We gather to start a new week as part of the family of Christ: some of us have had happy news we want to celebrate, some of us have faced grief and need a place to cry. In this gathering, we celebrate our connections between and beyond: all of us seeking God s presence in our lives, all of us seeking God s presence in each other. Together we sing as one family joined together in praise of God s creation. Processional Hymn No. 384 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling The Sacrament of Holy Baptism Introduction Brothers and sisters in Christ: Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ s holy church. We are incorporated into God s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit. All this is God s gift, offered to us without price. It is our great pleasure this morning to welcome Colin Jacob Klimecky into this community through this Sacrament.

3 Profession of Faith To the Parents: Do you turn from evil and desire forgiveness for whatever in your life separates you from communion with God, with others, and with yourself? I do Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist injustice and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? I do Do you claim Jesus as your guide, teacher, and savior? I do Do you trust the Holy Spirit of GOd as the strength of your life, the one who empowers you to act with compassion and justice in the world? I do Will you nuture Colin in God s holy church, that by your teaching and example they may be guided to accept God s grace for themselves, profess their faith openly, and live a Christian life? We will To the Congregation: As members of Christ s body, do you reaffirm your commitment to Christ, and your desire to live in loving relationship with God? We do Will you nuture each other in the Christian faith and life and include these persons before you in your care? With God s help, we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ. We will surround these persons with a community of love and forgiveness, that they may grow in their trust of God, be faithful in their service to others, and walk in the way that leads to life. Thanksgiving over the Water Pour out your Holy Spirit, to bless this gift of water and those who receive it. May it be a source of healing and forgiveness, a sign of your grace and love made visible in Jesus Christ. Blessing The Holy Spirit work within you, that being born through water and the Spirit, you may walk throughout your life in the way of Jesus Christ. 6 TODAY LOOKING AHEAD Join us for Coffee Hour in Collins Hall following worship. Summer Small Groups sign-ups begin today and go through the end of the month. Fellowship, service, mutual interest, study, and other opportunities for June-August are available. Pick up a Small Group pamphlet outside the Sanctuary by the flatscreen today! First Church Library Book Sale will be after worship today in Collins Hall. There will be a wide variety of books available (fiction, biographies, history, children s, etc.). Books are for sale by donation. Take what you want, and we ask that you give what you can (cash or checks only). Sign up today in Collins Hall after worship for the the Oregon Food Bank, Beaverton location Saturday, May 16th from 9 11:30 AM to help repack bulk food into family size portions. 8 THE BIG MOVE Beginning Next Sunday May 17th, our 10:30 Sunday morning worship will move to Collins Hall while the Sanctuary is renovated with new LED lighting, new carpet, refinished cork floors, new windows onto Beckham Courtyard, and a new video wall up front. There is a lot of work to be done to ensure that our primary worship space will serve our needs and provide a welcoming place for others for years to come. Worship in Collins Hall at 10:30 will feel a little different in a new space. And yet, all the essential elements will still be there: sermons which bring Scripture and spirituality into everyday life, children s messages which delight kids of all ages, congregational singing accompanied by organ music, and outstanding choir anthems. Plan now to join us to sing the Lord s song in a new space during our season of renewal! But wait! There s more! Our Parish Conference recently approved a plan to add an additional 9:00 am worship service in the Chapel during the months of June, July and August. This will ease some of the Collins Hall crowding, will offer a more informal worship style, and will give you an earlier start to your summer day. Come see what it is all about beginning on June 7! It s your choice 9:00 am, 10:30 am, or both! While the renovation work goes on in our physical plant, the work of renewal continues in our community!
