10 Music Notes Anthem Jerusalem by William Blake (circa 1804) And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon earth s mountains green? And was the Holy Lamb of God On earth s pleasant pastures seen? And did the countenance divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here Among these dark satanic mills? Bring me my bow of burning gold! Bring me my arrows of desire! Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold! Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, Till we have built Jerusalem In earth s green and pleasant land. The poem, Jerusalem, by Blake set to music by Parry was the inspiration for the title of the movie Chariots of Fire. The poem is about the legend that Joseph of Aramethia took Jesus as a boy to England and is a call to create a holy place where Jesus may have visited. Offertory Harvest Cantata by C. M. von Weber The gracious Parent hears us when we call; And for us stretches forth saving grace, And we, that low before God s presence fall, Partake of mercy, and excape from harm. Once more we see the good by God provided; The hearts of children are a parent s own, If for kindness and for truth is known. What we have sown at length is ripe for harvest, While peace has o er us shone. The hearts of children are a parent s own, If for kindness and for truth is known.
