4 Call to Worship Leader: We gather in awe, People: standing in the presence of the One who crafted the stars, the mountains, the seas. Leader: We gather in faith, People: trusting that the One who has held little children holds our lives in the heart of God. We run around trying to do everything our way, and God just waits. We try to buy life and happiness, and God waits. We hurt others and walk away from those in need, and God waits. God waits, and upon hearing our heartfelt prayers and cries for help, God touches us with forgiveness and new life. Come, join me as we pray to the One who waits to hear - from us! People: Surrounded by so many seductions, Patient God, we find it difficult to see you in our lives. Justice has a hard time surviving when there is so much persecution and affliction towards the little ones of the world. Our neighborhoods, our families, even our churches, are filled with strife and contention. Silent prayers may be offered We cry for help, Listening God; forgive us! Dr. Deborah Debby G. Brincivalli RESPONSE TO THE WORD *Affirmation of Faith - Brief Statement of Faith (unison) We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love, God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God's image, male and female, of every race and people, to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator. Ignoring God's commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve God's condemnation. Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth. Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage.

7 Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God is faithful Offering All silver and gold belong to God. It is God who grants prosperity. How do we answer God s generosity? Surely with joy and imitation, giving as we have been blessed, with a song in our hearts. 12 Children should follow Mrs. Kolecki out after the Children s Sermon and can be picked up in the lounge after service. Last week we talked about Jonah and how God finds us where ever we go. This week we will be talking again about Jonah and how God s mercy is for everyone. You may pick your children up in Calvin Hall after service. Last week the children were given Trick or Treat for Unicef Boxes. Please send in the boxes with change in them as soon as possible. We will be breaking the classes down differently this year. We will have a pre-reader group that will be Preschool Kindergarten, the name for that group will be the Sheep. Our next group will be 1 st and 2 nd grade that group will be know as the Shepherds, and oldest group for Sunday School will be 3 rd 5 th grade, will be known as the Disciples. Please see Gretchen Kolecki, Director of Christian Education to sign up to teach/help with the Sunday School Program. There also is a sign-up sheet outside the Director of Christian Ed. s door. 13 There is Youth Group this week 6:30-8pm. Up coming events: Breakfast Club.: Is held the third Sunday of the month. The next on is on November 17, 2013 Students in 6, 7 & 8 th grades will come out of service when the Sunday School children do and go to the Bells Room to have bible study and snacks with Richard Aylor the Seminary intern. Breakfast club will meet on the 3 rd Sunday of each month. Confirmation students are encouraged to attend. November 22, 23 & 24, 2013 is the Senior High Johnsonburg retreat. The cost is $99. $50 is due NOW. Checks should be made out to CPC. December 6, 7 & 8, 2013 is the Junior High Johnsonburg retreat. The cost is $99. $50 is due by NOW. 14 The Rev. Dr. Debby Brincivalli is the Executive Presbyter of the Presbytery of West Jersey since July, This involves care for the 61 churches and 10,000 members in our bounds in addition to caring for all clergy be they specialized, parish pastors or retired. The office of executive presbyter is one that encourages relationships and mission among churches and pastors, and is the ecumenical and interfaith dialogue representative for the presbytery, as well as providing interpretation and celebration of the connectional nature of the church. For the previous 23 years she was the pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Burlington. She is married to James Adcock. Education Bible study will be on vacation Nov 3, 10. We will pickup on Nov 17 studying the book of Galatians. Dear friends in Christ, Thank you so much for my surprise celebration for the birthday I am really not having!! I am happy we are "growing young together." Looking forward to many more years in ministry with you! I loved the cake and my cards and gifts. 15 Session Highlights The session was delighted to interview and approve nominees for Elder Mike Amato and Deacon Karen Mazak to fill unexpired two year terms. These nominees will be presented to the congregation at its meeting on October 27, 2013 The newly redecorated Lounge will be dedicated to the Glory of God and in memory of the parents of Bob Marks on Sunday October 27 immediately following church. We will begin our 2014 stewardship campaign with a Harvest Home Luncheon on October 27 following the lounge dedication. Please sign up in the narthex and bring desserts. In Christian Education the Adult Bible study, the confirmation class of 3 students and youth group all have begun this month with great success. Sunday School continues to grow with new students attending. The youth group will attend Two retreats this fall at Johnsonburg Camp. Senior high group will go in November and middle school kids will attend Dec 5-7. The Chase Fund subsidizes these trips by paying for vans and chaperones. The blood drive held at our church on Saturday, October 25 did really well! Our goal was to collect 22 units of blood and we collected 23!! Our blood drive will help 69 patients in our area. Thank you to everyone who helped organize the blood drive or donated blood on Saturday.

16 Have you seen the newly renovated lounge? It looks fantastic! It s all been redone to the glory of God for you to enjoy with all new paint, carpet, lighting & wiring, furniture and curtains, along with new counters, cabinets and plumbing for the kitchenette, even a dishwasher! Many thanks to Bob Marks for his generous donation for this renovation, in memory of his parents, Edward and Laura Marks. This project, which began back in April, was a labor of love for those on the committee. A great big thank you to the following members: Candace Lowden, Renovation Chairman; Jennifer Giordano, Renovation Co-Chairman; Mark Standring, Property Chairman; Committee members: Keith Haines, Linda Herzog, Gretchen Kolecki, Karen Mazak, Michele Perrin, Megan Standring, and Jane Trent. And thank you very much to the many others whom assisted the committee with various needs throughout the project. We would also like to thank the many area vendors who provided the necessary skill to complete the tasks. We encourage you to use their services if you have a need in your own home. M.J.K. 17 Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1 Certainty being absolutely sure of something. We don t usually use that word when we think of hope. All too often most of us say we hope for something and what we really mean is that we wish for something to happen. We really don t expect for it to happen and so we put it into the category of things that would be great if they happen- but they probably won t. Perhaps we don t want to get our hopes up. We guard ourselves against disappointment. So, sadly, when people say they hope they are really saying they doubt it. Doesn t that insure that it really won t happen? We kick out the possibility of God s actions and the participation of others who may join in the journey when we sow seeds of doubt. This season our church leaders challenge us to redefine hope. Looking at the Bible we see that hope is placing your confidence in the sure and certain hope of the action of God. Christian hope means facing the future with a certainty that God will walk with us today and surely we will change the future. As we give our worry about the future over to God, we are only asked to be faithful and willing to sacrifice your gifts to the glory of God. If we are brave and bold, we believe that God will reward all acts of faith. We may have to change course and re-route our plans, but still we know beyond the shadow of a doubt that God will guide us and give us life.
