Watts Stewardship of Treasure Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him? ~James 2:5 What is more important being rich in faith or rich in possessions? Society teaches us that possessions are most important. God teaches a different lesson. When we are rich in faith we know that material things really do not matter and we are more willing to share what we have. ~ From the weekend of September 2, 2012 Weekly Giving Goal $16, Actual Weekly Giving , Fiscal Year to Date (Started ) Weekly Giving Goal , Actual Weekly Giving , Goal to Date for Year +/(-) $(21,651.00) ~ We are always very grateful for the sacrifices you make to support the mission, goals, and ministry of St. Luke Church. Thank you for your generosity! 2 WELCOME TO ST. LUKE River Forest, IL

4 Gatherings From the Parish and the Community The St. Luke 125 th Anniversary Celebration Committee Is Looking for Historical Artifacts and Stories As part of this fall s 125 th Anniversary Celebration, parishioner Jim Dooley is looking for anyone who has any stories, pictures, artifacts, or anything else pertaining to the wonderful history of St. Luke Church and Parish. Please contact Jim Dooley at (708) or leave a message at the Parish Rectory at (708) Jim is working on an oral history as well. If you, or someone you know would like to contribute a story (by phone or get together at church, home or wherever convenient), please call Jim or the Rectory to schedule a meeting. 4 9:00 Family Mass The 9:00 Mass every Sunday is our Family Mass, and we encourage all families with young children to attend. On the first three Sundays of each month the Contemporary Choir sings (beginning on September 23), and we offer the Children s Liturgy of the Word. Two groups of children (ages 3-5 and 6-and-up) go to the sacristies where a catechist leads them in prayer and reflection on the day s Scriptures. On the last Sunday such as September 30 the children are invited to come and sit near the altar steps, where a priest, deacon or catechist gives a special homily geared to them. In addition, our Children s Choirs will sing on the fourth Sunday of the month beginning in October. We also invite families to take a turn bringing the bread and wine to the altar during the Offertory. Just notify the usher before Mass that your family would like to do it. All of which, we hope, will help our children and families to receive special blessings as we worship together at the 9:00 Family Mass. WELCOME TO ST. LUKE River Forest, IL Holy Hour Next Saturday The third Saturday of each month is the day for our monthly Holy Hour with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, rosary and Benediction.
