Joseph & Ilona Selyem Holy Week Holy Week is the week which precedes the great feast of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday, It includes the last days of Lent and the beginning of the Easter Triduum. During Holy Week, the Church celebrates the mysteries of salvation accomplished by Christ in the last days of his life on earth, beginning with his messianic entrance into Jerusalem. For this reason, the Easter Triduum, when we celebrate the suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord, is the high point of the liturgical year. The Easter solemnity is to the year what Sunday is to the week. The celebration of the Easter Triduum opens with the evening Mass of the Lord s Supper, reaches its climax in the Easter Vigil, and closes with evening Prayer II on Easter Sunday. 2 Easter Season The seven weeks from Easter to Pentecost are celebrated as one great feast day. St. Athanasius called them the great Sunday. Christians sing the Alleluia during these days in their rejoicing. (GNLY, no. 22) Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Colossians 3:2 Do you put God first in all things? Possessions, money, power, ego can easily become gods to many of us. Do a quick check of what is important to you. Is God at the very top of the list? If not, your priorities need to be re-adjusted. Don t let earthly things become a god before God.
