Look for these after all Masses the weekend after Easter Sunday. Regional Divine Mercy Celebration will be held at St. Patrick Church on Sunday, April 8. All are welcome! Please pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet in the 3 o clock hour everyday of the year. SUFFERING Jesus did not come to do away with suffering or remove it. He came to fill it with his presence. Paul Claudel Pontifical Good Friday Collection Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collections also helps to preserve the sacred shrines. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides humanitarian aid to refugees. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. PLEASE BE GENEROUS. For more information about Christians in the Holy Land, visit Treasures From Our Traditions For many centuries, Christian pilgrims have longed to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, and on Passion Sunday the eyes of the world are on the Via Dolorosa, the Road of Sorrows, in Jerusalem. As soon as it became safe for Christians to worship in public in the fourth century, a way was marked out. It was changed a few times over the years, and today s usual route was sketched by the Franciscans six hundred years ago, although Anglicans and Byzantines have their own unique detours. Friday is the most favored day, although it is crowded then. Almost everyone begins at the Lion s Gate in the Muslim Quarter, and ends at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. It s less than a quarter mile, but it threads its way through crowded markets with souvenir shops and fast-food snacks. There are, just as in your parish church, fourteen stations along the way. The exact spots are not known, but what matters is the pilgrim s unique ability to see even an ordinary road in a teeming city as something more than meets the eye. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Reprinted under OneLicense.net #A Dear Friends, Holy Week includes the last of the 40 days of Lent, the Sacred Paschal Triduum, and Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord. These are the holiest days of year and the annual celebration of the sacred mysteries through which we are saved from sin and death and restored to the glory of the children of God. Today, on Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord, the sacred liturgy begins with this instruction from the priest: Dear friends, since the beginning of Lent until now, we have prepared our hearts by penance and charitable works. Today we gather together to herald with the whole Church the beginning of the celebration of our Lord s Paschal Mystery, that is to say, of his Passion, Death and Resurrection. For it was to accomplish this mystery that he entered his own city of Jerusalem. Therefore, with all faith and devotion, let us commemorate the Lord s entry into the city for our salvation, following his footsteps, so that, being made by his grace partakers of the Cross, we may have a share, also, in his Resurrection and life. On Tuesday of this Holy Week, all the priests in the Archdiocese will gather with Archbishop Kurtz at the altar of the Cathedral Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Louisville. There we will renew the promises of our priestly ordination, and the Archbishop will bless the three Holy Oils that are used throughout the year in the celebration of the sacraments. The Mass will be at 7 p.m. Please join us! On Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday), of the Lord s Supper, we will celebrate a solemn Mass in the evening at 7 p.m. to recall Christ s gifts to the Church of the Holy Eucharist and Priesthood. Then, the Most Blessed Sacrament will be carried to a place of repose and the altar will be stripped and bells silenced signs of the impending grief to come. On Good Friday of the Passion of the Lord, we will meditate on the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus as recorded in the Gospel of John, and then we will adore the Holy Cross on which hung the salvation of the world. Then, in the night of Holy Saturday (8:30 p.m.), we will keep the Vigil of the Resurrection of the Lord. The whole plan of salvation will be unfolded in Holy Scripture, and the sacraments of holy Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist will reveal the glory of the Risen Christ in our midst. Finally, at Mass on Sunday, Easter Sunday, all the baptized will renew the promises of their Baptism so that we may rededicate ourselves to follow Christ in the Holy Catholic Church. But all that lies ahead. For now, let us acclaim Christ! Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, King of Israel. Hosanna in the highest. -Fr. Chandler
