4 Call to Worship Leader: Praise the Lord! People: I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. Leader: Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them. People: Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever. Leader: God has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the Lord is gracious and merciful. People: God provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant. Leader: God has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations. People: The works of God s hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy. Leader: They are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness People: He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Leader: Let us worship our God! *Hymn: Arise, Your Light Is Come GTG #744 *Prayer of Confession Leader: As the Apostle Paul challenged the church in Corinth to seek unity, so too, are we urged to seek peace and work together. As Paul says in his letter, Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in agreement and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same purpose. People: Forgive us Lord, when we have not sought to be in agreement with our brothers and sisters. Sometimes

5 we just don t even bother to listen or care. We just walk away expecting somebody else to care. Leader: For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there are quarrels among you, my brothers and sisters. People: We have argued with our family when we should be building each other up. We have ignored the cries for help from those beyond ourselves. Leader: For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. People: Forgive us, O Lord, when we want the power and glory. Forgive us when we turn out back on others who need our help. Grant us your strength to be the body of Christ to love and serve as you call us. Amen. *Words of Assurance Leader: God promises to build up the body of Christ with the Holy Spirit that heals and strengthens. People: Help us to be open to that Spirit, O God. Help us to turn from ME to WE. Leader: Christ is made visible through the Body of this Congregation. God promises that we will grow and thrive as we follow God s will. People: Thanks be to God that we are forgiven and freed to serve, love and care. 7 Gospel Lesson: Matthew 4:12-23 (p. 879) Sermon: Call Waiting The Rev. Dr. Katherine G. Killebrew WE RESPOND TO GOD S WORD *Affirmation of Faith: PCUSA Brief Statement of Faith Leader: We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. ALL: The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church. Leader: The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the Church. ALL: In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. Leader: In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God's new heaven and new earth, praying, Come, Lord Jesus! Sunday School: Children should follow Mrs. Kolecki out after the Baptism. You may pick your children up in Calvin Hall after service. Nursery is for children aged birth to 3 years old. Our nursery workers are Madeline Almand, Brie Lynch, and Natalie Sperlunto. Parents are invited to sign-up in the nursery to come in and do an activity such as a song, read a book, or other activity with the older nursery children.

11 Last week in Sunday School we watched a What s in the Bible with Buck Denver? video. It discussed how the books of the bible were chosen. This week we will talk about Jeremiah prophesied a new covenant between God and Israel and Judah. All the people would know God and the law of God would be written on their hearts. Please ask the children what they learned. We will also be making heart decorations for the bulletin board. You may pick your children up in Calvin Hall after service. We are breaking the classes down differently this year. We will have a pre-reader group that will be Preschool Kindergarten, the name for that group will be the Sheep. Our next group will be 1 st and 2 nd grade that group will be know as the Shepherds, and oldest group for Sunday School will be 3 rd 5 th grade, will be known as the Disciples. Please see Gretchen Kolecki, Director of Christian Education to sign up to teach/help with the Sunday School Program. There is also a sign-up sheet outside the Director of Christian Ed. s door. 12 This week at the youth will be participating in a cooperative supervised scavenger hunt, where bible verses will serve as their clues. Youth Group this week from 6:30pm-8pm. Please bring back your signed covenants. We are also collecting jeans for the Teen for Jeans campaign. These jeans are for homeless teenagers so please ask friends and family if they have any jeans they can donate. Bring the jeans you are donating to youth group. Last week s PAC Meeting was very successful. We discussed the 30 hr. famine and upcoming youth activities and fundraisers. Breakfast Club: Students in 6, 7 & 8 th grades will come out of service when the Sunday School children do and go to the Bells Room to have bible study and snacks with Richard Aylor the Seminary intern. Breakfast club will meet on the 3 rd Sunday of each month. Confirmation students are encouraged to attend. Breakfast club will resume in March. Please Support our Hoagie Sale. See the order form on the back of the Bulletin. We are still in need of parents to sign up to bring in snack and to be a Parent helper when needed. 14 What is that Per Capita Envelope in my box of envelopes? Many years ago, the Presbyterian Church wanted to be sure that anyone could come to the meetings of the General Assembly (national church), Synod, and Presbytery. They didn t want to have an elitist church where only the wealthy landowners would meet to make decisions about the government of the church. So they established a small per member fee that each church would pay to the governing bodies so those meetings could pay for those gatherings. That was the beginning of per capita. Now per capita pays for legal costs, administrative costs of the national and regional offices, and still the meeting costs of those bodies. Because of per capita, our Presbyterian Church Mission pledge goes for mission work and not for administrative overhead, like many other organizations. Some people call it a tax, which it isn t. Nor is it a franchise fee. It is our church s commitment to make representation equal and administration costs low for mission ventures. We ask that each adult member and confirmand (not per family per member) pay $40.00 in addition to your pledge.
