3 INFANT BAPTISMS The Sacrament is celebrated on Sunday at 1:15 PM. by appointment only. A Pre-Baptism Catechetical Session is required for parents. Godparents (Sponsors) must be practicing Catholics and at least 14 years of age. A practicing non-catholic Christian may act as a witness along with a Catholic Sponsor. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS We welcome all unbaptized individuals, friends, family members and neighbors who are not Roman Catholic Christians or those individuals within the Catholic Tradition who may have never received the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist or Confirmation to participate in our parish program for adult Christian Initiation at this time. This program is also ideal for baptized Christians of other Christian denominations who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. If you know of someone who may wish to experience the richness of our Catholic Faith and who desires to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church, please contact Barbara Bunag at MATRIMONY The Sacrament of Matrimony requires an extensive period of preparation. Contact must be made with Parish Center one year in advance. MINISTRY TO THE SICK The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and the anointing of the sick is available to our parish sick and shut-ins upon request. Please inform the parish concerning the needs of the sick by calling the Parish Office. If any member of the parish is hospitalized, please notify the Parish Office immediately so that a member of the Pastoral Staff may visit. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE MEMBERS OF OUR PARISH FAMILY WHO ARE SICK AS WELL AS THOSE MEMBERS WHO ARE SERVING IN THE ARMED FORCES Dear Brothers and Sisters, On the day of Pentecost, the fire of the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles gathered with that first Community in Jerusalem. Along with the Women Disciples and Our Lady, these first Christians experienced the outpouring of the seven fold gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit empowered them to go forth and proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. From this small community of maybe 120 people the Church has grown to a membership of 1.2 Billion people. The Holy Spirit is still active in the Church of today. We are all disciples of the Risen Christ and we are called by our Baptism to evangelize our brothers and sisters to come to know, love and serve the Lord Jesus. Pentecost is called the Birthday of the Church because the disciples went out of the Upper Room to make disciples of all nations. Our mission field is vast but the Spirit of God abides with us and empowers us to live the Gospel. In Christ, Fr. 4 St. Bartholomew School 470 Ryders Lane East Brunswick, NJ Tel Fax Pentecost Sunday, May 20, 2018 May 19, 2018 Dear Parents and Guardians and Parishioners, I hope all our wonderful mothers enjoyed a special Mother s Day. We celebrated the Crowning of Mary as a school family last Friday. Last week, our middle school students experienced the Rutgers Science Bus. Our Drama Club enjoyed and learned from Master Teacher, Jason Gotay, and entertained our new families and students in Pre-K-Grade 2. Everyone participated in the Race for Education to support our school as plans are underway for the upcoming school year. Our teachers and staff were treated to treats each day last week as we celebrated Teacher Appreciation. We thank the Home School Association, Mrs. Brautigan, and Mrs. Iadevaia for the delicious lunches, breakfast, and snacks. Surviving a Loss This program is a 6 week spiritually based bereavement group that will begin May 30th at Frances E. Parker in Highland Park. The group will be held on Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 3 pm. There is no cost for the program but registration is required. I am a licensed professional counselor and will be cofacilitating the group with Sr. Kathleen Dullea. Anyone interested in registering for the program and/or to receive additional information can contact me, Kathleen Ostertag at This Wednesday, students in Grades K-5 enjoyed a presentation by The Grand Falloons about recycling and taking care of the environment. Tonight, Saturday, May 19, our Drama Club will present Into the Woods at 7:00 pm under the direction of Mrs. McAndrew. Tickets are available at the door. Barnes and Noble Night will be held on May 24 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the East Brunswick Barnes and Noble. Please join us for fun activities! Confirmation for our eighth grade students will be held May 30 at 7:00 pm in the Church with Bishop Checchio presiding. Congratulations to Marcus Justiniani on receiving the award for the Respect Life poster contest and Aliyah Schmidt for receiving an award for her Letter about Literature. We are so proud of our talented students! There will be an 11:30 am dismissal on May 25 and school is closed on May 28 in honor of Memorial Day. This week we will continue our discussion on the First Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians. All parishioners are welcome to attend. This week we welcomed three new members to the group from the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes. The Bible that I am using for the Class is the Revised English Bible with the Apocrypha (Catholic). 7 St. Vincent DePaul Society St. Bartholomew Conference Pentecost Sunday, May 20, 2018 St Vincent de Paul society has a client who is looking for a full size bed and either a twin bed or futon. Anyone who may be able to help can contact me at Our Lady of Peace 3rd Annual Flea Market Registration for All students must register for Religious Education Classes for the school year by June 30. Forms and Instructions can be found on the Parish Website in the Religious Education header. All students must be from a registered Parish family. New students to the program must provide baptismal information and or transfer information from your prior parish. As a reminder the diocesan policy is that it is a two year preparation for the reception of the sacraments.
