PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK Call the Rectory to arrange for a minister to bring the Eucharist to someone homebound or in the hospital. In cases with those of the faithful whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age, please contact one of the priests to celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE Engaged couples call the Rectory for an appointment with one of the priests or deacons at least six months in advance of the sacramental celebration. By remembering our loved ones in this way, we express not only our own devotion, but we also continue to express their devotion. This is a wonderful way to remember our loved ones by giving a gift that will help all of us in lifting our prayers to the Lord. Through your generosity, the Christmas Flowers and Decorations are paid for with your donations and, if anything remains, it is used to offset the cost to decorate, refurbish and furnish our church throughout the year. Please submit the names of those you want to memorialize to the parish secretary or leave your envelope and donation in the collection basket. The usual donation is $15 for each name you want to memorialize. All names must be submitted no later than Monday, December 19th to be printed in the bulletin.

3 Family New Year Party A Note from Fr. Larry Two special thanks to the Holy Name Hispanic Community. Last week they made a Christmas donation to the parish for which we are most grateful. Last Saturday, December 10th they coordinated our wonderful annual parish observance of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The day began with the 5 AM Mananitas Rosary, prayer and Marian Hymn Service, and continued with breakfast, a procession through Windsor Terrace with the statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the 2 PM Mass celebrated by Monsignor Joseph Grimaldi, Episcopal Vicar of Brooklyn (assisted by Deacon Julio Barraneche, the head of the Brooklyn Diocese s Office of Clergy Personnel and our own Deacon Abel Torres); and concluded with a fiesta of dance, music and food in Shepherds Hall. Congratulations (and thanks again) to the Guadalupe Committee, its chairperson Rogelio Bravo, and all of the other volunteers for the success of their hard work. I also want to recognize and thank our Director of Music Ivonne Rojas, our parish adult choir, our guest musicians and singers, and the lectors for the beautiful Lessons and Carols liturgy they gave us on Sunday afternoon. The Old and New Testament Scripture Readings and the prayers were great, but the heart of the service was (as it should be) the music. Ivonne and the choir members worked very hard to prepare and the success of their efforts was obvious in the quality of the hymns of the season they sang so well. One final group to thank are the members of the Buildings Committee and other volunteers who put up the Christmas garlands on the canopies over the front doors of the Church last Sunday. There were Pynns and Sistos and Walls and Cottinghams (and probably others) involved. I can t name them all but I certainly thank them all for that great service to the parish. When we begin speaking and writing about Christmas decorations we can all too easily forget that Advent isn't over yet. Thus far many of us may not have done as well as we had hoped we would in "preparing the way for the Lord". Well, there is still the opportunity. Please try to use a part of this Fourth and last week of Advent for some extra prayer (especially quiet prayer) and reflection. Please try to get to Confession. Remember that Monday, December 19th, is Reconciliation Monday with Confessions being heard from 4 PM to 8 PM in every Church (including Holy Name) in the Archdiocese of New York, the Diocese of Brooklyn, and the Diocese of Rockville Center. St. Joseph features prominently in this Sunday's gospel as a man of faithful obedience to the will of God. Perhaps we want to pray for his intercession to help us make the strongest possible spiritual finish to this Advent. All are invited to a New Year s Eve party being held in the School Basement from 8PM to 1AM. Tickets are $55.00 for adults and $15 for children/free with each paid adult ticket. This includes a Hot Buffet, Dessert, Beer, Wine, Soda and a Champagne Toast. There will be a DJ Music, Games, Indoor Basketball.
