We pay strict attention to all who break the rules, but ignore the grace which is poured out upon us. 8 RESPONSE TO THE WORD Offering O God, we do not pretend that these gifts are more than small tokens of what a real offering would be. You ask for the commitment of our lives; we bring a few leftovers from the abundance of your generosity to us. Yet, for some, there is sacrifice there, for some a deep sense of appreciation and thanksgiving, for some a conviction that all we claim as our own, even life itself, belongs to you and is only loaned to us to manage for a while. Take these beginning understandings and help us to grow toward faithful stewardship of all you entrust to us. 11 Last week in Sunday School we talked about how Jesus calls us to be children of light, and to share that light with the world. This week we will be talking about how Jesus teaches us his example when he washed the disciples feet. We are continuing with a weekly note for families of children and youth who use the Gather Round curriculum. Each Sunday you will find faith nurture ideas that coordinate with the weekly session plans for your child s group. Gather Round Session 5 - TALKABOUT John 13:1 20; Jesus teaches by example. Talk about the Bible story children and youth explored this week. Here are some ways to nurture faith at home based on this week s story. (1) Read John 13: 3 5. Picture Jesus kneeling down before you and washing your feet. How do you feel? (2) Talk about which household chores you like the least. The best? (3) What family service project can you do this week? Do you know? Jesus calls us to [unscramble the words] reesv heca toher. Prayer for the week: Thanks for hands, thanks for feet. Thank you for this food to eat. Thanks for work and thanks for fun. Thank you for the day that s done. Amen. Please ask the children what they learned. 12 Youth: There will be Youth Group from 5:30-8 pm this week Come to Bible Study from 5:30-7:30 and then we will be working on Youth Sunday. This week Richard will be discussing Harry Potter and it s Christian themes. We really need your Signed Covenants. If you haven t done so already, you must bring them in. Please Support the CPC Youth Group by purchasing some baked goods on Sunday, April 13th. We will have tasty treats for you to take home with you as you celebrate or mourn your tax returns. Proceeds will go towards the Mission trips this summer. Mission trip to Massanetta Springs: The Youth will be attending Mission at Massanetta from July th. A $100 deposit and an or text confirming your child will be attending the trip is due by April 13. If I DON'T hear from you, I am going to assume that your child is not attending. 16 GYM PROJECT UPDATE! The property committee s gym project is moving along. There are several areas where suggestions from the congregation are needed (wall art and floor games, in particular). If anyone or a group has any ideas or suggestions for decorating the gym walls, the property committee would welcome suggestions. In addition we need someone to make a stencil for painting on the basketball court with CPC in some sort of logo form. We are planning to have a ½ court basketball court, hopscotch and 4 square games and maybe a badminton court painted on the floor. If anyone has other suggestions for games or has ideas for the wall decorations, please let Mike Amato or any property committee member know. Little things can make a big difference. Last week your Deacons delivered 2 1/2 pounds of aluminum can tabs to the Ronald McDonald House in Camden. These are the little tabs you pull to open soda, soup, cat food, or other aluminum cans. The funds generated from recycling these aluminum gems help offset the House's expenses. Bring the tabs you collect to church, and leave them on the Deacons table in the back of the Sanctuary. 18 CPC Deacons News The Interfaith Hospitality Outreach Council has served homeless men for over 20 years. The need is enormous for housing, job counseling and support for homeless men to get back on their feet This year, we are privileged to host homeless guests in our church April 20-May 4, We have helped the Baptist church in the past with their hosting weeks. We will be supported by other congregations in Collingswood but will need your help for overnight hosts at the church and dinner preparation IHOC Shoebox Hygiene Kits Each year Interfaith Homeless Outreach Council (IHOC) collects shoeboxes filled with basic hygiene items. These kits are distributed as needed to people in crisis throughout Camden County. You can put together an entire shoebox or pledge to bring in certain items, which the Deacons will use to make complete kits. Each box must have ALL of the items in column A. Boxes can be further enhanced with additional items, such as those in column B. All donated items must be unused. If you choose to pledge items, please choose and sign up at the table in the narthex; or see Karen Mazak or Lorrie Heuser. All supplies and boxes must be at CPC by TODAY! 19 Feed My Starving Children is a Christian nonprofit organization dedicated to getting food to starving and malnourished children in developing nations. A single meal costs only 22 cents to produce and 92% of total donations goes directly toward the food program. Feed the Starving Children Statistics 22 cents Buys one meal $33. Feeds 5 children for 1 month $50. The average volunteer packs this amount of food in one 2-hour shift. $80. Feeds 1 child for a year $ meals $330. 1% of our 2014 goal $400. Feeds a family of 5 for a year $500. Feeds 6 schools children for a year $1485. Feeds 25 school children for a year $8030 Feeds a village of 100 for a year FMSC brings the food to us - rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, vitamins, and minerals in a vegetarian chicken flavor. In 2- hour shifts, volunteers of all ages pack the food into 6-serving plastic bags, seal, and box for shipping. 20 Session Highlights We began our first meeting with a planning and visioning meeting with the Deacons. It was an exciting, spirit filled time where we came up with new ideas and strategies to grow our church in many ways. We welcomed new elders Karen Schuehler and Jennifer Giordano. Approval of the baptisms of Jacob Smentek and Noelle Perrin. Election of Candace Lowden as the President of the Board of Trustees. Election of Barbara Bockmann as the Treasurer for Approved the use of the lounge this summer for a weekly "Music Together" program for parents and children.. Commended the work of the property committee for energy audit and painting of the gym. Vacation Bible school will be July 6-10 and the youth will travel to Massanetta, Virginia for their mission trip this summer. We approved the contract with Princeton Seminary for seminary intern for the school year Noha Khoury is an exceptional candidate with lots of experience with youth ministry. Confirmation will be on May 25. Youth Sunday will be June 8. The Mission and Outreach committee is sponsoring the coffee house and the sales of Fair Trade coffee/tea. That committee and the Deacons will oversee the hosting of the guests from the IHOC program April 20- May4. The church picnic will be June 22 at Knight Park.

23 Easter Plants 2014 We will once again be offering Easter plants to be purchased in memory or in honor of a friend or loved one. The plants will be used to decorate our sanctuary on Easter Sunday. At the conclusion of the service you may take your plant with you or you can leave it for the Deacons to distribute to shut -ins. The cost of each plant is $12.50 except for Easter Lilies, which are $9.00 each.
