Heartfelt thank you s to all who purchased shares for the Downtown Compassion Clinic on June 16th. Your kind generosity will allow approximately 130 poor and homeless clients at the clinic to receive vouchers for their much needed prescriptions. Well done! Olive Oil Sales It s back by popular demand! Many people enjoyed the Canaan Fair Trade olive oil, and related middle-eastern products, mafatoul (Palestinian cous-cous) and Zataar (a yummy seasoning!). The Global Missions Committee will now conduct sales on a quarterly basis with the next held during coffee hour on Sunday, June 17. Profits from the sales will benefit mission projects in the Holy Land. Julian of Norwich: Today at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Portland. The life and times of the medieval woman mystic, Julian of Norwich, will be presented by actress and clergywoman, Linda C. Loving of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Julian was the first known woman to write in Middle English and her words of hope and inspiration speak to the turmoil of our times as well. Tickets will be available at the door. $15 for adults $12 for seniors 65+. Linens Drive for the Community Warehouse Starting in July, the youth group will be collecting linens, towels, pillows and bedding that have been lightly used or are new. The collection is to provide the Community Warehouse with a good stock for those who are in need. Bring your donation to church any day in July. Youth Group Scavenger Hunt Sunday, June 24 - Last Sunday Youth Adventure. Meet in Collins Hall at 12 noon for a Scavenger Hunt. Bring your lunch or $10 to buy it. If you bring a friend, you get extra points. Prizes will be awarded. We will be done by 2:30 p.m. Somebody is getting married... Next week Saturday, June 16, I will be marrying my love, Nitin Tekchandani, at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Please know that you are welcome to join us in celebration and ceremony. 3 Adult Sunday School Classes CHANGING CHRISTIANITY Join in the discussion of Saving Jesus from the Church: How to Stop Worshiping Christ and Start Following Jesus by Robin Myers. The class meets at 9:00 AM in Room 202. FAITHLINK Come study with us the Three Simple Rules: A Wesleyan Way of Living by Reuben Job. We meet at 9:15 AM in Room 134. Summer Sunday School for Children Starting Sunday, June 17 the Sunday School class will be meeting in Room 134. This will be a one-room Sunday school experience, building relationships between kids of all ages. Children ages 3-12 are welcome. Please consider teaching one or two Sundays. Then our Dan Woodward will escort the group to the Goose Hollow Tri-Met station and travel to our Church lineup location in preparation for a 11:30 a.m. parade step off. Upon lineup arrival, Dan Strickland will greet you and give everyone a T-shirt with the words In God s House, All Are Welcome ; a rainbow colored umbrella; a bottle of water and a small snack. Vern and Betty Groves will drive leading our group in their car which will double as a spot for marchers to cool-down or rest up during the parade. Last year, we had well over 39 FUMC participants including, friends and family - this year, we hope 45 marchers will join us!
