3 INFANT BAPTISMS The Sacrament is celebrated on Sunday at 1:15 PM. by appointment only. A Pre-Baptism Catechetical Session is required for parents. Godparents (Sponsors) must be practicing Catholics and at least 14 years of age. A practicing non-catholic Christian may act as a witness along with a Catholic Sponsor. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS We welcome all unbaptized individuals, friends, family members and neighbors who are not Roman Catholic Christians or those individuals within the Catholic Tradition who may have never received the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist or Confirmation to participate in our parish program for adult Christian Initiation at this time. This program is also ideal for baptized Christians of other Christian denominations who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. If you know of someone who may wish to experience the richness of our Catholic Faith and who desires to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church, please contact Barbara Bunag at MATRIMONY The Sacrament of Matrimony requires an extensive period of preparation. Contact must be made with Parish Center one year in advance. MINISTRY TO THE SICK The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and the anointing of the sick is available to our parish sick and shut-ins upon request. Please inform the parish concerning the needs of the sick by calling the Parish Office. If any member of the parish is hospitalized, please notify the Parish Office immediately so that a member of the Pastoral Staff may visit. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE MEMBERS OF OUR PARISH FAMILY WHO ARE SICK AS WELL AS THOSE MEMBERS WHO ARE SERVING IN THE ARMED FORCES Dear Brothers and Sisters, As the Season of Lent approaches this would be an excellent Sunday to consider how you are going to enter into this time of preparation for the celebration of Easter. The Church bids us to take up the penitential practices of prayer, fasting, and the giving of alms, (charity). Our focus should be on the Cross, the symbol of Christ's sacrificial love. Not so much what one is giving up, but, rather, how to die to self in order that Christ may live in me. When you receive the mark of the ashes on your forehead and hear the minister say, "Remember that you are dust, and unto dust you shall return," this statement is not meant as a curse, it is a statement of our mortal nature. We are men and women of clay and we shall return to the Earth from whence we came. It is Jesus the Christ, who redeems us by His Sacrifice and gives us eternal life. Let us take up the discipline of Lent together, that we may all come to the Glory of the Resurrection through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen. Pax Christi, Fr. Thomas 2019 Bishop s Annual Appeal Help Build a Civilization of Love III Kyle Buckler & Dana Alessi February 23rd & 24th, 2019: $15, Fuel Collection: $ 2, Twenty-four percent $1.7 million dollars of the funds raised by the 2019 Bishop s Annual Appeal is earmarked for Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen. Through more than 100 programs, Catholic Charities serves those most in need of our assistance. If you have yet to make your pledge to this year s Bishop s Annual Appeal, you will have the opportunity to do so the weekend, March 16/17, which has been designated as Bishop s Annual Appeal In-Pew Weekend. Help us reach our target of 100% participation. Every gift, no matter the size, is important and greatly appreciated.

4 St. Vincent DePaul Society St. Bartholomew Conference KNIGHTS KORNER OZANAM MEAL PROGRAM The Ozanam Meal Program Committee will meet on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 7:30 pm in the Parish Center. Our group s mission is to prepare, deliver and serve dinner at the Ozanam Family Shelter on the 2 nd and 4 th Thursday of every month. I extend an invitation to any parishioner who would like to help out with this effort. New members are always welcomed! The pantry is in need of the following items: Apple juice, coffee, cereal, jelly, peanut butter, oatmeal (reg. & instant), toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, dish detergent, laundry detergent, soap, cookies, crackers, pudding snack packs, pancake syrup, pancake mix, rice instant mashed potatoes, canned pasta, tuna, pasta sauce, deodorant, shampoo This collection is held on the third weekend of every month. We appreciate any support in terms of food or monetary donations that you can give us. Please refrain from leaving food donations in the Narthax or the school cafeteria at other times of the month. Owen C., a sixth grade student, will present to the school community about his trip last summer to Uganda with his mother and Godmother, the CRS Country Representative for Uganda. Uganda is one of the countries featured in Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl, and we will participate in in Operation Rice Bowl again this Lent. Boxes will be coming home, so please encourage participation as we pray, fast, learn, and give this Lenten season. Our Mother/Son Laser Tag Event was a great success! Thank you, Mrs. Russo, for coordinating this event. Our fourth grade students participated in a Project-Based Learning experience about Ellis Island and did a wonderful simulation with their parents/guardians. The dentist visited our Pre-K to teach students about dental health and our teachers also created projects with our students on the topic. Our next Story Series will be held on Monday, March 4, beginning at 10:45 am, for students entering or considering our Pre-K and Kindergarten Programs. DINE TO DONATE DURING LENT!!
