7 Adult Sunday School Classes CHRISTIANITY IN A CHANGING WORLD This class is exploring the complexities of what it means to be a compassionate Christian in today s complicated world for Advent. The class meets at 9:00 AM in Room 202. THE GATHERING The Gathering is a new Sunday morning opportunity for young adults and parents of Sunday studying the worship scriptures of Advent. We gather at 9:30 AM in Room 204. FAITHLINKS FaithLinks is studying Phillip Kellers, A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23. We meet at 9:15 AM in Room 110. NEW CLASS STARTING IN JANUARY: THE PSALMS IN TEN WEEKS Rev. Dr. Tom Rannells will lead The Psalms in Ten Weeks, using Walter Brueggemann s: The Message of the Psalms. We will follow his organization of three sections: Psalms of Orientation, Disorientation and New Orientation. The class will begin Sunday January 13, 2013 at 9:00 AM in Room SOMETHINGS! no children at home. Rev. Donna is working with an energetic team to put together discussion and learning topics of interest, beginning with some simple storytelling to help us get connected and better acquainted. DREAMWORKERS: AN INTRODUCTORY SESSION Have you ever thought about how your dreams might relate to insight into your spiritual journey? Dreamworkers will be one of our many new small group opportunities for the coming year. On Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 7:00 PM in the Fireside Room, Dr Tufenkian will lead a one hour introductory session to explain the process in detail with a brief demonstration. After the hour, participants can decide to participate in the following eight two-hour sessions which will begin in the next week or two. 8 Portland s First United Methodist Church Alternative Christmas God s Love Present Around the World IMAGINE NO MALARIA Imagine No Malaria is a United Methodist ministry seeking to raise $75 million in order to eliminate malaria deaths in Africa by In addition to providing mosquito DEE POUJADE TO PALESTINE Dee Poujade is heading to Palestine as a United Methodist Volunteer in Mission and as an Ecumenical Accompanier under the World Council of Churches, to monitor and report human rights abuses, and to support Palestinians and Israelis who are working together for peace. SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND DEVELOPMENT Rural areas account for three quarters of the world s malnourished population. This Advance will train at least 3,000 people in these areas in appropriate agricultural methods to protect the environment while also providing much needed food and economic growth. SOLVE teaching stewardship of our natural environment. Planet Church has worked with SOLVE on many projects. Your gift will support efforts to remove invasive plants, and clean up litter. GOOSE HOLLOW FAMILY SHELTER Goose Hollow Family Shelter is housed right here in our building, and provides year-round shelter for homeless families. Your gift will help our shelter guests to feel the warmth and love of Christmas now and into the new year. MACDONALD CENTER Macdonald Center is a leader in providing outreach and support services to the forgotten poor in the heart of Portland. Their work helps keep people in housing and off the street by providing education, encouragement and one-to-one care.
