4 Call to Worship Leader: When we seek justice for the other, when we love kindness more than ever, People: we live as God asks us to live. Leader: When we are willing to look foolish by following Jesus, when we choose weakness rather than power, People: we reflect the One who is in our midst. *Hymn: O For A World GTG #372 Verses 1-4 *Prayer of Confession Leader: If we want to truly live in God's presence, we must live as God's faithful people. Let us begin by confessing all the mistakes we have made, the wrongs we have done, the people we have hurt. Join me as we pray together, saying, People: What have we done to you, dear God? We dishonor you every time we treat another with disrespect. We shatter your heart when we find it easier to break our word, than to take the risk to keep it. We fill your ears with the gossip, lies, and slander we speak about those around us. You are wise enough to forgive our foolishness; you are strong enough to overcome our weakness; you are loving enough to heal the hurt we cause to you and to others. Offering The wealth of many nations has come to us, and we have considered it our due. The needs of the world beckon us to share, and we have turned instead to accumulating more things than we can use. The unsearchable riches of Christ are at our disposal, but we let them go untapped. Sunday School: Children should follow Mrs. Kolecki out after the Children s Sermon. You may pick your children up in Calvin Hall after the service. Nursery is for children aged birth to 3 years old. Our nursery workers are Madeline Almand, Brie Lynch, and Natalie Sperlunto. Parents are invited to sign-up in the nursery to come in and do an activity such as a song, read a book, or other activity with the older nursery children.

10 Last week in Sunday School, we talked about how Jeremiah prophesied a new covenant between God and Israel and Judah. This week, we will talk about how the rebuilding of the temple was halted, but King Darius gave permission for the work to continue. Please ask the children what they learned. We will also be making heart decorations for the bulletin board. You may pick your children up in Calvin Hall after the service. We are breaking the classes down differently this year. We will have a pre-reader group that will be Preschool Kindergarten, the name for that group will be the Sheep. Our next group will be 1 st and 2 nd grade that group will be know as the Shepherds, and oldest group for Sunday School will be 3 rd 5 th grade, will be known as the Disciples. Please see Gretchen Kolecki, Director of Christian Education to sign up to teach/help with the Sunday School Program. There is also a sign-up sheet outside the Director of Christian Ed. s door. 11 There is no Youth Group this week. There will be Youth Group next week, February 9th, from 6:30 to 8 pm. 30 Hour Famine: We are joining with 7 other churches this year to participate in the World Vision 30 Hour Famine on February 21st to 22nd. If you would like to sponsor one of our youth or just donate to the cause, please call Gretchen Kolecki, CE Director. We are also collecting jeans for the Teen for Jeans campaign. These jeans are for homeless teenagers so please ask friends and family if they have any jeans they can donate. Bring the jeans you are donating to Youth Group. Breakfast Club: Students in 6, 7 & 8 th grades will come out of service when the Sunday School children do and go to the Bells Room to have Bible study and snacks with Richard Aylor, the Seminary intern. Breakfast club will meet on the 3 rd Sunday of each month. Confirmation students are encouraged to attend. Breakfast club will resume in March. Thank you for supporting our Hoagie Sale. Please pick up the hoagies that you bought after the service. Each hoagie is $7.00. We are still in need of parents to sign up to bring in snack and to be a Parent helper when needed. 13 What is that Per Capita Envelope in my box of envelopes? Many years ago, the Presbyterian Church wanted to be sure that anyone could come to the meetings of the General Assembly (national church), Synod, and Presbytery. They didn t want to have an elitist church where only the wealthy landowners would meet to make decisions about the government of the church. So, they established a small per member fee that each church would pay to the governing bodies so those meetings could pay for those gatherings. That was the beginning of per capita. Now per capita pays for legal costs, administrative costs of the national and regional offices, and still the meeting costs of those bodies. Because of per capita, our Presbyterian Church Mission pledge goes for mission work and not for administrative overhead, like many other organizations. Some people call it a tax, which it isn t. Nor is it a franchise fee. It is our church s commitment to make representation equal and administration costs low for mission ventures. We ask that each adult member and confirmand (not per family per member) pay $40.00 in addition to your pledge.
