3 INFANT BAPTISMS Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, January 20, 2019 The Sacrament is celebrated on Sunday at 1:15 PM. by appointment only. A Pre-Baptism Catechetical Session is required for parents. Godparents (Sponsors) must be practicing Catholics and at least 14 years of age. A practicing non-catholic Christian may act as a witness along with a Catholic Sponsor. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS We welcome all unbaptized individuals, friends, family members and neighbors who are not Roman Catholic Christians or those individuals within the Catholic Tradition who may have never received the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist or Confirmation to participate in our parish program for adult Christian Initiation at this time. This program is also ideal for baptized Christians of other Christian denominations who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. If you know of someone who may wish to experience the richness of our Catholic Faith and who desires to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church, please contact Barbara Bunag at MATRIMONY The Sacrament of Matrimony requires an extensive period of preparation. Contact must be made with Parish Center one year in advance. Dear Brothers and Sisters, There was a Wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. With these words Saint John the Evangelist opens one of the most beautiful accounts in the New Testament. Only in the Gospel of John do we encounter the extraordinary miracle of the changing of the water into wine. At the request of His Mother, Jesus performs this miracle that announces the beginning of His public ministry and the Coming of the Reign of God. At Cana, the new wine that is poured out prefigures the Blood of Christ which will be poured out for our salvation. Our Lady s complete trust in Her Son is our model for Christian Discipleship. Do Whatever He tells you, should be our motto for the New Year Nest Sunday, January 27 th, marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. There will be an Open House immediately following the 10am Mass. Breakfast will be served in the Parish Hall. Please come and support our excellent Catholic School. MINISTRY TO THE SICK The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and the anointing of the sick is available to our parish sick and shut-ins upon request. Please inform the parish concerning the needs of the sick by calling the Parish Office. If any member of the parish is hospitalized, please notify the Parish Office immediately so that a member of the Pastoral Staff may visit. 5 St. Bartholomew School 470 Ryders Lane East Brunswick, NJ Tel Fax January 19, 2019 Dear Parents and Guardians and Parishioners, Fourth grade will travel to Ellis Island on January 22 as part of their project on immigration. January 24 is a dress down for donation to the Polar Bear Plunge. Please see the flyer in the Communication Envelope for details. Thank you, Mr. O Grady, for supporting us with this event. The second marking period closes on January 25. Please check Power School and contact teachers with any questions or concerns. Catholic Schools Week begins with the 10:00 am Mass on January 27. Students should dress in formal uniform for the Mass and will receive a dress down pass if they do so. An Open House follows beginning at 11:30 am and ending at 2:00 pm. Please plan to attend the Mass and spread the word about our wonderful Catholic education. There will be a Pancake Breakfast after the 8:00 and 10:00 am Masses. A second Open House will be held on Friday, February 1, from 9:30-10:30 am and 12:15-1:15 pm. Monday of Catholic Schools Week, students will participate in a Step-up Day where they will move up a grade for a class period to experience the next grade level. Tuesday of CSW is School Spirit Day. Students may dress down in green and gold and will attend the 8 th Grade vs Faculty Volleyball Game. The Literacy Fair will be held on Wednesday of CSW beginning at 7:00 pm. Students in Grades K-8 will be visited by author/illustrator Michael Dooling. His books are available for purchase. Please see the communication envelope. On Friday, please join us for school Mass at 8:30 am and Open House from 9:30-10:30 am and 12:15-1:15 pm. Please invite friends who may be interested in our school to the Open Houses. Candlemas will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday along with Family Bingo Night. Please send in donations of canned goods for a special service project during Catholic Schools Week. Our Mentors will be judged on a creation they build using canned goods, and the cans will then be donated to our Food Pantry. Currently, Shop Rite is having their Can Can Sale, and our students are asked to donate 2 cans each. Thank you for your participation. Our next meeting is February 13. The group is open to LGBT adults, 18 and over, and their families. All are welcome for faith sharing, prayer, conversation and support.
