They were married in Saint Anthony s on May 4, (St. Anthony was the mission church seed from which our parish grew). Congratulations and wishes for many blessing to Don & Beverly, to their family and to those whom they love. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The Greensburg Area St. Vincent de Paul Society is sponsoring an OUTDOOR food distribution on Monday, May 15, Operation Fresh Express is held in conjunction with the Westmoreland County Food Bank. The event will take place in the parking lot of Church of Jesus Christ World Operations Center, 110 Walton Tea Room Road, Greensburg. (This is off of route 136 on the way to Hempfield High School.) Volunteers are requested to arrive by 3:00 PM and we are normally done by 5:00 PM. We need a minimum of 30 volunteers for this to run smoothly. Please join us. PRAYER CHAIN The Prayer Chain is activated every Tuesday evening. WHAT IS BACCALAUREATE? In addition to the traditional commencement ceremony with its cap and gown and congratulatory handshakes, valedictorian speech (or speeches) and recognition of outstanding achievements, most high schools, colleges and universities also have baccalaureate ceremonies. It has been defined as a religious service to honor the graduating class. Baccalaureate is usually done a few days before the commencement ceremony, and typically is not attended by as many people as attend commencement. Often held in a house of worship, the baccalaureate is a non-denominational spiritual service that allows for public school graduates to find spiritual meaning that aligns with their personal beliefs. By holding the ceremony in a house of worship, schools subtly encourage attendees and graduates to slow down and appreciate the moment. A public school baccalaureate typically features student and faculty speakers, with class advisors given the chance to praise their students for a job well done. Commencement is the main event, but baccalaureate can often be a more substantive and meaningful experience for parents and students alike. With high school and college graduation, a little reflection and pride is an important part of the process. The local baccalaureate service will be held at Word of Life, located on Route 136 near Hempfield High School on May 21. It will begin at 6:00PM and is open to 2017 graduates of all faiths, their family and friends. Pg. 2

If you ve thought about joining Weight Watchers and just can t decide, please call Sue at the parish office for more information. We are open to new members to join the Weight Watchers program here at St Paul on Tuesdays at 6:30PM. Cost is $156 for a twelve week session. FARMER S MARKET VOUCHERS AVAILABLE Once again Farmer s Market Vouchers can be obtained through Area Agency on Aging, for eligible people age 60 or older. A flyer on the program and how to access it is included in your bulletin. St. Paul Youth Ministry Youth (Grades 6-12) High School: 4:30-6:00PM Jr. High: 6:30-8:00PM Summer Break!!! St Paul Youth Ministry is focused on forming our young people through the study and practice of their faith and to challenge them to embrace the life of the church through prayer, service to our community and social activities. DONATIONS FOR TRASH N TREASURE SALE The Rosary Altar Society of Saint Paul Parish in Greensburg will be holding its annual Trash n Treasure Sale on Friday, July 14 (9 a.m.-7 p.m.), Saturday, July 15 (9 a.m.-7 p.m.) with ½ off starting this day, and, July 16 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.). The Early Bird Special this year will be held on Thursday, July 13, from 6-8 p.m. There will also be a Bag Sale on Monday, July 17, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for $4/bag (except for jewelry which will be 25 cents and large items which will be ½ off original price). Donations will be accepted for housewares, toys, furnishings and other usable goods (NO clothing, baby car seats, extra-large exercise equipment, encyclopedias, college textbooks, tires, console televisions, stereos, computer equipment except laptops or flat screens, monitors, cabinet sewing machines, or anything with Freon). Christmas trees will be accepted. These items may be dropped off at the church parish hall, located at 820 Carbon Road between the hours of 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday starting Monday, June 5. Items may also be dropped off on Monday evenings from 6-8 p.m., starting June 5. For more information, please contact the church office at SUMMERTIME SPIRITUAL ENRICHMENT This summer treat yourself to learning more about what it means to be a Catholic. The St. Paul Bible Study Group will offer the acclaimed DVD series, CATHOLICISM, parts of which have been shown on many PBS stations. In it, Bishop Robert Barron travels extensively throughout the globe explaining and exploring the variety and the sameness of our universal church. From the cathedral at Notre Dame in Paris, to small village parishes in the Philippines, watch the love and enthusiasm of Catholics everywhere who are the living fruition of our Lord s call to go out and teach all the nations. Within a one hour presentation, Bishop Barron reveals the practice of our faith in a variety of cities, countries and continents while he unpacks the meaning of the great ideas our faith teaches. Both the photography and the music are stunning. Each video presentation will be followed by discussion; there is no homework nor book fee involved. Diocesan is the amount our Church is assessed for Support of the Diocese and it s charitable works. Parish goal is an amount in addition to the Diocesan Goal for special projects here at church, i.e.. new more durable hymnals. Due to the generosity of the parishioners who are contributing to DLA we have surpassed our Diocesan Goal. Now, any amount collected will come directly back to St. Paul Parish. 4 REFLECTION: THE WAY Today we sense the apostles trepidation as they begin to realize that the Lord would soon be leaving them. In their fear, they ask, Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way? (John 14:5). Jesus tells them that he is the way. The Easter season has been a time of growing in Easter faith so that we, too, may learn to know that Jesus is the way. We can take comfort in the Lord s promise that he is going to his Father s house to prepare a place for us, his chosen people who have been called out of darkness into God s wonderful light. As the paschal candle continues to burn during this holy season, let us remember that in baptism we were given the light of Christ. Support of the CCC helps people across the country experience the Scriptures in a new way, including podcasts and subscriptions. For more information about the CCC funded projects visit BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT MEETING AT SAINT VINCENT PARISH The Bereavement Support Group at Saint Vincent Basilica Parish in Latrobe will meet on Monday, May 15 at 7 p.m.in the Saint Vincent Parish Center Conference Room. Maureen Ceidro, bereavement counselor with Excela Health Home Health and Hospice, will lead the group in "Praying Through Grief Using Guided Imagery." The group meets on the third Monday of every month and anyone dealing with the death of a loved one is invited to attend.
