Malesic in Response to the 40th Statewide Investigating Grand Jury Report At our weekend masses, a homily by Bishop Edward C. Malesic was heard in response to the report issued by the 40th Statewide Investigating Grand Jury. If you did not hear Bishop Malesic s homily, I encourage you to visit our Diocesan website where it is posted along with a written transcript of this important message. The link to the Homily on the Diocesan website is: Malesic-Homily-in-response-to-the-Grand-Jury- Report.aspx I ask that you join with me in praying that the God of love and mercy will bring comfort and healing to the victims and survivors of sexual abuse within the Church, and that all those who have been abused may experience God s profound love for them, as well as God s healing grace through His Son Jesus Christ, and the ministry of the Church. THIS EUCHARISTIC FEAST When we celebrate a holiday, we have a meal; when we celebrate a significant event, we have a feast. In today s first reading, Lady Wisdom is setting a feast, a sign of celebrating the covenant that Israel has with God. Israel s central remembrance of its saving Exodus covenant is the Passover meal. So it is natural and not coincidental that the Christian celebration of the new covenant sealed by the blood of Christ on the cross happens at a meal, our Eucharist, offered first by Jesus in the context of Passover remembrance. It is easy for us, sometimes, to forget the very long and rich religious and human origins of our eucharistic feasting on the bread and cup that are the Body and Blood of Jesus. Today, and for the next few Sundays that we hear the Bread of Life discourse from Saint John, let us bring to mind the loving covenant that God makes with us, and be filled with great joy at this marvelous feast that we have come to attend! Lord, come and fill me with your love.

We will then pray together for a successful Spirit filled year. Parent participation for this special evening is requested. Elementary Our program for Grade K Grade 5 will meet weekly on Wednesdays in the Education Center beginning Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Youth Ministry Our students Grade 6-12 will meet twice a month, every other week on Wednesdays in the Education Center beginning on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. 7:30 p.m. RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults This is the process by which those interested in becoming a Catholic or interested in exploring that possibility discern and prepare to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church. Our program will start in the fall but this is a great time to meet and get more information. The Catholic University is unique among the Catholic institutions of higher education as the national university for the Catholic Church in the United States, and the only higher education institution founded by the American Bishops and chartered by the Vatican. Its mission is to prepare future leaders for the Church and the nation who are formed in the Catholic tradition that faith and the intellectual life enhance each other. In the Diocese of Greensburg this collection is combined with a collection for the Catholic schools in the Diocese. This year fifty percent of this collection will go to support The Catholic University and fifty percent will be used to aid the Catholic schools here in our own Diocese. Like The Catholic University, our Catholic schools are an asset of the community that prepare future leaders for the Church and the nation. Please prayerfully consider donating to this worthy cause.

4 SAINT JAMES NEWS ~ Thank You ~ We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Monsignor, Bill, the Saint James Choir and to all those who participated in the beautiful Memorial Mass for our son and brother, Tom Nalevanko, Jr. We are so grateful to our Saint James family for their prayers, cards, and their kind expressions of sympathy shown to us during this very difficult time. A profit of $4, was made and these funds will be used to support pro-life programs, education in Human Trafficking and additional charitable causes throughout the Diocese. DCCW Meeting and Mass Please note there will be a Mass on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. This special Mass is part of the gathering of our DCCW for their Book Review and meeting hosted by our parish. Job Posting Multimedia Content Manager Office of Communications and Evangelization The Multimedia Content Manager is the daily producer of the Diocese of Greensburg s content development team. The Multimedia Content Manager writes and edits news and feature articles and assigns stories to on-staff writers and freelance writers and photographers. The Multimedia Content Manager in conjunction with Office of Communications and Evangelization leadership team monitors story development progress and helps staff solve problems. This person helps maintain an editorial calendar that ensures coverage of strategically important topics and events. The Multimedia Content Manager is responsible for helping to update the Diocesan news presence and assembling all external communications, including Diocesan publications. Resume, writing sample and portfolio should be sent to jzufelt@dioceseofgreensburg.org no later than August 31, Required: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Graphic Design, Advertising, Communications, Journalism or related field.
