A Pre-Baptism Catechetical Session is required for parents. Godparents (Sponsors) must be practicing Catholics and at least 14 years of age. A practicing non-catholic Christian may act as a witness along with a Catholic Sponsor. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS We welcome all unbaptized individuals, friends, family members and neighbors who are not Roman Catholic Christians or those individuals within the Catholic Tradition who may have never received the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist or Confirmation to participate in our parish program for adult Christian Initiation at this time. This program is also ideal for baptized Christians of other Christian denominations who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. If you know of someone who may wish to experience the richness of our Catholic Faith and who desires to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church, please contact Barbara Bunag at MATRIMONY The Sacrament of Matrimony requires an extensive period of preparation. Contact must be made with Parish Center one year in advance. MINISTRY TO THE SICK The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and the anointing of the sick is available to our parish sick and shut-ins upon request. Please inform the parish concerning the needs of the sick by calling the Parish Office. If any member of the parish is hospitalized, please notify the Parish Office immediately so that a member of the Pastoral Staff may visit. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE MEMBERS OF OUR PARISH FAMILY WHO ARE SICK AS WELL AS THOSE MEMBERS WHO ARE SERVING IN THE ARMED FORCES Dear Brothers and Sisters, Today marks the 44 th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court on the issue of Abortion. The Court ruled 7-2 that a right to privacy under the Due Process Clause of the 14 th Amendment extended to a woman s decision to have an abortion, but that this right must be balanced against the State s in regulating abortions; protecting women s health and protecting the potentiality of Human Life. In disallowing many states and federal restrictions on abortion in the United States, Roe v. Wade prompted a national debate that continues today about issues including whether, and to what extent abortion should be legal, who should decide the legality of abortion, and what the role should be of religious and moral views in the political sphere. Roe v. Wade reshaped our national politics, dividing most of the American people into pro-life and pro-choice camps. The teaching of the Catholic Church is that abortion is a grave offense against God. Human life is a gift from God, our Creator, and is sacred from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death. Catholics must never procure or participate in the willful killing of an unborn child. Pope Francis has emphasized the Mercy of God in the face of the evil that humans do against the love of God and the sacredness of life let us pray for an end to abortion and work to protect the sacredness of human life. It is important for us to also have the loan of textbook and transportation forms returned in a timely manner. Catholic Schools Week begins on Sunday, January 29, with the 10:00 am Mass. The Pancake Breakfast will take place after the 8:00 and 10:00 am Masses. Open Houses will take place Sunday, January 29, from 11:30 am-2:30 pm and on Friday, February 3, from 9:30-10:30 am and 12:15-1:15 pm. Please spread the good news about our school as you are our best advertisement about the wonderful education we offer. We have many outstanding events planned as we celebrate our school, including a presentation by the George Street Playhouse, School Spirit Day Faculty vs Eighth Grade Volleyball Game, Penny Wars and Village of 100 to support Catholic Charities, Literacy Fair, and more. As Bishop Checchio said in his letter this week, Catholic school is a place where every child is loved and nurtured in an environment that is accepting and empowering. Thank you for your support. Our Pre-K and Kindergarten students received a presentation on correct handwashing technique from a representative of St. Peter s University Hospital. Congratulations to our second grade students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Congratulations also to Antonia Iadevaia and Vivianna Menist for having their posters chosen as winners for our school about the value of Catholic education in forming good citizens. Bishop Checchio also stated that the culture of service is infused at all grade levels in our school. One of our seventh grade students has had a recurrence of Hodgkins Lymphoma. His birthday was on January 18, so students dressed down for a donation in order to support his family during this difficult time. If parishioners would like to support the student and his family during this difficult time, prayer cards created by our seventh grade students will be available for a donation on Sunday, January 29. Online applications must be completed (including supporting documentation) by no later than Friday, March 31, Applications are available in English and Spanish. Families that need assistance completing the online application, or need access to the technology to apply, may register for one of the five Application Workshops, which will be held in four locations within the Diocese in February and March by going to and following the Workshops link. From the Music Ministry- An Invitation- Have you spent the past several weeks or months thinking about joining the Adult Choir? Well, now that Christmas Day has passed and 2017 is upon us, it is now once again a perfect time to join! All voice parts are welcome, and anyone from high school freshman and older may join. The tea, which was sold out this year, allowed us to adopt several families over the holidays. The first family was a military family with a very sick little boy that needed equipment. The second military family was going through a major transition in their lives and needed financial assistance. We also adopted one local family in need, filling many of their Christmas wishes.
