3 From the Pastor & Liturgy FROM THE PASTOR Annual Catholic Appeal Thanks to everyone who has already made a pledge and/or payment to this year s Annual Catholic Appeal. We are moving along to our parish goal. We are hoping that everyone will participate this year. You can bring your pledge envelope to Mass and place it in the offering basket, or mail it to the archdiocese, or contribute online. Let us together Build a Future Full of Hope. Let us continue to work together to build up the Kingdom of God here at Sacred Heart. the relics will be from 1 0 AM until 4:30 P MEMORIAL OF SAINT CHRISTOPHER MAGALLANES Monday, May 21, is the memorial of Saint Christopher Magallanes who was a Mexican priest whose years of ministry coincided with an extreme anticlerical era in Mexico. He was falsely accused of promoting rebellion and arrested while on his way to celebrate Mass. Christopher was killed without trial after absolving his executioners, saying, I die innocent, and ask God that my blood may serve to unite my Mexican brethren. He and his companions died between 1915 and He was canonized by Pope John Paul II on May 21, 2000, along with twentyone priests and three laymen, also martyred for resisting the anti-catholic Mexican government of the 1920s. There are multiple activities all around the campus. Please pay attention to parking instructions on Friday due to Field Day. Thanks. HELPING THOSE WHO COME TO SACRED HEART FOR ASSISTANCE Our parish St. Vincent de Paul Conference is equipped to assist individuals, couples and families who live within our parish boundaries with assistance. A member of St. Vincent de Paul is available Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 AM to 11 AM to assist people in need. Those seeking assistance can come to the Parish Office reception area to meet with a Vincentian. If you are interested in helping those who come to our parish for assistance, you can join the St. Vincent de Paul Society. This is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to those who come to our parish seeking assistance. COME, HOLY SPIRIT Our tradition at Sacred Heart is to pray Pentecost Mass in a variety of languages. You can read the translation of the second reading and the intercessions in the worship aid. Let us raise our many voices in thanksgiving to the Holy Spirit. There will be a Pentecost celebration for all ages on the church plaza from 9:30-11:00 AM on Sunday. Come and enjoy the gifts of the Holy Spirit. CONFIRMATION MASS NEXT SATURDAY We will celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation next Saturday, May 26, at the 5 PM Mass. In addition to our parish candidates for confirmation, there will be candidates from St. Madeleine Sophie with us as well. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will bestow abundant gifts on those to be confirmed. There will be a reception for the newly confirmed after Mass. HOLY TRINITY NEXT WEEKEND Next weekend, we will celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity at all Masses. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Christians who use this phrase repeatedly could easily lose sight of the powerful mystery it expresses. The Scriptures [for Trinity Sunday] call for reflection on this central belief of Christianity: the Trinity. One of the greatest gifts of the Christian faith is the dogma of the triune God: God is three [tri] in one [une]. Christians name God as a Trinity of Father, Son, and Spirit, but only in light of Jesus Christ does such language and insight fully emerge. (2018 Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons, and Weekdays, 224) FUNERAL MASS FOR ROSE HILL There will be a Funeral (outside of Mass) for Rose Hill on Saturday, July 14 th at 11am. Rose was one of our parish centenarians. FLOWER DONATION Flowers were donated last weekend in memory of Jorge Pereira by his family. If you would like to donate flowers for a memorial or some other occasion, please contact the Parish Office.

VINCENT DE PAUL We receive clients who need help with rent, gas, groceries, every Mon. Weds. & Fri. in the Sacred Heart office. Helping them with rent, food, and gas. To do this we need your help! 5 Youth & Young Adult Ministry Sacred Heart Parish Youth Migrant Project August 19-24, 2018 Be sure to spread the word to your friends and get your forms in by July 1st. The Youth Migrant Project is a summer long experience that provides current junior high youth (incoming grades 6, 7, 8) a unique opportunity to live in community and be of service to migrant families in the Skagit Valley. Parish youth groups serve for a week at a time throughout June, July and August. Sacred Heart s week is August 19-24th.Participant jobs include: assisting in the day care centers, working at the Tri-Parish Food Bank, and visiting the migrant camps. A participant s day also includes prayer, community building, chores, and education about the needs of the poor. Info: jkress@sacredheart.org Sacred Heart School Congratulations to Claire Russell! Claire is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for the SHS Class of 2014! She will receive a $500 check courtesy of United Business Machines and the George and Martha Gregg family to use next year at the University of Notre Dame where she will be attending. She will also receive special recognition at Sacred Heart School and at the Alumni Mass on Sunday, June 11am. Please join us for this Alumni Mass to celebrate all of our graduates! 6 Administration & Stewardship ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL 2018 COMMITMENT SUNDAYS MAY 6 MAY 13 MAY 20 What is the Annual Catholic Appeal? The Annual Catholic Appeal is our chance to participate in the ministry of the wider Church in Western Washington the Archdiocese of Seattle. The Archdiocese serves 19 counties covering nearly 30,000 square miles, ministering to over 600,000 registered Catholics in 172 parishes and missions. With our pledge to the Annual Catholic Appeal, we help fund over 60 programs and services of the Archdiocese. We work together as a larger Church to accomplish what we cannot do alone as a single parish. What does the Annual Catholic Appeal mean for Sacred Heart Parish? This year, our parish goal for the Annual Catholic Appeal is $213,000. We d like to raise an additional $30,000 over that goal for our Capital Maintenance and Improvement Budget. When we exceed our goal, the overage returns to Sacred Heart in the form of a rebate. Our rebate from the 2017 appeal was almost $40,000. In recent years, we ve used that rebate to accomplish a number of facility improvements. How do we participate? By now you should have received a letter from Archbishop Sartain containing a brochure, pledge card and return envelope. Soon, you will also receive a letter from Fr. Steve with another pledge card and return envelope. Please follow these steps: Complete one of the pledge cards and mail it back right away in one of the return envelopes. Or bring your completed pledge card in the return envelope to Mass during the month of May and place it in the offering basket. Or make a pledge on-line at seattlearchdiocese.org. There s a link on our parish website, sacredheart.org. No matter how you pledge, be sure to indicate that your gift is for Sacred Heart, Bellevue. And don t forget, your pledge can be paid over a ten month period by cash, check, EFT, debit/credit card, or stock. The archdiocese will send reminders. How much should we give? Last year at Sacred Heart, 401 parish households gave an average of $626 to the Annual Catholic Appeal. Our goal this year is to increase the number of parish households that pledge to the appeal. If you have not pledged before, this is the year to start, and we would encourage an initial gift of at least $365 or $1 a day for the ministries of the Catholic Church in Western Washington. However, every pledge, big or small, is gratefully received, deeply appreciated, and vital if we are to make our goal. The important thing is that every household participate.
