader: Without a world being spoken, all creation bear witness to the goodness of the Lord. People: So, too, may we join in witness with all creation. May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be God s signature in the world. *Hymn - For the Beauty of the Earth PH #473 *Prayer of Confession (unison) Leader: Gracious God, who made covenant with our ancestors, People: we gather here today as a rebellious people. Leader: We want to act out your intentions for us, People: but we get sidetracked by the false glitter of the world. Leader: You tell us to honor Creation, People: But we use other people, animals, and plants for our own gain. Leader: You offer bread to every living creature, People: and we steal that bread from our brothers and sisters in the name of greed. Leader: You promise us new life, People: But we shrink back in fear, clinging to our deathdealing ways. Leader: Heal us, O Lord, lest we destroy ourselves and the planet. There is no difference in this among people, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Killebrew RESPONSE TO THE WORD *Affirmation of Faith - (unison) from El Salvador I believe, Lord, that everything good in the world comes from you. I believe in your great love for all people. I believe that, because you preached love, freedom and justice, you were humiliated, tortured and killed. I believe that you continue to suffer in our people

7 I believe that you call me to defend your cause, but I also believe that you accompany me in the task of transforming this world into a different one where there is no suffering or weeping; A world where there is a gigantic table set with free food where everyone is welcome. I believe that you accompany us in waiting for the dawning of a new day. I believe that you will give us strength so that death does not find us without having done enough, that you will rise in those who have died seeking a different world. Offering Let us come to this time of giving, not out of guilt, but in anticipation of the good we can do and of the joy to be experienced both by us and by those whom we help. May our offerings and our lives bear testimony to the purposes of God, revealed in Jesus Christ. Prayer of Dedication Hymn - We Come to This Table. KREMSER ( We Gather Together ) We come to this table, O God, with thanksgiving. We lift up our hearts, we remember, we pray. We hear Jesus welcome-- inviting, forgiving; We know your Spirit s peace as we feast here today. We dine at your table as sisters and brothers, Diverse in our cultures, yet nourished as one. The bread and the cup that we share here with others Are gifts uniting all who are claimed by your Son.

12 If you have not done so, please fill out new sign up forms for Sunday School, so that we have all your CORRECT info. Children should follow Mrs. Kolecki out after the Children s Sermon. Last week we talked about Daniel and King Darius and God keeping Daniel safe in the lion s den. This week we will be talking about Job and how good and bad things happen to God s Children You may pick your children up in Calvin Hall after service. We will be breaking the classes down differently this year. We will have a pre-reader group that will be Preschool Kindergarten, the name for that group will be the Sheep. Our next group will be 1 st and 2 nd grade that group will be know as the Shepherds, and oldest group for Sunday School will be 3 rd 5 th grade, will be known as the Disciples. Please see Gretchen Kolecki, Director of Christian Education to sign up to teach/help with the Sunday School Program. There also is a sign-up sheet outside the Director of Christian Ed. s door. 13 There will be no youth group THIS evening because we are meeting for the CROP WALK. The youth group will be meeting and walking in the CROP WALK this week. Youth group members should plan to stay for lunch after church and then the group will proceed to walk. As always you can bring a friend. The crop walk is from 1-4pm. We have lots of exciting activities coming up for our Youth Group members and their families: October 24, am-9pm Pop Shop Fundraiser. 15% of ALL orders that mention they are with the Collingswood Presbyterian Youth Group will be donated and will help raise funds for the mission trip and retreats. Look for a flyer coming soon. Anyone can attend through out the day, just mention you are supporting the CPC Youth Group. November 23, 24 & 25, 2013 is the Senior High Johnsonburg retreat. The cost is $99. $50 is due by October 13 th. Checks should be made out to CPC. December 6, 7 & 8, 2013 is the Junior High Johnsonburg retreat. The cost is $99. $50 is due by October 13 th. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial where he called all of us to share the dream of racial equality, freedom and economic justice.
