Come see the changes during our open house the weekend of September 9-10 immediately following the Masses. Youth Gatherings are broken down by age and grade level. The groups are small and casual, and are always open to new members and visitors. Youth need not be members here to attend, so you can bring a friend with you when you come for gatherings. St Paul Youth Ministry is focused on forming our young people through the study and practice of their faith, to challenge them to embrace the life of the church through prayer, service to our community and social activities. CUB SCOUT RECRUITMENT AT ST. PAUL PARISH Cub Scout Pack 480 is having its Sign-Up Night on Thursday September 15th at 7:00 pm at the Pavilion of St. Paul s Parish. This is Pack 480 s 51st year of serving boys in our area, and is open for any boys in the Kindergarten thru 5th grade. Call Cubmaster Rob Very ( ) for all of the details. RAS COVERED DISH MEETING The Rosary Altar Society of St. Paul Parish will be holding their Covered Dish Meeting on September 5th. The dinner meeting will commence in the Parish Hall at 6:00PM. Members with last names starting with A-M are asked to bring side dishes; N-Z should bring desserts. Subsequent RAS business meetings are scheduled for October 3rd and November 7th at 7:00PM. Watch for their Annual Christmas Sale. Choir resumes on Wednesday, September 6th at 7PM for the first rehearsal. If you have entertained the idea of joining the choir please contact the Director of Music: Emily Lapisardi Knotts. PRAYER CHAIN The Prayer Chain is activated every Tuesday evening. If you know someone needing the prayer chain, or if you would like to volunteer your time on the chain, please call either of the leaders listed below: Philomena Lillie or Audrey & Mike Lucotch Engaged couples planning to be married at St. Paul Parish, one of whom must be an active, registered member of the parish, should contact the Parish Office at least six months in advance of the intended wedding. A date should not be set before this contact to assure that the church is available and that there is time for Pre-marriage formation. DEVASTATION IN TEXAS HURRICANE HARVEY It is hard to imagine this kind of devastation. Where do you start putting life back together when this is what is left? Keep the victims of Hurricane Harvey in your prayers, and watch for ways that you can help. Although a 2nd collection has not been established here yet, Catholic Charities USA is accepting donations to assist at, Readings & Reflections Reflection: Following Christ If you ve ever had an unpleasant but somewhat amusing practical joke played on you, then you have some understanding of how Jeremiah feels today when he tells God good one you duped me. We can almost see him shaking his head with a bit of a rueful smile, but an angry undertone in his voice. In similar fashion, Peter thinks Jesus is duping him when Jesus starts to explain that being Messiah means suffering and dying, and being a follower of the Messiah means taking up a cross and doing the same. Jeremiah tries to deny God s will for him by trying to shut up; Peter who has just been made the foundation of the church out and out denies the teaching of Jesus, for which he is named Satan today. Fortunately for us, Jeremiah comes to realize that to have the word of God placed in your heart means that it will be futile to try and keep silent, even if it means scorn and derision from those around you. Luckily Peter ultimately returned to the faith he professed in last week s Gospel, and came to understand our need as baptized followers of Christ to follow in his way, even when it means following him to our very death. King We cannot introduce Jesus Christ to others unless we have first been introduced to him ourselves, and this is our purpose with the Priest, Prophet, King Formation Program to provide an introduction to the Lord so that in coming to know him, people might better introduce him to others. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, your choice of afternoons from 1:00 to 2:30 or evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 and will begin on September 26 & end on November 7. Cost - $21.00 (scholarships available). Registration - weekends of September 2/3 and September 9/10 after Masses at St. Paul Parish. Questions NEW FROM THE KNIGHTS The Knights of Columbus is devoted to the support of the Church and dedicated to the five parish within the boundaries of our Greensburg Council #1480. It has been very active in parish, diocese, family, youth and community activities. To continue its support of the church and to expand its many works of charity, the K of C will be hold an recruitment drive in our parish at the Masses on the Weekend of September 16 & 17. Membership is open to any man aged 18 years or older. To learn more about the Greensburg K of C Council and benefits of membership, speak with any of the Knights during the recruitment drive or Visit the website at knights1480.com. As you anticipate the birth of your child, please call or visit the parish office to make arrangements for Baptism. You should contact the office at least two months in advance of the child s birth. Sessions for the parents are required and are designed to reflect on the meaning of the Sacrament of Baptism, to review the ceremony, and to highlight the importance of the family s commitment to practice the Catholic Faith. Around the Diocese REGISTRATION OPEN FOR CATHOLIC-LUTHERAN FINAL EVENT OCT. 28 AT SAINT VINCENT Registration is open for Commemoration of Hope, the final event in From Conflict to Communion: Together in Hope, the theme of the Catholic- Lutheran regional observance of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The guest speaker will be Dr. John Borelli, special assistant for Catholic Identity and Dialogue to the president of Georgetown University. The next Natural Family Planning CM-BBT Method INSTRUCTION is scheduled for MONDAY OCTOBER 2, 2017 beginning at 6pm at the Catholic Charities office in Greensburg.
