Over these 50 days leading up to Pentecost, it is hard not to be more deeply configured to the Risen Lord if we grew in the practice of our faith during the 40 days of Lent. Perhaps we replaced old tired out ways and habits with fresh ways of being in relationship with our Lord, appreciating our faith, or living with a deeper awareness of our spiritual life. We should also be renewed and inspired by the thousands of people who were received into the Church (three here at St. Luke). Their presence should prompt us to ask: Are there neighbors, spouses, friends, and family members who would benefit from having a personal relationship with Jesus and being part of Church with all the rest of us? Would we benefit by having them journey along with us in faith, at worship, and in our good works, in ministry? Why not invite them in? There is no better time than now! The beauty of Easter remains all around us. Outside, our springtime weather may be rather strange, something almost out of the Book of Revelation, with hail, sleet, snow, squalls, and sunshine happening often within the same hour, without the horsemen and molten sulfur, of course, but inside the light of Christ and the waters of rebirth are visible to us in all their splendor. Absorb it, relish it, appreciate it! We are most grateful to all who under the leadership of Sarina Butler assisted in making a different kind of Parish Transformation not the program, but their making our sanctuary and church come alive with beauty. Offer words of thanks with me to Dee Galbraith, Laura Hogan, Cathie Saunders, and Grace and David Whiting. Fr. Steven also assisted in his time-outs from working on his inspiring homilies of Holy Week. THANK YOU ALL! Back to the OTHER Transformation: This week our 7 th meeting of Parish Transformation is coming up. We ve processed the parish surveys and will do more work with the data in the future. I ve reviewed many of the writein comments you had for the pastor. Thank you once again to all who took the time to complete the survey. We are now looking through the Seven Building Blocks of Transformation, that is, the areas where a parish might concentrate its efforts in Evangelization, Catechesis, Prayer and Worship, Communio, Missionary Spirit, the Call to Holiness, and Spiritual Stewardship. We needed to choose two areas of specialization and the consensus fell to 1) Worship and Prayer and 2) Communio. (Continued on page 5)

3 St. Luke s Domestic Violence Awareness Committee planted dozens of blue pinwheels in front of St. Luke Church as a public reminder that April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Learn more about local observances at Bishop Francis J. Kane will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on the 8th graders of St. Luke Parish on Tuesday, April 19, at 7:00 pm. We look forward to Bishop Kane s visit and ask all parishioners to pray for our 77 Confirmandi and their sponsors and parents in the coming weeks. With a Joy Filled Heart The St. Luke Parish School Board of Specified Jurisdiction (BSJ) has responsibilities to assist the Pastor and the Principal in ensuring the continued excellence, Catholic identity, and vitality of our parish school. Each BSJ member serves on one of the Board s committees. At this time, we are seeking persons interested in serving from in the following areas: Marketing Development Ministry Board meetings are held monthly from September to June, usually on the 3rd Tuesday. Committees meet as needed to accomplish their work. School parents, parishioners, and other interested members of the community may apply. All parish teens are invited to our next Youth Mass today, April 10, at 5:00 pm, followed by a spaghetti dinner and the best Music Trivia Contest ever! Also, space is still available for this summer s Youth Service Trip to Minnesota, as well as the new youth retreat. More info on both trips will be available at the gathering on Sunday. As St. Luke s new youth group plans its upcoming Summer Service Trip to Minnesota, the teen volunteers who will be making the trip are hoping to receive the financial support of St. Luke parishioners next weekend. The youths will be selling stock shares after the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses. Please be generous in making the investment of a lifetime in our parish youths as they devote a week of their lives to help the poor in Minnesota. Parents of our parish s First Communicants will be gathering for a Rosary Making Party this Thursday, April 14, in Waldron Hall. We have a large group this year and are in need of jewelry makers with some experience to help the parents crimp the beads on the rosaries they re making for their children. 5 As seen above, we had a great turnout for our outing to the student-run Café 64 at Triton College on March 29. The Prime Timers will celebrate Spring on our next trip by visiting the Garfield Park Conservatory on Friday, April 29. We are especially anxious to see the Conservatory after its renovation. We ll then have lunch in Forest Park. Please mark your calendars and keep reading the bulletin for more details. Tomorrow (Monday) is bridge day for the Prime Timers. As always, newcomers are welcome to join us in the Hospitality House at noon for a fun afternoon. We play until 2:30 pm. A growing number of parishioners of all ages prayed the Stations of the Cross each Lenten Friday and shared a meatless meal together in Waldron Hall this year. We are all grateful to the priests, deacons, and altar servers who led us in prayer. Communion Visits and Ministry of Care A parish priest or Minister of Care will be happy to visit those who are sick or homebound. Please call the rectory to make arrangements. Baptism Baptisms take place on the first and third Sundays of each month. Preparation meetings are held on the first Monday of every month for the parents of children who will be baptized. Arrangements can be made by calling the rectory. Marriage Couples wishing to be married should call the rectory to set up an appointment with one of the parish priests at least six months in advance of the desired wedding date. Anointing of the Sick Elderly parishioners, those in poor health or who are anticipating surgery can call the rectory to arrange to receive the sacrament of anointing.
