2 HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH Coming together in our Faith.. at the Parish. Being part of a parish community brings us to where the Spirit is integrated into our lives. Church and our daily lives are not two entities that are separate and distinct. Each may have its own demands and situations but being a Catholic-Christian means that we are fully integrating the Word of God, our Sacraments, especially the Eucharist into every aspect of our personal and family lives. Two areas that seem to highlight this fact are the ministries of Leadership and Administration. Both of these virtues are essential to the life of a healthy parish spirituality and must work hand in hand. They should be seen, and experienced in both the life of the pastor as well as in the lives of every member of the parish. Ann Garrido, a friend and author, stresses this very opinion when she writes about two important aspects of parish life. She says that Leadership "...tilts us toward the creation of vision and policy". Many of the various parish leaders beautifully exhibit leadership skills that help craft the vision of what we hope our parish to be. It takes years of everyone contributing their insights to bringing a parish vision to life. Another important dimension that complements leadership is Administration. This she says, "...tilts toward the execution and management of the vision and policy." Administration may sound too businesslike but it too is an important dimension of parish life. When Leadership and Administration come together there is the possibility of a parish spirituality. It's where God loves us in the world and in our personal lives. It is how God works out our salvation by sharing his blessings with each of us. Some examples of this happening are seen in the various ways that ministry can be expressed. * If we speak of Christian spirituality we mean Jesus Christ plays an integral and central roles in our salvation. * If we speak of marital spirituality we mean that it is through the experience of being married that God intends to make us into the people we are meant to be. * If we speak of ministerial spirituality we pause to reflect how, through the practice of ministry, God is transforming the minister. * If we speak of the spirituality of administration it is how God is transforming me into the person God dreams me to be. Our coming together in faith also has certain "givens" that exist and that we should expect to experience. The first is that we do not walk alone...we are a community of faith. Then, we have to realize that we don't function in ideal situations. Life is a challenge and is far from perfect. To meet these challenges we need to do the best that we can. Our goals and focus, in ministry, is not for itself, or ourselves only, but for the larger purposes of God. It is His will that we seek to accomplish and please. The last aspect, or "given" is that we are all busy people. In spite of our busyness we have to stay focused on being a community of faith that together seeks to cooperate with His plan of salvation for each of us and the world. A parish spirituality is alive and well here at Holy Trinity. It's seen in our youth as well in our Seniors and everyone in between. We all have it, are sharing it, and are celebrating it!!! 3 Summary of Social Committee Meeting August 10, 2016 The Social Committee met on August 10 to start planning for the upcoming Parish Food Fest which will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 3 pm to 6 pm. As last year, the event will be held in the gym so there will be adequate parking. At this time we will have lot of ono Hawaiian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Italian. Portuguese, Irish, German and American food. If anyone wants to join us, we are eager to add other ethnic booths, such as Mexican, Filipino, Thai, etc. We are also looking for someone to help the Portuguese booth by making some Portuguese bean soup. Baked goods, water, cola, diet cola and Sprite are welcomed donations. The drinks can be brought to the Church Office during office hours and baked goods can be brought in the on the day of Food Fest. Any donation of time, talent or goods are greatly appreciated. Please call Ann Jones at or Patti Dau at the Church Office, if you have any questions. We will be selling script before and after all Masses starting on September 18 and continuing on until the event. Each script will be $1.00 and the tastings will be between $2.00 and $3.00. In the past, we have used the money generated from our event to purchase new tables and chairs for parish use in the gym. We also helped purchase the newly installed fence on the property. Your generosity in the past is being enjoyed by the entire parish and we hope to be able to purchase more tables and chairs this year.. We are also buying fans to be used for any parish activities in the gym rather than having to rent them for each event. Announcements will be made regarding additions to our food offerings as we get closer to Food Fest. Please mark your calendars now and plan on attending on October 16. This event is a wonderful way to get to know members of our parish who may attend different Masses than you do or to rekindle friendships made in the past. See you on October 16 Your Social Committee Give Aloha, Foodland s Annual Community Matching Gifts Program We have registered to participate in Give Aloha, Foodland s Annual Community Matching Gifts Program. As you may have heard, they will be opening their newest store on Wednesday, August 31. To celebrate the opening of Foodland Farms at Ala Moana Center, they will donate a portion of sales made during opening week, August 31 to September 6 to this year s Give Aloha matching gifts fund. This means that all participating organizations throughout the state will have the opportunity to receive more in matching gifts! So the more everyone shops at Foodland Farms Ala Moana the greater Foodland s total matching gift will be. So start spreading the word and join us as they celebrate the opening of Foodland Farms Ala Moana and Give Aloha Together we will build a better Hawaii.

Many of our elderly live alone or are alone most of the day. They need volunteers to visit them on a regular basis and may sometimes require rides/ escort services to doctor visits and other pre-approved destinations. If you are interested in being a volunteer, or if you know of an elderly person who can benefit from these services, leave a message for Gloria Zane at the church office or call Maureen Caracciolo, Catholic Charities, Volunteer Coordinator, at ph Catholic Charities will process applications and will conduct a 1 ½ hour training. Volunteers from our parish will essentially become Catholic Charities volunteers assigned to Holy Trinity. We also need Eucharistic Ministers for the homebound, which involves a separate application and training process from our parish. You can be both a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound AND/OR a Catholic Charities Friendly Visitor volunteer. By bringing Holy Communion to the homebound, you will be filling his/her spiritual needs, as well as deepening your relationship.

5 RCIA at Holy Trinity Church Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Aloha, we the Holy Trinity RCIA Family are here to tell you that we are beginning a new Faith Journey for people who want to become Roman Catholics! RCIA begins on September 11, 2016, at 9am, in the RCIA Room, at our Parish Office. During this Faith Journey, we get to tell some of your family who are non-believers the good news that: There is a God He has a Son, and his son s name is Jesus Christ And Scripture says that If we believe in Him, we will have eternal life. And that means that no one will ever die if we believe in Him! That the Catholic Church is over 2000 years old, and we go all the way back to the Apostles. We get to tell them all about our beautiful Catholic traditions: That there is a great cloud of witnesses, the saints, cheering us on, just like it says in the Book of Revelation! And Mary, the Queen of Peace, is praying for us right now. They have all of you to sit beside in church each week, and will help them if they need help. And that there are always people to turn to wherever they are in the world. We have over 230,000 baptized Catholics in Hawaii alone let alone all over the world. But we need YOU: Your job is to tell your family and friends who aren t Catholics, that Holy Trinity has a fantastic RCIA program that meets each week during the 9:00 Mass for just one hour. Your job is to give them a brochure and tell them they can call the Holy Trinity office for an application form or go online to our website and download a printable application; or see the deacon after Mass for an application. Our job has already started. We re praying for you to use exactly the right words to tell them. God bless each and every one of you! The donation is made at the checkout and our number is NO SPECIAL DUTY We have received notification from the Police Department that there will be no Special Duty Officers available from Thursday, September 1 to Saturday, September 10. This means that there will be no police officers to direct traffic those days.

6 STEWARDSHIP CORNER STEWARDSHIP AT HOLY TRINITY CHURCH Lesson 11 Stewardship of Religious Vocations A vocation to the religious life is truly a gift from God. Stewards have an obligation to foster religious vocations. While a religious vocation is a gift from God to an individual, it is also a gift from God to our whole community. Being called to religious life; a priest, sister or deacon takes discernment and we can all help. If we know of an individual with vocation potential, encourage them; better yet pray for them. Congratulations! Parishioners donated $2,704 in 2016 for the Seminarian Fund. We more than doubled the $1,265 donated in Thank you for your generosity.
