2 TRIUMPH OF THE CROSS PARISH COMMUNITY NEWS SATURDAY EVENING MASS AT TOTC: In selecting 5:00 p.m. as the time for the Saturday evening Mass (Vigil of Sunday), we had hoped that this time would prove helpful to the majority of those who attended the Masses previously celebrated at 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. However, it has become clear that Mass at 5:00 p.m. is not a good time for most of you. Furthermore, when we begin to encounter winter weather and darkness falls even earlier, Mass at 5:00 p.m. might be even more difficult for many people. Therefore, beginning with the First Sunday of Advent on Saturday, November 28th (the weekend after Thanksgiving), the Saturday evening Mass will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. We apologize for yet another change in the schedule, but again, it has become clear that the majority of our parishioner will benefit from this change. Thank you again for understanding and for your patience. OPENING OF THE DIOCESAN HOLY DOOR FOR THE COMING HOLY YEAR OF MERCY: On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8 th, Pope Francis will open the Holy Door at St. Peters in the Vatican for the Holy Year of Mercy. In the following weeks the holy doors of other Papal Basilicas will be opened. The Pope is encouraging bishops to open a Door of Mercy at the diocesan cathedral. Msgr. M. Campbell has announced that he will open the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption Holy Doors for the Jubilee Year on December 13 th, in Marietta, OH. They will remain open for the entire Holy Year so that pilgrims may enter and gain a Plenary Indulgence. A pilgrimage is a journey to a sacred place undertaken as an act of devotion. It is a way to gain many graces that Jesus wishes to bestow on those who love him. A plenary indulgence can remove all the temporal punishment due to forgiven sin. One condition for the indulgence is that all attachment to sin, even venial sin, be absent. There are three other conditions necessary for the indulgence: sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Pope. DECK THE HALL WITH BOUGHS OF...actually that s already done! Scaffidi s will Deck the Hall and cook the dinner! The TOTC Catholic Women s Club will hold our annual Christmas Party on Tuesday, December 1st at 6 p.m. at Scaffidi s Restaurant and the cost is $20. All women in our parish are encouraged to come for food, fun and fellowship. Entertainment provided by singer/ impersonator, Dave Watkins. Sign up sheets are located in the back of the church. Reservation deadline is Tuesday, November 24th. ADVENT CANDLES AND WREATHS: The St. Thomas Aquinas Debate Team will be selling these once again. They will be available at all Masses this weekend November 21/22. The prices remain the same as last year: $10 set of candles. PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS: Thank you for your prayers during the election process. The following will be serving as council members for the next four years: Carolyn Grant, Matthew Leonard, Kathy Marotta, Nancy Schreck and Patty Teramana. The remaining council members are: Chuck Macpherson, Dave Mosti, Eileen Petrola and Patsy Skiviat. Thanks to the other candidates who were willing to serve if elected. Continue to pray for the Pastoral Council; for wisdom and guidance. HAVE A HAPPY AND BLESSED THANKSGIVING COMING HOLY YEAR OF MERCY: Pope Francis said, We will entrust the life of the Church, all humanity, and the entire cosmos to the Lordship of Christ, asking him to pour out his mercy upon us like the morning dew, so that everyone may work together to build a brighter future. He wants mercy to reach everyone as a sign that the Kingdom of God is already in our midst. Patient and merciful often go together in the Old Testament to describe God s nature. We can see this in God s actions throughout salvation history. God acts in our everyday lives, whether we are aware of it or not, with the deep, merciful love of a father for his child. It is a very personal love constantly given regardless of how we live our lives. Jesus Christ has revealed this abiding love of the Father for us, sealed with Jesus passion and death. 2

CONDOLENCES (CCC 1405) There is no surer pledge or clearer sign of this great hope in the new heavens and new earth in which righteousness dwells, than the Eucharist. Every time this mystery is celebrated, the work of our redemption is carried on and we break the one bread that provides the medicine of immortality, the antidote for death, and the food that makes us live forever in Jesus Christ. With this great hope we pray for our brother who has died: John J. Tegano, 73, November 9 May he enjoy the eternal banquet the Lord has prepared for him.
