2 THE BIBLE AND THE SACRAMENTS How do the Old Testaments signs of water, bread, blood, circumcision, and animal sacrifice prefigure the Sacraments which Jesus gives to us as avenues of Grace? Please consider joining us in our Bible study to gain a deeper understanding of our Sacraments in their origins and purposes in our lives today. The studies will begin September 4 and end November 13. The sign-up weekends will be August and August after all Masses. St. Paul Youth Ministry Youth (Grades 6-12) High School: 4:30-6:00PM Jr. High: 6:30-8:00PM Youth Ministry Meetings Resume in September Youth Ministry will be back on a weekly schedule kicking off the season on September 9. Although a schedule of topics is not available yet, we do know that there will not be gatherings on November 25 (Thanksgiving Holiday) and December 30 (Christmas-New Year Holiday). You will remember that the Mission Co-op Collection netted $2,049 for the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. A thank you note was received thanking all of us for our assistance and responsiveness to their needs during their recent Mission Appeal. They promise to keep all of us in their prayers and ask the same from you. BILLBOARD COURTESY OF THE BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN Have you seen it yet? The funds donated through the Baby Bottle Campaign have paid for a billboard over near Lynch Field and Sheetz at the 5 point intersection. Returning to Greensburg from Lynch field, and just before you go through the tunnel there is a large billboard right there that says real men love babies and has a picture of a young man holding a baby, bringing home the point that true masculinity is manifested in fatherhood. This message is being seen in Greensburg thanks to your generosity to the Baby Bottle Campaign. INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC? Are you or someone you know interested in becoming Catholic? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, RCIA, is a process through which interested adults and older children are introduced to the Roman Catholic Faith. Call Sue at the parish office for more information THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT TO OUR TRASH N TREASURE SALE 2018 Six weeks of organizing culminated in the usual successful Trash n Treasure for This year s proceeds (along with last year s) will be used towards the completion of the updated bathrooms in the Social Hall. The project will be underway on July 30. As always, there are so very many people to thank for this endeavor. Parishioners (especially Rosary Altar Society members), along with family, friends, and Youth Ministry members, worked steadfastly since June 1 to accept, clean, sort, and organize the many donations brought to the hall. Food and bake sale donations were so very much appreciated, along with the many women (under the direction of our very competent Pat Shields) who worked so hard in the kitchen to prepare the food. As in the last couple years, many creative baskets were presented for the sale, and this has been a nice addition. Then there are the many, many people who helped at the actual sale whether it was carrying merchandise to cars, cleaning and re -organizing, collecting money, bagging up the goods it took all of you collectively to make this project fruitful. Last and not least, we thank the entire community (parishioners, neighbors, friends, visitors) who patronized our sale and helped our cause. Well done, one and all! Our gross proceeds tallied over $28, Again, our need was answered when we asked for help with the financial cost of our food. Many people stepped up; if your name isn t on the list, we haven t received that information in time for the bulletin. We are very grateful for your kindness. CHANGES ARE COMING TO YOUR MAILBOX For several years this parish has used Our Sunday Visitor for our weekly and holyday offerings. Considering the financial climate and wanting to make our finances stretch as far as possible we have developed a new partnership with Cathedral Corporation to do our envelopes. Contracting with this group will save St. Paul Parish a significant amount of money. The glitch is, any time you do something new there are minor problems, bugs to work out. Sometimes a name is spelled wrong or the wrong address is on the packet. Please be patient and let us know what the problems are so we can help them get it right. Now maybe I am wrong and everything will go perfectly, without a snag. We ll see! Starting with the September 2018 mailing Cathedral Corporation will be our envelope provider. They will send envelope packets every other month for a total of 6 mailings per year, just like you are used to. They will be in order of the way we use them now. The envelope design will be different, but we are not sure what it will look like yet. 4 times a year there will be envelopes to pay for your subscription to the Catholic Accent. It is $14.00 per year; you can pay it all at once or $3.50 every time you see the envelope (4 times each year). If you do not receive the Catholic Accent in the mail then this envelope will not pertain to you. Otherwise, it will seem pretty much the same. We have been listening to Saint Mark s Gospel during this liturgical year (Year B). Today we begin to hear a long section from John s Gospel, starting with the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes. This miracle story is a prelude to the Lord s statements that we will begin hearing in a few weeks, in which Jesus refers to himself as the bread of life. Each week we witness a miracle at Mass. We do not see a multiplication of loaves before us. What our eyes of faith allow us to see is the miracle of the transformation of common elements bread and wine into the Lord s Body and Blood. Once we have received the Lord, the multiplication begins, for in the Eucharist we are strengthened to multiply our efforts to feed the poor, shelter the homeless, and bring comfort to the despairing. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. RENOVATIONS IN THE PARISH HALL Starting July 30th and moving forward for a few months our Parish Hall will not be accessible, and especially the restrooms. For several years we have known that the appearance of the restrooms that serve the Parish Hall are dated. They truly look 1960 s, and that is because they are as old as our building. No renovations have been done since the time they were initially installed. It has been called to our attention that the restrooms are not handicapped accessible and simply due to that renovations are in order. In addition, there have been sewage issues that developed over the past few years. So the renovation will be a very large job, not just a cosmetic make-over. I am sure the end product will be worth the inconvenience we must bear. So with that said, the Parish Hall will not be available for programs, RAS & Scout Meetings, Funeral Meals or any other Social or Spiritual gatherings. Funds from the Trash n Treasure , and DLA refunds will be used to help pay for this major reconstruction project. ABOUT THE 40TH JUBILEE MASS AND CELEBRATION Father Lawrence will celebrate the Sunday Masses, here and at St. Bruno on August 5th as part of the celebration of his 40 year Jubilee. Here at St. Paul we will also have the Combined Funeral & Adult Choirs to add to the festivities. Also, he has stated that attire for the dinner and social event at Rizzo s should be casual. No collar for him, no tie for me! Shorts & a polo shirt is what he feels would be comfortable dress for the gathering. Page 4

AUGUST 7: DCCW NIGHT AT SAINT VINCENT SUMMER THEATER: The Greensburg Diocesan Council of Catholic Women is sponsoring a night at the Saint Vincent Summer Theatre for the comedy Leading Ladies Aug. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The night includes 50/50 chances on theme baskets and refreshments. AUGUST 15: FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION MASS, CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION & ROSARY: Bishop Malesic will lead a celebration of the feast of the Assumption Aug. 15 at the Bishop Connare Center. The bishop will celebrate Mass at 7 p.m. in the St. Joseph Chapel then lead a candlelight procession. That will be followed by recitation of the rosary led by different groups from the diocese.
