The Sacrament of Holy Communion The Invitation This is the table, not of the Church, but of the Lord. It is to be made ready for those who love God and want to love God more. So come, you who have much faith and you who have little; you who have been here often and you who have never been here before, and you who have not been here for a long time; you who have tried to follow and you who have failed. We come to this table because God has invited us and wants to meet us here. Remembering the Story What we do here, we do in imitation of what Christ first did. To his followers in every age, Jesus gave an example rooted in the experience he shared with his disciples in an upstairs room in Jerusalem. On the night on which he was betrayed, as they were sitting at a meal together, Jesus took bread, blessed it and broke it and gave it to his friends saying, This is my body, broken for you. Do this to remember me.

4 Later, after they had eaten, Jesus took a cup of wine and said, This cup is the new relationship with God made possible because of my death. Drink this, all of you, to remember me. So now we do as Jesus did. We take this bread and this cup. In these, Jesus has promised to be present; through these Christ can make us whole. Prayer of Thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is indeed right, for you made us and the world we inhabit. All that is spectacular, all that is plain have their origin in you; all that is lovely, all who are loving point to you as their fulfillment. And so we join our voices with the song of the Church in all times and places: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Blessing the Feast Gracious God, send now, in kindness, your Holy Spirit to settle on this bread and wine. Fill them with the fullness of Jesus Christ. And let that same Spirit rest on us, to convert us from the patterns of this passing world, until we conform to the shape of him whose food we now share. This interfaith advocacy day will bring together hundreds of people from throughout Oregon and from many religious traditions for a day of worship, dialogue and advocacy. ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES Christianity in a Changing World is an adult class studying Convictions: How I Learned What Mattered Most, by Marcus Borg. As he celebrates his 70th year, theologian and Bible scholar Marcus Borg reflects on his life and how he developed his most bedrock convictions and why they matter. 9:00 AM/Room 202 The Gathering is a community of parents of school-age children. Rev. Jeremy leads us each week in a time of conversation and study. We meet at the same time as the children s choirs and youth Sunday school. 9:30 AM/Room 204 Finding Wholeness in the Midst of Brokenness the first three Sundays in February. Stephen Ministers and leaders will lead discussions around supporting those who are experiencing broken relationships, lost dreams, or other difficult times.
