Christmas trees will be accepted. These items may be dropped off at the church parish hall, located at 820 Carbon Road between the hours of 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday starting Monday, June 5. Items may also be dropped off on Monday evenings from 6-8 p.m., starting June 5. The Early Bird Special this year will be held on Thursday, July 13, from 6-8 p.m. There will also be a Bag Sale on Monday, July 17, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for $4/bag (except for jewelry which will be 25 cents and large items which will be ½ off original price). Guys, you must have noticed an increase in ads in the bulletin regarding vocations, especially to the priesthood. That is because the Church needs more men to step up to the Lord calling them to service. In our local church we can see the effect of fewer men entering the priesthood. Just in our parish alone, we have one priest running 2 parishes and we have fewer weekday and weekend Masses than ever before. This pattern will continue unless there is an increase in Vocations to the priesthood. So if you feel you might be getting called please follow it up. You can choose the discernment event that best suits you. Please see the ads for the Melchizedek Project, St. Andrew Dinner and Jeremiah Days. WEIGHT WATCHERS AT ST. PAUL Let s face it losing weight is not for sissies! If you ve thought about joining Weight Watchers and just can t decide, please call Sue at the parish office for more information. We are open to new members to join the Weight Watchers program here at St. Paul on Tuesdays at 6:30PM. Cost is $156 for a twelve week session. A new session has just begun. We Are Growing!!! In the past 6 months 10 families/individuals have been registered at Saint Paul Parish. As you see new faces please make them feel welcome. 3 Money Matters Offertory Report of 6/11/2017 Envelopes Sent: 867 Envelopes Used: 252 Weekly Budget $8, Weekly Collected $7, Weekly +/- + $ Annual +/- + $16, PETER S PENCE AND SUPPORT OF THE HOLY SEE COLLECTION JUNE The annual collection for Peter s Pence and the Support of the Holy See will be held June Peter s Pence helps fund the charitable works of the Holy Father and provides emergency relief assistance for people suffering from war, oppression and natural disasters. This collection also helps the diocese meet its obligation to contribute to the support of the operational expenses of the Holy See. NEW WINDOWS! THANKS TO SO MANY.. Because of the great success of our Trash n Treasure Sales, Saint Paul Parish has been able to fund projects which may otherwise have been difficult. This past week windows were replaced on the lower level of our school/offices; money for this improvement came from last summer s sale. Eventually we will upgrade the remaining windows once it becomes financially feasible. We thank the Rosary Altar Society, their families, friends, volunteers, and patrons for making this possible! We are currently in the beginning phase of the 2017 Trash n Treasure Sale when items are collected and organized for the sale in July. All of those involved work extremely hard for 7 weeks to make this endeavor a great success. Not only is it a great opportunity for financial rewards, but it also brings a great sense of camaraderie and accomplishment among all those who help. This year s sale will benefit our next project which will be an upgrade to the rest room area in the Social Hall to include a handicapped accessible restroom. Thank you for all of your past support, and we look forward to your participation and presence this summer. Readings & Reflections REFLECTION: TRUST IN JESUS Today s feast celebrates another central mystery of our faith the mystery of the Eucharist. Like the mystery of the Trinity, the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist can never be fully understood, but can only be believed. Just as the Israelites in the desert were invited to put their trust in God s word to them, we are invited to trust wholly in the word of Jesus. In today s Gospel Jesus promises to give us a share in his very own flesh and blood, and a share in eternal life besides. I remember hearing some of our parishioners reflect on memories of having so many people in the mission church that they would have to set up folding chairs in the aisles and hope no one would report them for having too many people in the building. The image seems astounding since it has been many years since we had standing room only and that was at Christmas! In November 1957 Bishop Lamb gave Father Sullivan permission to purchase land for a new Church and School. The property was the 71/2 acre parcel of the old Greensburg Airport and was adjacent to the Greensburg Central Catholic High School. This new church/school became Saint Paul Church and School. The Church part of the construction was completed on June 30, The first Mass was said on July 1 at 7:30PM by Bishop Connare. The School was completed and opened in September of 1960, with the formal dedication and blessing on October 9th of that year. Our Church has been prominently seated here since that time and has weathered many changes, and a few renovations. We remain an active parish weaving together liturgical ministries and community service. This year the parish celebrates 57 years in our hilltop home. In recognition of our patron saint s feast day and our upcoming anniversary, Father Lawrence has added an additional Mass to our schedule. The Mass for the feast day of Saints Peter & Paul, June 29th, will be celebrated at 6:00PM. There will also be the dedication and blessing of the new statue, and a social on the porch once the Mass & dedication are done. Come and join in this celebration! Around the Diocese ST. EDWARD PARISH FLEA MARKET St. Edward Parish will sponsor a Flea Market on Saturday, June 24 from 8:00am - 1:00pm in the church hall. A pre-sale will be held on Friday, June 23 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. (A $5 entry fee will be charged for the pre-sale on Friday only). Donated items will be accepted in the church hall June Information by calling the church office at First Saturday Mass and devotion at Diocesan Heritage Center July 1 The First Saturday Mass and devotion in observance of the centennial anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima continue at the Bishop Connare Center July 1. The day will begin with Mass celebrated by Father Tyler J. Bandura in the St. Joseph Chapel at 9 a.m. and be followed by recitation of the rosary. Saint Peter to Saint Joseph Parish. 11:AM-1:30PM starting at Mount St. Peter Church. June 24-25: Visit the HISTORICAL REENACTMENT AT HANNA S TOWN 10AM-5PM each day. Admission is $7.00 for Adults; Children are $5.00; and children age 5 and under are free. Bone up on your local history and see what an important role Hanna s Town played during the early days of America. June 23-25: RETREAT AT MOUNT ST. MACRINA for men and women from 7 p.m. June 23 to 11 a.m. June 25. The retreat is based on the book, Resisting Happiness by Matthew Kelly. June 29: PILGRIMAGE CATHOLIC SHRINES OF WASHINGTON DC. Seven Dolors Church, Yukon is sponsoring a pilgrimage to three shrines in Washington DC: the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, the Saint John Paul II Shrine, and the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America. Departure will be from the church at 6 AM, returning after 11 PM. Cost is $45. Mass and lunch will be at the Basilica and dinner at a local restaurant. An Evening of Witness and Thanksgiving will begin at 7 p.m. at St. Kilian Catholic Church in Cranberry Township. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the service. Seniors benefit by receiving a $5.00 voucher for use at approved locations, and local farmers benefit by selling more of their fresh produce... win/win. New Middle School Priesthood Discernment Group Jeremiah Days is a new opportunity for middle school aged boys and their parents or guardian to gather to learn, discuss and pray about a vocation to the priesthood.
