ANOINTING OF THE SICK A communal celebration is held twice yearly. In case of serious illness, impending surgery or advanced age, please contact the parish office or Fr. Johnson. The sacrament should not be delayed until the person is unconscious or in imminent danger of death. FUNERALS Contact Fr. 2 FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR This coming week we will celebrate two important feasts, All Saints and All Souls. The Solemnity of All Saints on November 1 recalls all those women and men who have turned their lives over to God, who sought his mercy, and heard his Word and lived it out, and who have already entered the blessedness of heaven. We all know men and women in our lives who though not canonized, certainly have entered into the joys of heaven. It is a holy day, as we celebrate the ultimate goal the Christian life, to become a saint. November 2, the Feast of All Souls is the day for the rest of us, all those who though dying in a state of grace, need a little clean-up before entering the heavenly banquet. Scripture tells us It is a good and praiseworthy thing to pray for the dead. As Catholics we have a 2000 year tradition of offering prayers for our deceased, that they might quickly enter into the joys of heaven. (((On Friday evening, November 2nd we will celebrate a special Mass for the faithful departed remembering especially those who have died this past year. Please join us. It promises to be a lovely way to pray for our sisters and brothers who have gone to their rest.))) Finally, I want to encourage you to visit our cemeteries during this month. Let us remember and pray for our loved ones. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord! R. And let perpetual light shine upon them! May they rest in peace! Sincerely, Fr. Johnson ALL SAINTS DAY - THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST Masses at 9:00am and 7:00pm ALL SOULS DAY - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND Mass at 7:00pm At the 7:00pm Mass on All Souls Day, we pray especially for all our parish and family members who have died within the past year. Let us ask God to be with them as they enjoy the blessings of eternal life. PICTURES FOR ALL SOULS DAY November 1st is when we hang our picture boards in the church to display pictures of loved ones who have passed away. If you have submitted pictures in past years they will again be displayed on picture boards in the church. If you would like to add the picture of a family member or friend who has died (and is not already included) please bring that picture to the office by Monday, October 29th. Pictures should be no larger than 5x7 You can them to Juliann Mitchell JSMitch206@aol.com We will mount the picture on display boards and hang them for the month of November. We ask that you consider providing 1 snack for about 80 children during the year. Suggested snacks include: cookies, graham crackers, goldfish, Ritz crackers, fruit snacks etc. we avoid snacks containing peanuts, peanut butter and other tree nuts due to allergies. The New Bethlehem Day Center The New Bethlehem Day Center is excited to announce that 90 families have been placed in permanent housing since the center opened in November Our staff and volunteers work hard to make the families feel welcome, warm and safe while they get back on their feet. If you haven t been to the day center, we encourage you to come visit! We are always in need of volunteers and people to bring meals in the evening. If you are interested in helping, please volunteer@nbpshelter.org. We are also pleased to announce that the campaign to build a permanent, 24/7 shelter for homeless families is very close to being fully funded! Our goal was to raise $1 Million from community donors and we are currently at $950,000! Did you know that $2,175 of that amount came from St. Jude parishioners? Weavers of Love Attention to all Knitters: We have two bins full of beautiful yarns in the Ushers room behind the library in church. As we approach the cold weather, please help yourself to some of these to knit some scarves, hats, gloves, and blankets that will later be donated to different organizations. Matthew 25: 40 BLANKETS FOR EVERGREEN HOSPICE Once again we are requesting a donation of handmade blankets. These blankets can be knitted, crocheted, quilted or made of fleece. They can be a throw size up to a twin bed size. You can place your donated blankets in the large blue bin located in the Ministry Sacristy, which is in the long narrow room located just behind the library in the Narthex. 5 Around the Archdiocese How can I give to the Called to Serve as Christ campaign? Selecting the best gift plan depends on one's personal financial situation and goals. Gifts made by cash, check, credit card or Electronic Fund Withdrawal (EFT) are the most common ways and will allow us to respond to the needs most quickly. Checks should be made payable to the Called to Serve as Christ campaign. Gift intentions are made in good faith and are not legally binding. Archbishop Sartain is encouraging all donors to consider stretching your gift over a three-year period to maximize the total amount of your support. Your commitment can be fulfilled through monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual installments. If you wish, you can give to the campaign gifts of stock, real estate, life insurance and other planned gift opportunities. As tax laws are always changing and everyone s situation is unique, donors are encouraged to consult with financial advisors to determine which method of contributing is most beneficial to them. The archdiocesan Stewardship and Development Office can assist you with making the necessary arrangements for such gifts. This position enjoys a flexible schedule, allowing the bookkeeper to work three full days a week or four to five shorter days per week, for a total of 25 hours weekly. The candidate chosen for this position will be trained by the outgoing bookkeeper and must be available to begin training by no later than December 1, (Earlier dates are possible.) A compensation range of $25 to $35 an hour will be based on experience. This position does not offer health benefits.
