2 TRIUMPH OF THE CROSS PARISH COMMUNITY NEWS FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM: Bishop Monforton will celebrate the closing Mass for the Fortnight for Freedom on Saturday, July 4th at 9:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Wintersville, OH. We are making a special effort this year to invite parishioners from different parishes to join our Bishop in praying for religious freedom in the United States. Freedom of Religion has been a long established liberty which we have all enjoyed. Let us come together to pray that our religious liberty continue for us and for those who come after us. PARISH SOFTBALL: Support the TOTC parish softball team by coming out to cheer us at our games! We play at Belleview Park. This week we are playing a doubleheader on Tuesday, June 23rd at 7:00 and 8:00p.m. at Field 2 and on Friday, June 26th we play at 7:00 p.m. on Field 2. - Religious liberty is an inherent right of the human person, a fundament aspect of our human dignity. Individuals and social institutions (including government entities) have a duty to respect the religious freedom of other individuals and institutions. Sadly, this fundamental right, guaranteed by the US Constitution, is under attack. (See Current Threats to Religious Liberty on the US Bishops website.) In response to these attacks on religious freedom, the Bishops of the United States have called on all Catholics and citizens to join efforts to defend this fundamental right. Special Events - Fortnight for Freedom: June 21 to July 4, 2015 The Fortnight for Freedom: Freedom to Serve will take place from June 21 to July 4, 2015, a time when our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. The theme of this year's Fortnight will focus on the "freedom to bear witness" to the truth of the Gospel. Fortnight for Freedom activities in the Diocese of Steubenville include the following: Jun 21 Jul 4 Masses offered in parishes for the protection of religious freedom in the United States and around the world. Closing Mass for the Fortnight for Freedom offered by Bishop Monforton at 9:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church in Wintersville. TOTC PARISH PICNIC: DIOCESE OF STEUBENVILLE Vocations links: dsvocations Facebook: It s that time again for the TOTC Parish picnic. It will be held at Jim Woods Park on Sunday, July 12th from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. This year we will have activities from KURT JAMES Fun and Games. There will be a mega obstacle course and a mini-basketball activity. There should be a lot of fun for both adults and children. Feel free to bring lawn chairs to the park. If you are planning on attending please sign your name on the sheet at the entrance of the church or by the side door. We need to have an approximate count so we can purchase hot dogs and hamburgers. The picnic committee is asking for food items that can be brought to the park by 1:00 p.m. Please bring enough food for twelve (12) people. If your name begins with: A-D Baked beans, Potato or Macaroni Salad E-K L-Q R-Z Vegetables or Salads Fruit Salads Desserts If you are willing to help set up before the picnic or clean up afterwards, please call the parish office and leave your name and phone number. HOLY MATRIMONY BAPTISM BAPTISM PREPARATION PROGRAM: Dear Parents, as you know, in our parish it is the expectation that the parents would attend a baptismal preparation session before the baptism of their first child in our parish. It is our hope that after the first experience you might desire to return to the session prior to the baptism of each child. You are welcome to participate in a baptismal session during the pregnancy or after the birth.
