CHRISTIAN INITIATION For school age children, teens or adults follows the RCIA process, also called the Catechumenate, for those thinking and joining the Roman Catholic Church by celebrating Baptism, Confirmation and/or first Eucharist: inquiries may be made by calling the Religious Education Office. PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK Call the Rectory to arrange for a minister to bring the Eucharist to someone homebound or in the hospital. In cases with those of the faithful whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age, please contact one of the priests to celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE Engaged couples call the Rectory for an appointment with one of the priests or deacons at least six months in advance of the sacramental celebration. Clothing Pick-Up A St. Vincent de Paul truck will be in front of the church on Sunday morning Nov. 5, 9AM - Noon, to pick up clothes. Please bring the clothes directly to the truck on that Sunday. Please do not leave clothes in the church or bring clothes to the rectory. Thank you. Food Pantry The Food Pantry will distribute food from the rectory basement on Nov. 4 & 18 between 2 and 3 PM. At this time, rice, cans of tuna, and vegetables are needed. Thank you for your ongoing support. Smith-Duffy Memorial Mass On November 4th at 11:00am Smith-Duffy Funeral Home will sponsor a Memorial Mass to remember our deceased loved ones and for all those who have passed away during this year. Light refreshments will follow. All are welcomed to attend.

3 A NOTE FROM FR. LARRY Please pray for the 36 young people from St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Academy and the Holy Name Parish Religious Education program who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation (administered by Bishop James Massa) at this Sunday s 12 PM Mass. Sunday is also Priesthood Sunday/World Priest Day. This is a joint observance that came about through the efforts of two lay organizations: Serra International and Worldwide Marriage Encounter. Of particular note during the Brooklyn Diocese s current Year of Vocations is the work that Serra International (which includes Serra USA) does to promote vocations to the Catholic ministerial priesthood. Please pray for your priests and for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated religious life. All Saints Day: Please attend Mass on All Saints Day, a Holy Day of Obligation. As noted elsewhere in the bulletin, we will be having a Vigil Mass at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, October 31 st, as well as a 9 AM Mass and a 7:30 PM Mass on Wednesday, November 1 st. All Souls Day and Mass of Remembrance: As noted elsewhere in the bulletin, we will have our regularly scheduled 9 AM Mass on All Souls Day, Thursday, November 2d. We will also be having a Mass of Remembrance at 11 AM on Saturday, November 4 th, followed by light refreshments in Shepherds Hall. All Souls envelopes are available in the vestibule of the Church. Please be assured that your departed family and loved ones will be in my prayers during November, the month when the Church remembers the departed in a particular way. Please consider the following commentary on this Sunday s Gospel (Matthew 22:34-40): The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments. The law of love. That s what Jesus came to establish. Think about the Ten Commandments: they can be divided into two types of laws. First come the laws about loving God: have no strange gods; don t take the Lord s name in vain; honor the Sabbath. Then come the laws about loving our neighbor: honor your parents; don t kill; don t commit adultery; don t steal; be honest; and don t covet your neighbor s spouse or property. When we follow the law of love that Jesus preaches today, all of this is taken care of. Ultimately, all the dos and don ts of the law are just specific guidelines describing what love looks like. This is very helpful for those times when love doesn t come so easily to us. But as Jesus instructs us today, the goal is to grow in the kind of love that naturally leads us to want to do what s best. (Liturgical Publications Inc., Connect!, October 26, 2014, p.6.) Parishioners with various skills are needed to do basic cleaning, perform other tasks on a weekly, bi weekly, monthly, quarterly basis and assist in decorating for holidays. 4 PRO-LIFE QUOTE In a radical extension of California s Assisted Suicide Law, a regulation has been enacted giving the institutionalized mentally ill the right to die if they are diagnosed with a terminal condition. The regulation, enacted without public debate or legislative approval, puts the state in the business of directly causing the deaths of mentally ill patients under courtordered custodial care. It goes beyond merely legalizing assisted suicide; it elevates euthanasia access for the institutionalized mentally ill into a court-enforceable right. Wesley Smith in NRL News Today, 11/14/16.
