We volunteer for events at our parish. But when life gets hard, the pressure is on, things aren t going our way, do we really believe, do we really put our trust in the Lord? When we live a life of gratitude, being thankful for the gifts we have been given, we really do see that God is providing all that we need. 3 Next Sunday, April 13, is Palm Sunday. At the Saturday 5:00 Mass, palms will be blessed outside the main entrance to the Church. Everyone is invited to gather there and to walk in the procession into Church. At the other Masses we will recall Jesus entry into Jerusalem by holding palm branches and singing a special Entrance Hymn. Holy Week begins just one week from today on Palm Sunday, April 13. The liturgies of Holy Week are the most beautiful of the entire year. We invite and encourage all our parishioners to participate fully, especially in the evening services on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. However, you are also welcome, if you prefer especially families with children to bring the actual rice bowl with the money inside it. During these last two weeks of Lent, may we continue to fast and give, to learn and pray, as we share with our needy brothers and sisters all over the world. Following the evening Mass on Holy Thursday, April 17, we will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until Midnight. To be assured that people will be present the entire time, we ask you to sign a commitment sheet in the vestibule next weekend. 5 Christmas and Easter are traditional times for making a special gift to our parish. Our goal for this Easter is $80,000. Your generosity is needed so that we can meet this budgeted goal. Also, this year s very harsh and lengthy winter brought lower Mass attendance (and collections) and higher costs for heating, snow plowing and ice melter. 7 The Prime Timers agreed that the students in Triton College s Hospitality Program should get an A for the wonderful lunch they provided during our visit to their dining facility last Tuesday. Everyone had a great meal and a fun time, as can be seen in the pictures below. Exciting things have been happening in the St. Luke Parish School computer lab! Kindergarten students have been learning how to sign on to the computers by themselves. They are doing a great job! Our 4th and 6th grade students also learned how to create a spreadsheet and pie chart. The students were given different colored jelly beans to create the information for these charts. Being able to eat the jelly beans at the end of the exercise made this activity even more fun! The next event for the Prime Timers will be a visit to St. John Cantius Church in Chicago on Wednesday, April 23. We are encouraged to reflect on the Catholic social teaching principle, Call to Family, Community and Participation, and reminded that, as social beings, we are called to seek God together.
