2 June 18, 2017 The Most Holy Body And Blood Of Jesus Christ This weekend s second collection will be for the Diocesan/National and world-wide collection for Peter s Pence. The Peter s Pence collection provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to help victims of war, oppression, and disasters around the world throughout the year. The envelopes for this weekend s second collection are marked Parish Building Repairs and Father s Day, but everything received in this weekend s second collection will be forwarded to the Diocese to be used for Peter s Pence. This will be both a Sunday Mass and a Mass of Thanksgiving and Farewell, followed by a reception in Shepherd s Hall. We hope that as many of you as possible can join us to thank Msgr. Atlantic City Trip The Seniors are planning a trip to Atlantic City to Resorts on Monday, June 26th. The cost of the trip is $ If you are interested in going, please call Mary Corrigan at Food Pantry The Food Pantry will distribute food on July 1, 15, & 29 between 2 and 3 pm out of the rectory basement. At this time tuna, soup, and cereal are needed. We give a special thank you to the teachers, parents, and students from K280 and PS 51 who visited the Food Pantry on the morning of June 2 and brought us many donations.

3 A NOTE FROM FR. LARRY Recio. Congratulations to them and to the parents and other adults who made their participation possible. The young people of our parish have been involved in some very varied activities during the past few weeks that deserve recognition. I ll be including several names, and I apologize in advance for names I should have included but have left out. All of the above mentions of young people and parents fit right in line with the fact that this Sunday will be Father s Day. It will also be the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. We ll have a special Father s Day blessing at each of the Masses and a Corpus Christi procession at the end of the 10:30 AM Mass. I ll begin with our Scout troops. On the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (May 24th), Holy Name Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts (and of course parents and Scout leaders under the overall coordination of Anthony Caccamo) placed more than a thousand American flags on the graves of Veterans in Green-Wood Cemetery. At the 7:30 AM Mass on Sunday June 4th Holy Name Cubs Scouts Christian Arroyo, Liam McCarthy, Kevin Molina, Gregory Seminara and Michael Sheehan (all members of Holy Name Cub Scout Pack 237) received their Parvuli Dei (Children of God) Awards. These are Awards earned by Catholic Cub Scouts who complete a set of requirements relating to their knowledge and practice of their Catholic faith. On Thursday, June 8, members of Holy Name Boy Scout Troop 237 assisted (as they have for many years) with the barbeque held In Shepherds Hall after the Holy Name Golf outing. There were too many Scouts there to list here by name, but by way of expressing my appreciation to all of them I will mention and thank Scout Leaders Anthony and Colin Pinnavaia with a special word of thanks to Scout Leader Marty Maher for his decades of involvement with this important initiative. On Friday and (the hot) Saturday, June 8th and 9th as a project for earning their Bronze Awards, members of Holy Name Junior Girl Scout Troop 2359 did some very labor-intensive clearing, cleaning and re-planting of the greenspace near the flagpole and St. Joseph the Worker Academy sign on Prospect Park West. The Girl Scouts working for their Bronze Awards were Lilah Ramoutor, Francesca Richards, and Samyia Williams. Other Girls Scouts who helped were Meagan Richards, Julia Ramoutor, Nissa Figueroa, and Georgia Edwards; and parents and Scout Leaders heavily involved included Vivian Torres-Figueroa, Suzanne Ramoutor, and Maryellen Keogh. And I can t close without thanking all who participated in and (especially) to all who worked so hard on the June 8th Golf Outing and Barbeque. It was a great day and evening and a big financial help to the parish. Scouting has a long and rich history in Holy Name of Jesus Parish. During the school year, our Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts meet on Thursday evenings and our Cub Scouts meet on Friday evenings. New members are always welcome. And again many, many thanks to the volunteer leaders and parents for the time and effort they put in to making Scouting available in our parish. On a different note (excuse the pun), on June 3rd and 4, many young people from Holy Name parish and/or St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Academy (SJWCA) appeared in the Park Slope Youth Theatre Company s production (in Shepherds Hall) of the Broadway musical GREASE. The entire cast was great, but the young people I recognized (and again apologies if I ve missed someone) from our parish and/or SJWCA included Emily Andrade, Emily and Lauren Caccamo, Kiera and Mathew Galligan, Siobhan O Hea, and Elisabella th Father s Day Remembrance: We remember the following grandfathers, fathers, uncles and those men who have been significant in our lives, both living and deceased: Timothy Horan Michael F. 4 Registration for Religious Education Classes Registration for the Religious Education Program has begun. If your child is in grades 1-8 and they are attending a public or a non-catholic private school they should be attending religious education classes to help them grow in their faith and to prepare them to receive their sacraments. For our departed loved ones. We ask your prayers for those of our community who have gone before us into the fullness of life and also for those they have left behind, especially Eileen Keegan and Gerard Hammond. Holy Name s Catechism program has as long and as deep a history as our parish itself. Our goal is to create an environment of classroom learning and faith experiences that educates our school age children about Jesus and the Catholic faith. Important to that mission is preparing our children to receive the sacraments of Penance, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Our program tenets are Faith, Fun and Fellowship. We are blessed with wonderful Catechists, Parish Clergy and lay staff who are dedicated to our children s development as faithful Catholics. Please remember those enrolled in our Purgatorial Society on Sundays at 7:30am, especially Vito Seminara, Estela Morales, Eileen Keegan, and Edward Stines. Registration forms are available in the back of Church, on the Holy Name website or by contacting Kathryn Sisto, Coordinator of Religious Education at hnjreligioused@gmail.com or Registration forms along with a copy of your child s birth and baptismal certificates should be dropped off with Kathryn Sisto as soon as they are filled out.
