3 From the Pastor & Liturgy FROM THE PASTOR Transition at Sacred Heart Some people have been asking about Deacon Sam Basta and Father John Madigan, and what they will be doing when they come to Sacred Heart. Deacon Basta will be the Pastoral Coordinator which is a deacon, religious or lay ecclesial minister appointed by the Archbishop under the supervision of a priest moderator and entrusted with the day-to-day leadership of a parish. Father John Madigan will be the Parish Priest which is a priest appointed by the Archbishop to provide priestly ministry in a particular parish in collaboration with the pastor or pastoral coordinator. We are putting a transition team in place, and the archdiocese is offering assistance to the Parish Staff and to the Transition Team. Please keep our parish in your prayers during these days of change. As I mentioned in my announcement that said I was retiring (you can read it on the parish website if you have not already done so), I said that I wanted to be available to help take care of my brother and sister-in-law who are both ill. I plan on keeping my home here in Bellevue and going to Arkansas where my family lives when needed. Please keep my brother and his wife, Tom and Bobbie, in your prayers. Let us continue to work together to build up the Kingdom of God here at Sacred Heart. the relics will be from 1 0 until 4:30 All are w EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION ON SUNDAY There will be a procession with the Blessed Sacrament after the 11 AM Mass (beginning about noon) on Sunday (June 3) as we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. LAUREAT M BACCALAUREATE MASS ON THURSDAY We will celebrate Mass with the 8th grade graduates of our parish school on Thursday, June 7, at 9 AM. Graduation will be on Thursday at 5 PM and will be held in the church as well. Everyone is welcome to come for the Mass and/or graduation. SHS ALUMNI MASS NEXT SUNDAY Alumni of Sacred Heart School are invited to the Alumni Mass next Sunday, June 10, at 11 AM. All alumni will be recognized and will receive a blessing. Also the distinguished alumni will be recognized and receive a college scholarship. SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS NEXT WEEKEND Next weekend, we will celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, the patron of our parish. Since this is our patronal feast, we will transfer the feast from Friday, June 8, to the weekend. The readings will be the readings for the Sacred Heart (not for the Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time). One of the most beloved aspects of our Catholic tradition is our devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In honoring the Sacred Heart, we are honoring the compassion and love of Christ: his human heart, moved with pity for his flock, his divine heart, pierced for the sins of his people. From the heart of Christ, pierced by the soldier s lance, blood and water poured out, the wellspring of the Church s Sacraments [Preface for the Sacred Heart]. While saints and mystics, notably the thirteenth century Benedictine St. Gertrude, have long found the heart of Christ a rich subject matter for meditation, it was not until the seventeenth century, in France, that devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus began to take the form we know today. [T]he revelations of the Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a religious of the Visitation order, in the French town of Paray-le-Monial, France, must have come as a complete and wonderful surprise. The devotion spread, and the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was added to the universal calendar in On the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we give thanks to God for the infinite love of Christ, represented by the image of his heart on fire with love. Through our prayer, we also seek to make reparation for the ways that love has been rejected by human beings. This is why in the familiar image, Christ s heart is pierced and surrounded with thorns. (2018 Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons, and s, ) There will be Sacred Heart holy cards at the statue of the Sacred Heart for those who want to take one. Also, there will be additional images of the Sacred Heart in the windows around the church.

St. Francis Mission, our sister parish, has gifted Sacred Heart with a Star Quilt, in appreciation of the hospitality shown to Fr. Kubicki during his visit with us. CONNOLE On May 18, 1968 I had the great joy and privilege of being ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Seattle. Being ordained a priest for 50 years has been a constant source of joy and I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve God s people. I will be offering a Eucharist of Thanksgiving at Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue for these 50 years of ministry, on June 24th at 2pm. Shades of Praise Choir will provide the music and a reception will follow. It is my hope that you can join me on this day and celebrate with me at this Thanksgiving Eucharist. God Bless you all, Fr. Claire is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for the Sacred Heath School Class of 2014! She will receive a $500 check courtesy of United Business Machines and the George and Martha Gregg family to use next year at the University of Notre Dame where she will be attending. She will also receive special recognition at Sacred Heart School and at the Alumni Mass on Sunday, June 11am. Please join us next Sunday for this special Mass to celebrate all of our Sacred Heart community graduates!
