3 COLLINGSWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SERVICE FOR THE LORD S DAY October 27, th Sunday in Ordinary Time ASSEMBLE IN GOD S NAME Silent Prayer Pour out your Spirit upon us as we gather, God of our salvation: so your grace might strengthen us for service; so your peace might calm our troubled souls; so your hope might mend our broken hearts. Amen Prelude Welcome and Announcements We welcome you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ! Please sign the guest book in the narthex so we can send you a welcome packet. 4 Call to Worship Leader: This is the day the Lord has made: People: a day for praise and prayer; a day for gratitude and generosity. Leader: This is the time God has given us: People: a time for singing and silence; a time for speaking and listening. Leader: This is the life to which God calls us: People: a life of humility and service; a life of faith and trust. *Hymn - A Mighty Fortress Is Our God PH #260 *Prayer of Confession Leader: When we pray to God, do we do so with pride in what wonderful people we are, or with that humble hope which recognizes how we have not lived as God s children, and how we need God s forgiveness and grace in our lives? Join me as we pray to our God, saying, All: Watching God, like the Pharisee, we think we can stick our thumbs into life, pull out a prayer, and congratulate ourselves for being such good Christians. Then, we remember the harsh words we have spoken this week, the hurt we have inflicted on someone we loved, the lack of compassion we failed to offer to someone who needed our help. Silence is kept Forgive us, God of Grace, and deal gently with us. May we become more like the tax collector - humble, penitent, acknowledging our faulty lives to you. Then, may we receive the mercy promised to us through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. *Assurance of Pardon Leader: Forgiven and healed, we open ourselves to the grace, the peace, the hope offered to us through our loving God. This is the good news we have received!

7 RESPONSE TO THE WORD *Affirmation of Faith - A Brief Statement of Faith We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus pro claimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. Offering How shall we tithe for the service of God all that is already God s gift to us? How shall we share what is grossly misbalanced in our favor? Will we justify our greed, or seek justice for all? These questions will find answers, not in our words, but in our deeds. Let us give thanks and answers with our offerings. 11 If you have not done so, please fill out new sign up forms for Sunday School, so that we have all your CORRECT info. Children should follow Richard Aylor out after the Children s Sermon and can be picked up in the lounge after service. Last week we talked again about Job, this time we discussed how we are all part of God s big world. This week we will be talking about Johah and how God finds us where ever we go. You may pick your children up in Calvin Hall after service. Last week the children were given Trick or Treat for Unicef Boxes. If your child did not get one last week or you need another, there are more in Calvin Hall or ask your Sunday School teacher for more. We will be breaking the classes down differently this year. We will have a pre-reader group that will be Preschool Kindergarten, the name for that group will be the Sheep. Our next group will be 1 st and 2 nd grade that group will be know as the Shepherds, and oldest group for Sunday School will be 3 rd 5 th grade, will be known as the Disciples. Please see Gretchen Kolecki, Director of Christian Education to sign up to teach/help with the Sunday School Program. There also is a sign-up sheet outside the Director of Christian Ed. s door. 12 Tonight there is Youth Group 6:30pm -8pm. Please come in an appropriate Halloween costume.no weapons etc. If you can t wear it to school, you can t wear it here. Thank you to all those who supported our Youth Group by dining at the Pop Shop this past Thursday! Up coming events: Breakfast Club.: Is held the third Sunday of the month. The next on is on November 17, 2013 Students in 6, 7 & 8 th grades will come out of service when the Sunday School children do and go to the Bells Room to have bible study and snacks with Richard Ayler the Seminary intern. Breakfast club will meet on the 3 rd Sunday of each month. Confirmation students are encouraged to attend. November 23, 24 & 25, 2013 is the Senior High Johnsonburg retreat. The cost is $99. $50 is due NOW. Checks should be made out to CPC. December 6, 7 & 8, 2013 is the Junior High Johnsonburg retreat. The cost is $99. $50 is due by NOW. 13 Dedication of the newly renovated lounge and CE classrooms after church today! We will commend to God the work and future use of the lounge and upstairs Calvin classrooms. Money for these projects came from individual member donors and from our Memorial Fund. That fund is used to purchase furnishings, worship materials, musical instruments, and permanent building improvements in the memory or honor of someone from the church or our families. We always have a list of needs far beyond what our budget can fund. We would love to honor your loved one with one of these needed items: Flat screen TV for the lounge for education classes New windows in the lounge (and other parts of the building!) Air conditioning for the lounge Repair of the broken stained glass windows Monitors for AV equipment for new worship programs Hymnals are still available for dedication! The Session of Collingswood Presbyterian Church calls a congregational meeting for Sunday October 27 after church (12 pm) for the purpose of electing officers to fill the vacant positions of the session and deacons. Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday 11/3 at 2 a.m. Don t forget to set your clocks back one hour when you go to bed Saturday night!
