TRASH & TREASURE ANNOUNCEMENT The Trash n Treasure Committee reminds parishioners to keep in mind this year s event as you do your spring cleaning. We do not accept clothing, baby car seats, extra large exercise equipment, encyclopedias, college textbooks, tires, console televisions, stereos, computer equipment (except laptops or flat screens), monitors, cabinet sewing machines, or anything with Freon. Christmas trees will be accepted. This year s sale will take place July with a $5 Bag Sale on July 23. Donations are now being accepted Monday-Thursday, from 8 am 1 pm in the Parish Hall. Items may also be dropped off on Monday evenings from 6-8 pm Donations are not being accepted on Fridays. Volunteers will be needed Monday-Thursday from 8 am 1 pm (starting June 4) until Trash n Treasure weekend. Men, we especially need your strength and expertise; please consider donating some time! 3 Money Matters Due to early submission demands, this information about our collections are not yet available. CHARITY MONEY DISTRIBUTION Each month Saint Paul Parishioners religiously provide donations to help the needy in our community. This generosity is far-reaching and helps so very many in need. As always, we like to provide you with an accounting of this money since our fiscal year ends on June 30, and every dollar received is provided to many beneficiaries. A great portion of the collections is given to the Saint Vincent depaul Society who, in turn, provide support for those who need help with utilities, temporary housing, gasoline, food (Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry), and other local/national disasters. Others who benefited from your kindness are: Aquinas Academy, Greensburg Central Catholic, Saint Vincent Seminary (Office of Clergy Vocations), Carbon Volunteer Fire Department, Carmel of the Assumption, Saint Emma s Monastery, Knights of Columbus Council #1480, Magnificat Greensburg, Boy Scout Troop #480, Spirit Life (addiction rehabilitation), Catholic Charities ( Salt and Light dinner and Baby Closet ), Blackburn Center (Domestic Violence), Feeding the Spirit (Otterbein United Methodist Church program), and some individuals recognized as having a personal need. We thank you for your continued support, and your consideration reaches so many in situations which you can t imagine. Thank you for your extraordinary example of generosity! IT S LIKE THE LOAVES & THE FISHES ALL OVER AGAIN!!!! I ll tell ya, I came through the door Fathers Day and my heart sank. The baskets for the Community Shower were empty!!! Were there too many collections? I talked up the fact that our parishioners are generous whether filling a basket with items to donate, or taking care of Military personnel, Parish needs and /or our needy brothers & sisters in the local community. I was afraid I would have to eat crow when it came time to donate the goods. Well, the next week I stood on the veranda for an extra second and then opened the door and a huge smile grew across my face. The basket at the door was full and so were the other two. I knew you could be counted on to help these moms & babies. It is easy to talk about supporting people who choose to fulfill the gift of life; but you all proved that you are more than just pretty words. You helped the stranger in our midst and helped in a very basic way giving others better choices than abortion. Ginny & I packed up 4 boxes with diapers, a ton of wipes, binkies, sleepers, rattles, baby wash & lotions, wash cloths, and other items I just don t remember! Staff from the Early Head Start Program came and picked up all the items and were surprised by all the stuff that was donated. They promised to take and send pictures so you all can see the good work that your generosity supports. You know I will post them as soon as I can. Thank you Parishioners of Saint Paul Parish, one and all!!! TRASH N TREASURE SCHEDULE The Rosary Altar Society of Saint Paul Parish in Greensburg will be holding its annual Trash n Treasure Sale on Friday, July 20 (9am-7pm), Saturday, July 21 (9am-7pm) with ½ off starting this day, and Sunday, July 22 (10am-2pm). A special Early Bird preview will be held on Thursday, July 19, from 6-8 p.m. for a $5 admission. There will be a $5 Bag Sale on Monday, July 23 from 9am-1pm. (Jewelry and Big Items will be ½ off original sticker price). The deadline for dropping off items for this event is Thursday, July 12. For more information, please contact the Church Office at GOLF OUTTING BENEFITTING TWILIGHT WISH On September 15, 2018 the 3rd Annual Twilight Wish Charity Golf Outing will be held at the Manor Valley Golf Course, with registration beginning at 7:00AM. They are looking for both Golfers and Sponsors for the event. Forms to sign up are in the vestibule. But, before we can talk about participation I need to tell you something about Twilight Wish Foundation of Westmoreland County. Their Mission is To honor and enrich the lives of deserving seniors through individual wish granting celebrations that connect generations. They are much like the Make A Wish Foundation that helps make wishes for seriously ill children come true. They help with needs that range from providing adaptive and mobility enhancing equipment; to Hospice patient wishes for reunions of family, friends & coworkers; and many other things. 