If you know someone needing the prayer chain, or if you would like to volunteer your me on the chain, please call either of the leaders listed below: Philomena Lillie or Audrey & Mike Lucotch OPENING THE MASS CALENDAR FOR 2019 Usually in September we open the new Mass Book to schedule Masses in remembrance of our loved ones, and to pray for them in the midst of our congregation. However, this year we will vary from that pattern. This time we will start taking Mass requests and scheduling your Masses Wednesday, October 3rd. You can come to Mass then stop into the Office. Around Mid September I ll put the forms in vestibule. If you schedule for a weekend Mass and you want Flowers too, we can schedule that at the same time. St. Paul Youth Ministry Grades 6-12 ST PAUL YOUTH MINISTRY CHECK IT OUT! This is an open invitation to all students in grades six through twelve to join us on Sunday evenings to discover what God is calling you to do as the young church. Saint Paul Youth Ministry is focused on forming our young people through the study and practice of their faith and to challenge them to embrace the life of the church through prayer, service to our community and social activities. We will start with a get together of students and their parents on Sunday, September 9, 4:30 6:00 in the youth ministry room on the second floor of the Parish Center. We will keep the Local Charities Collection and Continental Breakfast on the last weekend of the month. 40TH JUBILEE CELEBRATION IS RESCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 14, 2018!!! Fr. Lawrence's Celebration has been rescheduled for October 14 at Rizzo s from 3:00-8:00PM. All details remain the same: Joe Grkman Band will provide musical entertainment for us, and Rizzo s will provide the food. Menu for the evening will be: Italian Hors D oeuvres, Italian Style Roasted Chicken, Cheese Ravioli, Homemade Lasagna; also provided will be Pizza, Italian Salad, Hot Vegetable, Bread & Butter, and Dessert Table. The good news is that your tickets are still good, but we need to hear from you either way: --If you are able to come and already have tickets, please let us know so that we can keep your reservation; --If you are not available to come, please let us know so that we can cancel your reservation and refund your cost of the tickets. Basket Raffle will be held as part of the evening event. 4 NET MINISTRIES RETREATS SCHEDULED IN THE DIOCESE NET Ministries retreats, which invite young people to live for Christ, will be held at four locations in the diocese this month: for grades 6-8, from 4:30-9 p.m. Sept. 23 at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish, Indiana; and 5-10 p.m. Sept. 24 at St. John the Baptist Parish, Perryopolis, and Sept. 28 at St. John Baptist de La Salle Parish, Delmont; and for grades 9-1, Sept , from 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday at Mother of Sorrows Parish, Murrysville. Registration is $15; $40 for the overnight event. Register at SHARING CHRIST COURSE AT SAINT VINCENT Saint Vincent Basilica Parish in Latrobe will be offering the Sharing Christ course on Tuesdays from September 18 - October 23, 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Parish Center Assembly Room with a retreat on Sunday, October 28 from 1:00-8:00 p.m. Sharing Christ is the third course of the ChristLife series and helps people who have completed Following Christ to share Jesus Christ with others and invite them to be part of the Church. Sharing Christ focuses on sharing our relationship with Jesus in our daily encounters with people. Registration is required. Saint Vincent depaul Society ANNUAL FUND DRIVE As the hot days of summer are winding down, there are great expectations of cooler days and nights.and the vivid colors of Autumn leaves. We also turn to a worldwide celebration that started many years ago in 1810 in Munich, Germany, namely: OKTOBERFEST!!!! We want to extend this sort of unofficial celebration to the needy in our community. This collection replaces the Lenten Food Appeal. The funds that are collected on October will continue to be used to supplement the food distribution programs at the Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated. MISSION: To help and serve the less fortunate among us. BAPTISMS: As your family grows and you prepare for the arrival of your child, remember to plan for his/her Baptism with the Parish Office. REFLECTION: LISTENING AND RESPONDING There are three interwoven themes in today s readings: listening to God, faith vs. good works, and losing our life in order to find it. How are they related? The Suffering Servant of Isaiah undergoes much distress and ridicule, but is able to bear it because he has listened to the promptings of God day after day. The psalm tells us that God listens, too. God hears our prayers for help and is always ready to save us. As our faith deepens, so does our desire to do the works of justice and charity that build up the reign of God. God directs our actions in ways we often cannot see, and we don t always see the results. We are called upon in faith to trust that what we do is enough, and that willingness to listen to God s promptings will lead us in the right way. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. VOCATIONS DISCERNMENT EVENTS FOR BOYS IN GRADES 6-12 The Office for Priestly Vocations is hosting vocations discernment events for young men. Jeremiah Days, for boys in grades 6-8 and their parents, will be November 10, February 9 and April 13 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at St. Barbara Parish, Harrison City. Priesthood Discernment days will be held for young men in grades 9-12 at Greensburg Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School from 6:30-8 p.m. October 14, November 18, December 9, February 17, March 10, April 14 and May 12. Come Praise, Pray, Witness and Grow together! ANOINTING OF THE SICK MASS Saint James Parish, New Alexandria will be celebrating a special Anointing Mass on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:30AM. God wants to heal us and will heal through the powerful gift given to us by the Holy Spirit. This is one of God s gifts to His Church. We invite anyone who feels a need for healing whether it is physical, spiritual, emotional healing, or that is in a relationship problem and wants help to forgive, to please join us. Pittsburgh St. Greensburg, PA Kids ll Do the Darnedest Things The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray: "Take only ONE. God is watching." Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples."...a little boy was listening to a long and excessively boring sermon in church. Suddenly the red sanctuary lamp caught his eye. Tugging his father's sleeve, he said, "Daddy, when the light turns green can we go?" ON-GOING REGISTRATION CONTINUES FOR PATHWAYS.
