This collection is exclusively for the benefit of our 26 retired priests, as well as for our active priests upon their retirement. 3 INFANT BAPTISMS The Sacrament is celebrated on Sunday at 1:15 PM. by appointment only. A Pre-Baptism Catechetical Session is required for parents. Godparents (Sponsors) must be practicing Catholics and at least 14 years of age. A practicing non-catholic Christian may act as a witness along with a Catholic Sponsor. Fourth Sunday of Lent, March 26, 2017 Page 3 RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS We welcome all unbaptized individuals, friends, family members and neighbors who are not Roman Catholic Christians or those individuals within the Catholic Tradition who may have never received the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist or Confirmation to participate in our parish program for adult Christian Initiation at this time. This program is also ideal for baptized Christians of other Christian denominations who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. If you know of someone who may wish to experience the richness of our Catholic Faith and who desires to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church, please contact Barbara Bunag at MATRIMONY The Sacrament of Matrimony requires an extensive period of preparation. Contact must be made with Parish Center one year in advance. MINISTRY TO THE SICK The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and the anointing of the sick is available to our parish sick and shut-ins upon request. Please inform the parish concerning the needs of the sick by calling the Parish Office. If any member of the parish is hospitalized, please notify the Parish Office immediately so that a member of the Pastoral Staff may visit. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE MEMBERS OF OUR PARISH FAMILY WHO ARE SICK AS WELL AS THOSE MEMBERS WHO ARE SERVING IN THE ARMED FORCES Dear Brothers and Sisters, The fourth Sunday of Lent is called Laetare Sunday the Sunday of Joy. On this Sunday the Church pauses to reflect on the Joy of the Paschal Feast of Easter. For the sake of the joy that lay beyond it, Christ endured the Cross for our salvation. May these latter days of our Lenten retreat prepare our hearts to receive the joy of the Risen Christ. This Tuesday, March 28 th, is our Family Penance Service. We will gather in the Church at 7pm. to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Parish Council has planned this evening as a time of prayer and reflection centered on the relationship between family and faith. May the Mercy of God free us from sin and heal our families. There will be a number of priests available for confessions. Please come and receive the grace of the Sacrament. For the past year our parish has been sponsoring an egiving program through Faith Direct. Thank you to all of our parishioners who are using our Faith Direct egiving program. This is the most cost-effective way to receive your donations. I do encourage the use of this program because it provides our members a more efficient way to support the parish. If you would like to sign up for egiving, please go to our website stbartseb.com and go to the egiving tab to set up an account. Our weekly collection amount now includes donations made through Faith Direct. Let us continue to pray for one another. Our students and staff were treated to beautiful Irish music as Mr. O Keefe played the bagpipes. Please see our Facebook page and newsletter for pictures. The second grade students attended a mini-retreat on Wednesday evening as they prepare for First Communion. Our Science Fair was a great success! Congratulations to student scientists and teachers who worked very hard on this event. We will hold an Open House on Sunday, March 26, from 11:00 am-2:00 pm. Please spread the wonderful news about our school to anyone who may be interested in the outstanding Catholic education offered at our school! If you refer a student who enrolls and attends the upcoming school year, you will receive $ off your tuition. Thank you for your support. The Fashion First Sewing Club is off to a successful start! Please see the communication envelope for information about Spring Track and Bricks 4 Kidz Spring Session. Also, please support our Super 50/50 raffle. The drawing will take place on April 7. We have become a beta test school for IXL. Information will be coming home for students in Grades 3-8 within the next two weeks. Terra Nova testing will be held April 3-7. Students should arrive to school by 7:30 am as testing may begin promptly at the start of the first period. Please be sure that students are well-rested and have eaten a nutritious breakfast. Thank you for all you do to support our students and our wonderful school. Please encourage your students to participate in our Lenten service project, Operation Rice Bowl. Principal St. Vincent DePaul Society St. Bartholomew Conference Thank you so much for your donations to our SVDP food pantry in March. Your continued generosity is much appreciated by the SVDP Society and the families we assist. Our monthly food pantry collection for April will not be on the third weekend of the month as usual, due to Easter. We will be accepting donations on the second weekend of April (4/8 & 9 Palm Sunday Weekend). The bags for food donations will be in the Narthex on the weekend of April 1 & 2. Please note this change to our schedule. We are grateful to all those parishioners who remember us every month. St. Vincent de Paul Society St. Bartholomew Conference New Members Needed! Last week at all the Masses we spoke a bit about the St. Vincent de Paul conference here at St. Bart s what we do and those we assist and asked for your help. We'd like to extend a great big THANKS to all who stopped by to chat with us after the Masses last weekend! Your response is so encouraging and greatly appreciated! As we mentioned, we will be holding an information session within the next couple of weeks and will contact everyone who left an address or phone number. At this session, we'll explain a bit more about what we do and offer specific ways that you can help. If you missed us in the narthex last week, it's not too late just give us a call or send us an and we'll invite you to the session. We can be reached at or by at info@ebsvdp.org. If getting involved and helping others is something you've been meaning to do, please consider this an invitation. Spirit of St. Vincent God loves the poor, consequently, He loves those who love the poor; for, when we truly love someone, we have an affec on for his friends and for his servants in this way, we have good reason to hope that, for love of them, God will love us. Come then let s devote ourselves with renewed love to serve persons who are poor, and even to seek out those who are the poorest and most abandoned; let s acknowledge before God that they re our lords and masters and that we re unworthy of rendering them our li le services.
