3 From the Pastor & Liturgy FROM THE PASTOR VACATION TIME Many folks are on vacation during the summer. Check out masstimes.org to find a parish where you will vacation so you can attend Mass. Remember also to continue your pledge fulfillment to Sacred Heart whenever you are traveling. Have a great trip wherever you will go. PILGRIMAGE TO ROME We still have a few spaces available for our Pilgrimage to Rome (and Assisi and Sienna) from October I am excited to be able to participate in the Extraordinary Year of Mercy in Rome which will include an audience with Pope Francis and visiting the four major basilicas in Rome and going through the holy doors in each basilica. Contact Mary Dickins at the Parish Office or check our parish website for more information and to register. I hope that more of our parishioners will take this opportunity to visit Rome during this holy year. Let us continue to work together to build up the Kingdom of God here at Sacred Heart. MASS ON FRIDAY JULY 1 Friday, July 1, is the first Friday of the month; we will have Mass at 6:30 AM and at 8:45 AM. You Can Make a Difference for Sacred Heart School with Box Tops! NEW MASS SCHEDULE BEGINS NEXT WEEKEND Our new weekend Mass schedule will begins next weekend, July 2-3, 2016: Saturday at 5 PM, Sunday at 8:30 AM and 11 AM. Sunday, June 26, will be the last 5 PM Sunday Mass until September 11. There is more information about the schedule on the parish website: New Weekend Mass Schedule. SOLEMNITY OF SAINTS PETER AND PAUL Every year, we commemorate Sts. Peter and Paul, martyred around the year 64 AD during Nero s persecution following the Great Fire of Rome. Tradition says that Peter fled Rome to avoid arrest and saw Jesus on the road. Where are you going, Lord, Peter asked. Jesus replied, I am going to Rome to be crucified again. Peter turned back and was crucified upside down because he felt unworthy to meet his death the same way as Christ. Paul was arrested in Jerusalem and was sent to Rome, where he was placed under house arrest. He was slain by beheading, because as a Roman citizen he could not be subjected to the indignity of crucifixion. (2016 Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons, and Weekdays, 239) We will celebrate the solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul on Wednesday, June 29. VACATION BIBLE CAMP THIS WEEK Our parish s annual Vacation Bible Camp will be held Monday through Thursday this week. Creation Care Kids is the theme, based on Pope Francis Encyclical: Laudato Si. Since the focus is on creation, most of the sessions will be held outside. VBC will end with Mass on Thursday, June 30, at 11 AM in the Father Connole courtyard (south of the church) we will have plenty of seating for adults who attend Mass. Everyone is invited to join the campers for lunch after Mass. FLOWER DONATIONS Flowers were donated recently in observance of this year s graduates of Sacred Heart School by their parents and in memory of Lillian Kastner by her family. If you would like to make a donation for flowers in the church, please contact the Parish Office.

Just like the morning session, we will have up to students and it will run for 3 hours a day, every day of the week. The afternoon program will start at 12:10 and end at 3:10 PM. 6 Administration & Stewardship 2016 PETER S PENCE COLLECTION This weekend, June 25-26, we take up the annual Peter s Pence special collection. United with more than 1 billion Catholics worldwide who participate in the collection, we have a chance to support the spiritual and charitable works of the Holy Father, Pope Francis. This year s theme is Be a Witness of Charity. See the special insert in today s bulletin for more information. Please contribute generously next weekend using the special collection envelope found in this month s offering envelope packet. Extra envelopes are in the pews this weekend. Place your Peter s Pence envelope in the regular collection along with your offerings to the parish. To assist our transfer of these funds, please make your check payable to Sacred Heart Parish. This special collection is one of four taken up each year. It s an opportunity to give from the other half of your financial stewardship, the percent set aside for other charities. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another s feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do. (John 13:14-15) ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL 2016 The 2016 Annual Catholic Appeal campaign is still underway in our parish. Thank you to those parish households who have made a pledge. However, we have not yet met our goal in dollars or in participation. Every gift, no matter the amount, is gratefully appreciated and vital if we are to make our goal of $210,000. If you have not yet done so, the important thing is that your household participate in some way in this year s campaign. Thank you for being a steward of God s gifts. STAFF TRANSITIONS Theresa Galvez is the new Pastoral Assistant for Liturgical Music at Sacred Heart Parish. Theresa served in a similar capacity at St. Anthony Parish in Renton for the past five years. She will begin the first week of July and will be at Masses for the first time on July Christine Kerr is the new Administrative Assistant for Giving and Data at Sacred Heart Parish. Christine and her family are parishioners at Sacred Heart. Her children attend Sacred Heart School where she has been very active in several important volunteer leadership roles.
