The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered. LENTEN REFLECTIONS ON DIVINE MERCY 2014 As we earnestly seek to cooperate with God s grace and grow in holiness, God the Holy Spirit provides with gifts to sustain our Christian life. These are permanent dispositions which help us to follow the promptings and inspirations of the Holy Spirit. The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord. God the Holy Spirit also forms in us perfections as the first fruits of eternal glory. They are charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity. (see Gal 5: 22 and CCC ) All of these are characteristics of a person filled with the holiness of God in Jesus Christ. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Holy Name Cathedral will celebrate the Sunday of Divine Mercy on Sunday, April 27, from 2pm to 4pm. During this time of Eucharistic adoration, prayer, and readings from the Diary of St. Faustina, priests will be available to hear confessions. Deacon Randy Redington will present a talk entitled "Divine Mercy and the Lives of Three Saints," and at 3 p.m., the Franciscan sisters will lead the chanting of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. There is a plenary indulgence attached to this devotion. Also, the faithful will have the opportunity to receive the "Great Blessing" and to reverence a first class relic of St. Faustina. This year's celebration is extra special as it comes on the very day that John Paul II, who established the Feast of Divine Mercy, will be canonized as a saint. 2

3 BISHOP MUSSIO SCHOOLS 2014 ANNUAL RAFFLE: Our annual raffle has kicked off! Please consider purchasing a $20 ticket; raffle proceeds will help fund our operating budget. GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION: Christians around the world are united in a special way during Lent, Holy Week and Easter. Our hearts, minds and prayers are also especially aware of the Holy Land. Our parish, once a year on Good Friday, is called on to support Christians in the Holy Land. Many Christians in the Holy Land depend on the collection for their lives. As a pontifical collection requested by Pope Francis, the annual Good Friday Collection offers a direct link for parishioners to be witnesses of peace and to help protect the Holy Places. When you donate on Good Friday, you are supporting Christians in the Holy Land. Franciscans and others in the Holy Land are housing and feeding the poor, providing religious formation and education, maintaining shrines and parishes, and conducting pastoral ministry. For more information, visit The Good Friday Collection is requested by the Holy Father. Please be as generous as your abundance allows.
