People: They shall walk and not faint. Leader: Give praise to God by whose mercy we have been born anew into a living hope! But God picks us up, sets us on the solid ground of grace, and sends us out as servants. Let us confess our sins to the One who is always faithful. ALL: Silence is kept. Shaped, formed, born to be servants, Faithful One, we spend so much time focused on ourselves. Called to be saints, we deeply despise those with whom we disagree. Challenged to testify about the good news, we keep silent, hoarding stories of joy and hope for ourselves. Forgive us, Merciful Lamb. 8 Worship Matters - The Meaning of Membership The Meaning of Membership and Baptism In Jesus Christ, God calls people to faith and to membership in the Church, the body of Christ. Baptism is the visible sing of that call and claim on a human life and of entrance into the membership of the church. The baptism of children witnesses to the truth that God s love claims people before they are able to respond in faith. The baptism of those who enter the covenant of membership upon their own profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior witnesses to the truth that God s gift of grace calls forth a response of faithfulness. Thus, the triune God, incarnate in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, gives to the Church not only its mission but also its understanding of membership. Welcome and Openness A congregation shall welcome all persons who trust in God s grace in Jesus Christ and desire to become part of the fellowship and ministry of his Church (F ). No person shall be denied membership for any reason not related to profession of faith. The Gospel leads members to extend the fellowship of Christ to all persons. Failure to do so constitutes a rejection of Christ himself and causes a scandal to the Gospel. The Ministry of Members Membership in the Church of Jesus Christ is a joy and a privilege. It is also a commitment to participate in Christ s mission. A faithful member bears witness to God s love and grace and promises to be involved responsibly in the ministry of Christ s Church. Such involvement includes: proclaiming the good news in word and deed, taking part in the common life and worship of a congregation, lifting on another up in prayer, mutual concern, and active support. studying Scripture and the issues of Christian faith and life, supporting the ministry of the church through the giving of money, time and talents, demonstrating a new quality of life within and through service to others, living responsibly in the personal, family, vocational, political, cultural, and social relationships of life. working in the world for peace, justice, freedom, and human fulfillment, participating in the governing responsibilities of the church, and reviewing and evaluating regularly the integrity of one s membership, and considering ways in which one s participation in the worship and service of the church may be increased and made more meaningful. 11 Children in Prek-5th grade will follow Mrs. Kolecki out of service after the Baptism. They will go down to the Junior Room and have an Activity which is a short bible lesson and an activity, either a craft, coloring sheet, word search, music or other activity. You can meet your children in the Dining Room after service. Have a safe summer! Thank you to all those you have supported the youth group in their efforts to go on their mission trip and to the Triennium, especially, Pastor Kate, Aurora Sperlunto, and Dennis Kolecki. Also, special thanks to Abby Murray who generously lent the youth group her luggage carrier. It was desperately needed. And, to Keith & Peggy Haines who treated the kids to a Barbeque and ice cream dinner during their stay at Massanetta. If you have a family member in the Youth Group, please join our Facebook page: Collingswood Presbyterian Church Youth Group. The lounge renovation is underway, work has begun. You can take a peek at "'the construction site through the window. Although the lounge will be closed indefinitely for now. We are aiming for a mid- September re-opening dedication. In the meantime, Fellowship and Coffee hour will be set up in Dining Room. Sorry for any inconvenience. But how exciting this is actually taking place!! 13 St. Paul s Food Pantry - The greatest need at this time is for breakfast cereal, but we are also collecting canned tuna or meat and jelly. Any items you care to donate are greatly appreciated. In these difficult economic times, there is a large number of clients. Donations can be put on the table in the back of the sanctuary. Victory Garden - Confirmation Class members are working on the Victory Garden all summer long. Produce from our garden will go to the Collingswood Food pantry. If you have abundant produce from your home gardens and wish to share, please leave on the table in the narthex. Love to Garden? - We still need weeders and waterers for the Fern Avenue lawn and memorial garden for the summer. If you want to help, please talk with Louanna Sills. Please let us know when you are out there working in the heat! The next opportunity to be received into membership at CPC will be at the Session meeting on August 12. Please speak to Pastor Kate about arranging for a visit to discuss your membership.
