The St. Paul Bible Study Group will offer the acclaimed DVD series, CATHOLICISM, parts of which have been shown on many PBS stations. In it, Bishop Robert Barron travels extensively throughout the globe explaining and exploring the variety and the sameness of our universal church. From the cathedral at Notre Dame in Paris, to small village parishes in the Philippines, watch the love and enthusiasm of Catholics everywhere who are the living fruition of our Lord s call to go out and teach all the nations. Within a one hour presentation, Bishop Barron reveals the practice of our faith in a variety of cities, countries and continents while he unpacks the meaning of the great ideas our faith teaches. Both the photography and the music are stunning. Each video presentation will be followed by discussion; there is no homework nor book fee involved. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The Greensburg Area St. Vincent de Paul Society is sponsoring an OUTDOOR food distribution on Monday, May 15, Operation Fresh Express is held in conjunction with the Westmoreland County Food Bank. The event will take place in the parking lot of Church of Jesus Christ World Operations Center, 110 Walton Tea Room Road, Greensburg. (This is off of route 136 on the way to Hempfield High School.) Volunteers are requested to arrive by 3:00 PM and we are normally done by 5:00 PM. We need a minimum of 30 volunteers for this to run smoothly. Please join us. 3 FATHER BYRNES CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY Congratulations to Fr. Robert Byrnes who is Celebrating his 50th Anniversary of Priesthood, today. There will be a concelebrated Mass of Thanksgiving on May 7th at Our Lady of Grace Church commencing at 2PM. A reception will follow in the church hall until 8:00PM. You are cordially invited to attend the Mass and/or the reception. Keep Father in your prayers. Fr. Byrnes often assists here at St. Paul Parish when one of our priests is away. So it is with special appreciation that we send congratulatory wishes to him on this special anniversary. St Paul Youth Ministry is focused on forming our young people through the study and practice of their faith and to challenge them to embrace the life of the church through prayer, service to our community and social activities. Knocking on Heaven s Door... In your kindness remember our parishioner, and his family who mourn their loss: John E. Fetter, Jr., Husband of Mary Fetter and Veteran of the Vietnam War. John died on April 28, 2017 and was laid to rest at Westmoreland County Memorial Park after the Funeral Mass at St. Paul Parish. WEIGHT WATCHERS AT ST PAUL Let s face it losing weight is not for sissies! If you ve thought about joining Weight Watchers and just can t decide, please call Sue at the parish office for more information. We are open to new members to join the Weight Watchers program here at St Paul on Tuesdays at 6:30PM. Cost is $156 for a twelve week session. THE BASILICA OF THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION As the next few weeks unfold, you will be hearing more about the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C. It has been in the making since The crowning jewel of the central and largest dome will be a mosaic depiction of the Holy Trinity, Mary as the Immaculate Conception, and a procession of saints who have an association with America and the Basilica. The words of the Nicene Creed will encircle this image and the pendentives will feature the four evangelists. This mosaic art piece will complete America s Shrine to Mary. The Bishops of the United States approved a one time collection for the Trinity Dome. Here it will be collected on May 14, Please prayerfully consider a donation to help complete our shrine. Watch for the in-pew envelopes for your donation. Thank you in advance for your generosity. DONATIONS FOR TRASH N TREASURE SALE The Rosary Altar Society of Saint Paul Parish in Greensburg will be holding its annual Trash n Treasure Sale on Friday, July 14 (9 a.m.-7 p.m.), Saturday, July 15 (9 a.m.-7 p.m.) with ½ off starting this day, and Sunday, July 16 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.). The Early Bird Special this year will be held on Thursday, July 13, from 6-8 p.m. There will also be a Bag Sale on Monday, July 17, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for $4/bag (except for jewelry which will be 25 cents and large items which will be ½ off original price). Donations will be accepted for housewares, toys, furnishings and other usable goods (NO clothing, baby car seats, extra-large exercise equipment, encyclopedias, college textbooks, tires, console televisions, stereos, computer equipment except laptops or flat screens, monitors, cabinet sewing machines, or anything with Freon). Christmas trees will be accepted. These items may be dropped off at the church parish hall, located at 820 Carbon Road between the hours of 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday starting Monday, June 5. Items may also be dropped off on Monday evenings from 6-8 p.m., starting June 5. Diocesan is the amount our Church is assessed for Support of the Diocese and it s charitable works. Parish goal is an amount in addition to the Diocesan Goal for special projects here at church, i.e.. new more durable hymnals. Due to the generosity of the parishioners who are contributing to DLA we have surpassed our Diocesan Goal. Now, any amount collected will come directly back to St. Paul Parish. THE CALL OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD The Twenty-third Psalm, today s responsorial psalm, is arguably the best known of all the psalms. The line that reads Even though I walk in the dark valley / I fear no evil; for you are at my side / with your rod and your staff / that give me courage (Psalm 23:4) connects this week s scriptures to the wonderful story of the road to Emmaus, which we heard last week. The Lord Jesus, our Good Shepherd, is constantly at our side. He calls us each by name, beckoning us into a deeper relationship with him. That call, issued to each of us at the moment of our baptism, carries with it the promise of the Good Shepherd: I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). 5 Around the Diocese WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS World Day of Prayer will be observed on Sunday, May 7th, also known as "Good Shepherd Sunday." The purpose of this day is to publically fulfill the Lord's instruction to, "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest" (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). Please pray that young men and women hear and respond generously to the Lord's call to the priesthood, diaconate, religious life, societies of apostolic life or secular institutes. The day begins with Mass at 9 a.m. followed by exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and praying of the Fatima rosary. Prayers will be offered at each half hour. Benediction begins at 3:30 p.m. and the day closes with Mass at 4:30 p.m. Participants can attend at any point in the day.
