St Francis was born in the 12th century and is the Catholic Church's patron saint of animals and the environment. It is a popular day for pets to be blessed and we invited all students to bring a picture of their pets for Fr. Thai to bless at this morning s assembly. OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH: During Respect Life Week, October 16 th 20 th, there will be discussion at all grade levels about the role of forgiveness in our lives, about past choices and consequences, and about the benefits of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We also remember five saints who were fed by prayer, heard the call, and answered it to become missionary disciples. Sts. Ann and Joachim raised the greatest saint of all time and were the grandparents of Jesus. St. John Paul II wrote, spoke, and lived the dignity of human life, even to the end of his life. St. Jerome Emiliani embraced the orphans of his time with love. Servant of God Dorothy Day healed from an experience of abortion to serve the poor and homeless in a revolutionary way. WE CONTINUE TO PRAY: For the victims of all of the recent catastrophic events, for their families and friends, and for those people who risked their own lives to help the wounded and lost. May our Blessed Mother Mary comfort them and may God in his mercy and love bring them peace. DID YOU KNOW? With school starting again, it s likely that your children are participating in a variety of after school activities. Many school sports and club programs are run by volunteers, often parents with kids of their own in the school. It s important that the school or program takes measures to protect all students, but as parents, it s critical that you follow up and confirm that the proper checks have been done. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles uses fingerprinting as its core background check. All persons, whether paid or volunteer, who have regular contact with minors or vulnerable adults are fingerprinted.
