2 TRIUMPH OF THE CROSS PARISH COMMUNITY NEWS MORNING PRAYER: During the weeks of August 4 16, there will be no gathering at 6:40 a.m. for morning prayer. Please mark this change on your calendar. You are most welcome to pray the prayer individually. NEW SERVER TRAINING SESSION: We are scheduling a training session for those who are in 4 th grade or older to be altar servers. This will take place on August 30 at 1:00 p.m. in Holy Rosary Church. Hopefully this time will be suitable on most schedules as school will have started and there is no Steeler game this afternoon. Please mark your calendars to avoid schedule conflicts. Parents, please encourage and support your children in serving at the Lord s altar. Yes, it involves you making a commitment to honor a schedule. It is also a way in which you can support the life of your parish community. Thanks. BUILDING REPAIR FUND: To those who have been making a regular contribution to the Triumph of the Cross Building Repair Fund, THANK YOU. As you know, the concrete work that was completed in front of Holy Rosary Church was paid for through this fund. I believe everyone has been pleased with this work. This summer we used funds from this account to pay for the two new air conditioning units at Holy Rosary Church. The two units responsible for keeping the main body of the church cool had died and needed to be replaced. With all four units now working in the church, they are able to maintain a temperature in the comfortable zone - approximately 72 degrees. Yes cold for some and hot for others. God didn t build all of us with the same thermostat to maintain body temperature. Funds from this account are being used to pay for the Marian Shrine that is being erected at the entrance area of the church. This replaces the flower bed that crumbled during the concrete replacement process. We are using the same statue of Mary that was located in that area. I have also contracted with a parishioner to provide for us building measurements and structural evaluations to put together a packet for contractors to bid on fascia, guttering, window repair, and painting of the exterior of Holy Rosary Church, Marian Room, and Parish Office. The Parish Office roof needs to be replaced. Part of it is now covered by a tarp. Funds from this account will be needed to make these repairs. Once we have this information, I will provide for you a cost estimate and the amount of funds on hand. DONUT SUNDAY: Our next Donut Sunday will be held in the Holy Rosary Auditorium on August 16th following the 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30 AM Masses. Please join our parish family in mingling with old friends and making new ones. 2 TOTC FALL CARD PARTY The Catholic Women s Club from Triumph of the Cross Parish will be hosting its annual FALL Card Party on Sunday, September 20th in the Holy Rosary Auditorium. The proceeds from the Card Party address many needs. A portion of the proceeds are utilized to support parish activities while other dollars support local community outreaches such as the Christmas Giving Tree. Additional monies are donated to international causes such as supporting our sister parish in Cusco, for the Madonna Plan and other projects that improve the health of expectant mothers and their children and combat human trafficking. Additional information and raffle tickets are available in the Church foyer. Thank you for supporting our efforts! Your Triumph of the Cross Parish CWC GIRLS 7-16 YEAR OLD are invited to participate in the monthly prayer meetings run by the Daughters of Holy Mary of the Heart of Jesus. Our Religious Institute s prayer movement, DOYMAR, is subdivided into three groups, Eucharistic Girls, Traveling Teens and Pilgrim Ladies. The first meeting of the school year will take place on Saturday, August 22 at 700 Lovers Lane, at 11:00 a.m. for Eucharistic Girls and at 10:30 a.m. for Travelling Teens. These open meetings are part of the faith formation Sisters offer to girls during childhood, adolescent and young adult years. The DOYMAR prayer movement was founded in 1984 in Spain by our Foundress Mother María de Jesus Velarde. She has established it in eight countries including, in 2011, the United States. In 2012 DOYMAR was approved as a Public Association of Faithful. GO AND SEE POPE FRANCIS: St. Agnes Church in Mingo Junction is sponsoring a bus trip to see the Pope in Philadelphia for the Festival of Families, September We will have two opportunities to see the Pope, including Holy Mass on Sun., September 28. The trip will include the musical, Joseph in Lancaster s Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, PA. We have seats available for this historic four-day, three-night trip. PILGRIMAGE: Join Sr. Isabel Bettwy on a spiritual journey to Medjugorje September 8-16, Medjugorje is the site in Bosnia-Herzegovina where, for the past 34 years, visionaries have been reporting visitations of Our Lady. While at this moment the Church has not made a declaration about the apparitions, pilgrimages to the oasis of peace are permitted. Sr. Isabel has been taking pilgrims to Medjugorje since Round-trip airfare from Pittsburgh is $2,794 and is all inclusive.