100% of the money raised goes to granting these wishes. So, if you want to help with this by knocking the golf ball across the field, or sponsoring at some level, please pick up a form in the vestibule or you can contact Jamie Bostard at , or jbostard@exmds.com for more information. WEDDINGS: Planning your wedding is a monumental task. But, before you set the date please contact the Parish Office at You will need to talk to Father Lawrence, and then confirm a date that the Church will be available. Because Marriage is a serious step in life and it is a Sacrament, Marriage Preparation is necessary. Please contact the Parish Office at least 6 months prior to the anticipated time when you want the wedding to occur to allow time for the preparatory meetings. Page 3

OBSTACLES The prophet Ezekiel, Saint Paul, and the Lord Jesus share something in common in today s scripture readings. They all experience obstacles to their ministry. Ezekiel is summoned to prophesy to the Israelites, who are [h]ard of face and obstinate of heart (Ezekiel 2:4). Saint Paul recounts how he has been given a thorn in the flesh (2 Corinthians 12:7). The Lord Jesus is unable to perform many signs in his native place. The Gospel tells us that [he] was amazed at their lack of faith (Mark 6:6). We too sometimes encounter obstacles as we travel along the journey of faith. So often we experience weakness on this journey. Let the words of the Lord to Saint Paul encourage us today: My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. ADULTING, THE PATH TO ADULTHOOD My daughter uses this word a lot, being a college student and on the path to becoming an independent, self reliant person, Dad! We re still Adulting. Adulting is that process of maturing into adulthood. This happens as our students graduate high school and decide on education, trade schools, apprenticeships, or going right into the work force. The path taken also affects your Parish Membership. If you choose the path to the work force, securing a job and starting to pay your own way; you should be thinking about getting your own church envelope and making your own registration with the Parish. But, if you choose the path to college or trade school, your time of Adulting with the Parish will begin once your education is completed, you choose a job in the work force and start paying your own way. Until then it is okay to depend on your registration with your parents, since your independence is still developing. I already hear the resounding, SO WHAT! It doesn t make a difference if they are not getting an envelope from me! Well here is the deal; envelopes are twofold. First, they are a method to track your contribution and to get information back to you when it is Tax Time. It is also a way to know who is in the pews. This second piece will be critical when your best friend wants you to be a Godparent for their new born baby, and you come to the Parish for a sponsorship letter. We want to say yes every time and if you take care of your membership we can say yes. But sadly, I have struggled with families about this very issue, not knowing if the person wanting the letter has been here or not, relying on their parents membership to carry them through at a time when that is no longer appropriate. It is never pretty. One of our previous pastors used to say, even if you cannot afford a gift, turn in your envelope so we have a record that you came. So, as you mature in your relationships among your friends and in the community, please mature in your relationship to the Church. Talk to Jim in the Parish Office to change you parish registration when the time is right. Call or stop in during our normal business hours (Monday Thursday 8:30AM-4:00PM and Friday 8:30AM-3:00PM, breaking daily at 12:00-1:00PM). MAGNIFICAT BREAKFAST The Greensburg Chapter of Magnificat-A Ministry to Catholic Women- is holding a Breakfast at the Ramada Hotel and Convention Center, Rt. 30 East, Greensburg on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. 12:00 Noon. Guest speaker will be Susan Brinkmann, O.C.D.S., Director of Communications and New Age Research for Johnnette Benkovic s Women of Grace.
