We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; may they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice. We pray for Fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering; may they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow. We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advise. We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen. 2 God gambles the farm Imagine a farmer sowing a field, and then going about his life, not bothering about the progress of his crop. When it s harvest time, the happy farmer takes in an incredible return of grain. Crazy, right? What farmer has ever been that clueless and that lucky? God s realm operates pretty much this way. God offers the gift of life in seed form. We re on our own to take it as far as we want to go. God won t force our fruitfulness; we re free to waste our time and produce nothing. Is God betting the farm wisely on you? TODAY'S READINGS: Ezekiel 17:22-24 In a vision of the prophet the remnant of Israel is promised a return to Zion. Psalm 92:2-3, 13-14, Those who are planted firmly in the Lord will flourish and bear fruit. 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 While mortal life is not the point of life in Christ, it is the medium of the gospel message. Mark 4:26-34 Jesus describes life in the reign of God: purposeful, hidden, vibrant, fruitful. It is as if a man were to scatter seed... and through it all the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. In acknowledging the Real Presence of Christ, the Tabernacle Candle will burn from June 16 through June 22 in memory of Tony Rendulich from his loving family. A child is a precious gift from God and baptism is God s gift wrapping. We recently welcomed Cole Hunter Englert into the parish community through the saving waters of Baptism. We rejoice for him, his parents and all who celebrate their newborn lives in the family of God. Our group started out as a Crochet and Knit for Charity group and we were blessed with such a great response from our parishioners that the group now bears a new and very fitting name: THREADS OF LOVE Threads of Love meets every Monday from 1:15 PM - 3:00 PM in the Social Hall. Meet with others and dedicate your time and talents to those who could benefit from the beautiful items made. The experienced can help novice participants learn and together you can create something beautiful. Our group will be meeting throughout the summer so enjoy the companionship and join Threads of Love! Natural Family Planning CM-BBT instruction will be July 16 at 6 PM in the Catholic Charities office in Greensburg. Please call at least one week prior to the instruction date to pre-register. Confirmation letters were mailed out a few weeks ago to families with children who will be entering 8 th grade this Fall. Your help is needed to make Vacation Bible School a huge success for all children attending! Show God s love through your example by offering to help volunteer. Shipwrecked VBS will be hosted at BSC from July 7 through July 13. Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon. A very special thank you to everyone who participated in the Anointing Mass on June 14 th. The Mass was beautiful and everyone who attended helped to make the Mass more meaningful. A special thank you to the Knight s of Columbus for their generosity in hosting such a delicious spaghetti dinner and to those who donated desserts or helped in any other way. We are always very proud when our parish community can support such important and meaningful events such as the Anointing Mass. Join the Active Seniors group for a lunch and show outing on Sunday, July 15, The group will first gather at the Lamplighter at 12:00 noon for lunch, individuals will pay for lunch separately. The group will then enjoy the musical Grease at Apple Hill Playhouse at 2 PM. Tickets are $20.00 and each member will pay separately at the playhouse. To reserve a seat, please call Fran Murrman at or by July 4. Come and enjoy the afternoon with us! Just a reminder that each month the St. Vincent de Paul Society purchases 675 rolls of toilet paper to distribute to our food pantry. This is enough to give 168 families four rolls of toilet paper. However, the pantry serves 280 families. We need your donations to make up the difference. Please consider donating toilet paper, paper towels and Kleenex or napkins to our paper collection when you come to Mass, at the end of the month, or when you stop by to pray during the week. St. John s Fire celebration at Diocese Heritage Center The Diocesan Heritage Center and Knights of Malta will host a St. John s Fire Celebration June 24, the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, at the Bishop Connare Center at 7 PM. The event features guest chef Josh Ross of Pirata in Pittsburgh and the Cooking Channel. Suggested donation is $25. All proceeds benefit the Diocesan Heritage Center. A class for parents is required to reflect on the meaning of the sacrament, to review the ceremony, and to highlight the importance of the family s commitment to practicing the Catholic Faith. Forms for our parish members to serve as sponsors for Baptism and Confirmation must be filled at the Parish Office or with a priest at a weekend Mass. To serve as a sponsor, you must be at least 16 years old, a practicing Catholic who has received Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist.
