2 THE BIBLE AND THE SACRAMENTS How do the Old Testaments signs of water, bread, blood, circumcision, and animal sacrifice prefigure the Sacraments which Jesus gives to us as avenues of Grace? Please consider joining us in our Bible study to gain a deeper understanding of our Sacraments in their origins and purposes in our lives today. The studies will begin September 4 and end November 13. The sign-up weekends will be August and August after all Masses. St. Paul Youth Ministry Youth (Grades 6-12) High School: 4:30-6:00PM Jr. High: 6:30-8:00PM Youth Ministry Meetings Resume in September Youth Ministry will be back on a weekly schedule kicking off the season on September 9. Although a schedule of topics is not available yet, we do know that there will not be gatherings on November 25 (Thanksgiving Holiday) and December 30 (Christmas-New Year Holiday). You are invited to attend St. Andrew Dinner on August 10th, 6:30PM at Mother of Sorrows Church in Murrysville. The St. Andrew Dinner is named after St. Andrew who, in the St. John s Gospel brought his brother Simon Peter to meet Jesus. The Dinner is intended to reach out to young men who are considering a vocation to the Priesthood. It offers a relaxed atmosphere and includes a time for prayer, a meal, and an opportunity to listen to Bishop Malesic talk about his own journey to priesthood. Come listen, talk, pray and eat. This is a casual gathering for discussion and dialogue about the life of a priest and a priestly vocation. You will see flyers posted in the church and reminders in our bulletin. But, before you set the date please contact the Parish Office at Remember that the Bride or Groom should be a parishioner here at St. Paul. You will need to talk to Father Lawrence, and then confirm you date. Because Marriage is a serious step in life and it is a Sacrament, Marriage Preparation is necessary. For this, you will meet with Father Lawrence or Father Jim; and you will spend time with a sponsor couple who have been approved by the diocese. Collaterally, you will be in touch with Mrs. Sue Craig and Mr. Glenn Buzzard. Mrs. Craig is the Coordinator of Faith Formation. She will help you to schedule your date, connect you with a sponsor couple, and then work behind the scenes coordinating paperwork with the priest, and answering your questions about weddings at St. Paul Parish. Mr. Buzzard is our Director of Music Ministry. He can talk to you about your requests for music at the wedding and will help you to make choices that best fit the Liturgy of your Wedding Mass. If it is difficult reaching anyone to answer questions for you, you may leave word with the Office Manager, Jim Mosser, who can help you make contact with the other office staff. It is a big task to get everything done by the Wedding date, but we are here to help you make it happen. You start by calling the Parish Office ( ) to speak to Father at least 6 months ahead of your projected Wedding date. GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS Bishop Malesic invites all couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary during the calendar year 2018 to participate in a special Golden Jubilee Mass to be held at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. The Jubilarians, their children, relatives or friends should contact their local parish office to register couples for this celebration. Even though they may not be able to attend the Mass, they will receive a scroll signed by the Bishop commemorating their anniversary. NEW WEBSITE ADMINISTRATOR FOR SAINT PAUL & SAINT BRUNO Over the past few months website administration has been going through a transition. Mr. Bob Chappell tendered his resignation of the position as other job responsibilities increased. Bob has been involved with the website for the past 3 years also offered to stay on as administrator until a new one was located and trained by the diocese. We thank Bob for all that he has done in fostering the growth and development of pbcatholic.org. As we started to search for a replacement, a parishioner suggested that we talk to Anthony Concannon, they knew he was with IT at a local college and a parishioner here at St. Paul. Whether it was blessings from above, good luck or good timing we will never know but, Tony agreed to accept the position and to continue development of the website. Many of you know Tony, his wife Emily and their 4 children; as well as his parents Mike and Brenda Concannon. They are a family well rooted in this parish and aware of many of the special activities, ministries and liturgical celebrations that make us Saint Paul Parish. We thank Tony for taking on this task, and we wish him much success moving the website forward. FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION MASS, CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION & ROSARY Bishop Malesic will lead a celebration of the feast of the Assumption Aug. 15 at the Bishop Connare Center. The bishop will celebrate Mass at 7 p.m. in the St. Joseph Chapel then lead a candlelight procession. That will be followed by recitation of the rosary led by different groups from the diocese. THEOLOGY ON TAP Calling ALL young adults (single, married, parents, etc.)! Join us for Theology on Tap in the A-K Valley on Thursday, July 26, at 7:00 p.m. at Garda s Restaurant (2033 State Route 66, Ford City, PA 16226). The topic of the evening is Living the Liturgical Year: How to Incorporate the Church Calendar into our Lives Throughout the Year presented by Fr. Eric Dinga. Food will be provided, no charge! In today s Gospel, the Lord Jesus listens to the reports of those he had sent out two by two to minister to the people. After the apostles reported what they had done, Jesus, recognizing their fatigue, says, Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest awhile (Mark 6:31). Perhaps this is what the Lord is telling his disciples in the year 2018 as well. We need to pause on our journey of discipleship and simply rest in the Lord. Sunday Mass provides many opportunities for quiet times, particularly during the periods of silence following the readings. Why not take the time today to allow the saving word of the Lord to penetrate your heart during those silent times?
