1 Coat of Arms of The Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic, J.C.L. Bishop of Greensburg Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord Alleluia! Christ is risen from the dead! We have walked the way of Christ, to his suffering and death on the cross; we now hear in the echoing tomb a never-ending Alleluia! This is the day you have made for us, O Lord, to praise you and thank you, to bless you and glorify you for raising Christ from the dead. This is the day you raise us from the dead, born anew in the waters of baptism, risen with Christ to life eternal, now and forever. Amen. 2 Acts of the Apostles 10:34a, Peter proclaims the gospel in the house of Cornelius. Psalm 118:1-2, 16-17, This is the day the Lord has made, wonderful in our eyes. Colossians 3:1-4 We are urged to keep our sights on the eternal and not on the temporal. John 20:1-9 The disciples are in a contest for Easter understanding. The Paschal Candle is a symbol of the risen Christ in our midst. It is a primary Easter symbol throughout the fifty days of this Holy season. After the feast of Pentecost, it is used at the celebration of all baptisms and funerals. Our sincere thanks to Frances Cunningham who so generously purchased this year s Paschal candle in memory of her beloved husband, Robert E. Cunningham The Paschal Candle is a reminder that Christ is our Light from birth until death, until we will see God face to face and are touched by his light and love for all eternity. Keeping in our prayers and trusting that God will bring to their families comfort in the days ahead, we commend to your prayer the souls of: Ann M. Bolha and Robert F. Kulik Know that the Lord has welcomed our loved ones into the home of Heaven. Our parish community extends its deepest sympathies to their families and relatives on their loss. A very special thank you to everyone who gave of their time and talent toward the decorating of our worship spaces, the beautiful music and dedicated services during Holy Week and Easter. Your willingness to be a part of the parish and your dedication is always greatly appreciated. God Bless! Those who can, do. who can do more, volunteer. ~ Author Unknown Saturday, March 31, 2018 Holy Saturday 12:00 NN Blessing of Baskets 8:30 PM Easter Vigil Bishop Edward C. 3 From the Rector s Desk Today we celebrate Easter Sunday, the pivotal Feast of the entire Church year. It is our opportunity to give a renewed perspective to the whole of our life. Often as we find ourselves confronted by death, sickness and inequity of every kind we find ourselves saying, It s just not fair. We wonder how good people seem so often to end up in worse shape than the bad. We might even wonder what we or others we love have done wrong so as to deserve this kind of treatment from God in this life. Often we cannot make sense of it. Easter is the feast which asks us to see our life from a different perspective. It is first and foremost about trust in the promises of God. It is the feast which reveals to us that there is actually more to life than meets the eye. Jesus believed with his whole being that his Father would take care of him. His trust in the care that his Father gave him is often so different than our understanding of God s care. If we are honest we often define proof of the Father s care for us as a world where nothing bad will ever happen to us or our friends and everyone will be happy and safe without any difficulty or fear and then die peacefully in their sleep at age 110. That is just not the case. Jesus suffered and died to show us that even death cannot take away our spirit and life. Jesus resurrection is evidence for all believers that there is something beyond the veil of death. All is not made whole in this life and ultimately, something better than we ever imagined will happen to us when our time here is over. The Feast of Easter shouts out to us that it is eternal life which awaits us. Beyond death, there is no more sadness, no more pain, and no more fear. As we celebrate this feast let us find that promise of joy in the midst of everything we are confronted with in the world. I would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make this Lent and Easter so beautiful and meaningful. This list is long and includes Bishop Malesic, Fr. Matthew, Deacon Bill, Fr. Bandura, our parish staff, the ministers, choir, ushers, servers and everyone who decorated and who attended our services to share her or his faith with the Body of Christ gathered together. We truly have had a blessed season of prayer and praise. Happy Easter! Msgr. Ray Blessed Sacrament Cathedral invites Children to Shipwrecked VBS: Rescued by Jesus. A summer kids event called Shipwrecked VBS will be hosted at BSC from July 7 to July 13. At Shipwrecked, kids discover that Jesus rescues them! Kids participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, make and devour yummy treats, experience one-of-a-kind Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies to remind them of God s love, and test out Sciency-Fun Gizmos they ll take home and play with all summer long. Plus, kids will learn to look for evidence of God all around them through something called God Sightings. Each day concludes with the Sail Away Sendoff that gets everyone involved in living what they ve learned. Shipwrecked is for kids from Kindergarten to grade 5 and will run from 9 AM to 12 Noon. For information or to volunteer please call Tammi Rzempoluch in the parish office at ext. 35 Are you ready to explore ways to use your talents to serve God and His people? The first group meeting will be on Monday, April 9 in the Social Hall from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The first step will be to form a group to knit and crochet for charity. We would love to teach you to knit or crochet easy items, such as scarves, prayer shawls, hats and afghans, and welcome the help and companionship of those who already have this talent. Please call or text Vera Hisker at or June Hoehler at if you have any questions or are interested in joining us. We look forward to seeing you on April 9 as we use our time and talents to serve God!
